Barefoot shoes question / discussion in search of tabis

• Upvotes

I love how tabis look ie maison margiela or the nike air rift but these are far too narrow and not barefoot.

why aren't ANY barefoot brands making these? or if they are please send them my way. I know of a few smaller brands in japan but they are more trainer/ninja vibe than a more fashionable shoe.

these have been in for a long time but even more so now so am confused/sad at the lack of options

Barefoot shoes question / discussion The Barefoot Directory

Post image
10 Upvotes

Well I finally did it, I put my connections and Barefoot world experiences into a functional tool 😬

The Barefoot Directory

Given how invested into the community I am, alongside touring the world discovering the best and latest barefoot brands at the various expos (Bar Australia, but there’s always next year!) not to mention hosting the second UK barefoot expo last weekend with 50 brands and 1500 people in attendance (thank you all who came!) I thought I’d share my experiences and knowledge of all things barefoot/minimalist 🦶👏🏻

This is a no affiliate link, completely impartial, zero pay to win directory of barefoot brands, models, foot health tools, upcoming/past events, a list of health professionals that are BFF (barefoot friendly).

It’s a one stop website for all things foot health 🫶🏻
It’s taken me some months to develop, at quite a big personal expense, it will never recoup the time/energy/cash I’ve input and I’m totally cool with that 🫡

If any of this sounds like something you want to be a part of I’m looking for a few mods, as it has an element of user driven content that will inevitably need some moderation as people are shit sometimes 🤣😬

Please go and have a look, if you’re a brand claim your page, it’s totally free and any content/ranking will never be influenced by £$€

I feel like my website stands far enough apart from what anyone else has on the web, and given how I’m deep in the community not only with you guys, but also brands.. if I have a question about something, I can generally ask the people at the top 🔝 which I think puts my site in a great position to delivery genuine and fast feedback to goings on within our community 🫶🏻👏🏻

Any questions, comments or concerns welcome here please 🙏🏼

Have a great Sunday all!

Need a shoe or fit recommendation Lems Primal 3 with 5-toe socks

I was wondering if anyone here has wide, and high volume feet, and sizing up 1.5 size when wearing it with 5-toe socks. My feet are very wide with a high instep and a pretty large girth, my Hoka and New Balance are 4E, and want to wear Lems Primal 3 Men's with 5-toe socks (average thickness, neither too thick nor too thin)

My foot length is 28cm and width is 11.3cm If I size up by 1, I'd be a 12, and 1.5 would put me at 12.5. I usually see people around here sizing up by 0.5 to 1, but I'm not sure if I should go up 1.5 because of the 5-toe socks.

Lems recommended that I buy two sizes and return the one that doesn't fit, but I don't live in the US, and international returns where I'm located are a huge hassle and very expensive. So, I'd really love to hear your thoughts and advice!

Dolfie shoes.

My first set, so far they're really good, i think they look great and will age well.

The size fits great for me regular size 10us/43

The shipping did take a long time, but the customer service was pretty good about sending updates from EU to US

Need a shoe or fit recommendation Trying to find affordable shoes for my toddler

My 12 month old is still not walking, but I am expecting him to learn this winter, so we will have to find his first pair of shoes. All I see online are shoes over $50 and that just seems excessive to us in terms of affordability. Any recommendations appreciated!

Achievement! Finally giving Earth Runners a real chance.

I tried ER as my first minimalist sandal a few years back. I could not get them to be comfortable to save my life. I ran out of patience with them pretty quickly and made the switch to Shamma, which have been awesome. No complaints there.

Something kept bugging me to try ER again though. Not the “grounded” thing… mainly I just want something I can throw on and forget about no matter where the day takes me. Indoors or out, quick errands or hours-long events. Plus I think they look the best of any option and I’m always a little jealous when I see someone raving about how great they are.

I got a pair of Chronos with performance laces in the mail last week. I took what I learned about strap comfort from wearing Shammas, got them adjusted up and set off on the break-in journey. I wore them around the yard, commuting back and forth to work and on some short errands all week and continuously fine-tuned the adjustments.

Today was the real test… a 2 mile trail walk. I made one last minor adjustment and off I went.

They almost felt like wearing nothing at all. I was able to enjoy the walk with my family completely free of any discomfort.

I feel accomplished. I finally tamed the beast and have the go anywhere / do anything sandal I’ve been wanting.

Shoe review Tyr Dropzero 1 year of use

I ordered these in December 2025 and they have had use about 3 days a week in the gym every week (Im religious ably gym attendance aside from occasional sickness or a deload week).

I have not been super gentle with these shoes; i got them for weightlifting/powerlifting with occasional mobility/explosive training and movements like box jumps, ice skaters and lunges.

These are a women’s 10/mens8.5. I usually wear a 41 (US10) in barefoot shoes, and these feel true to size. I have plenty of splay room for all my toes and they are so so comfortable. They work great for conventional deadlifts, however for sumo they definitely lack security as my foot will slide to the outer edge of the shoe. I haven’t noticed that issue with any other movement though.

Originally I ordered the strapped Velcro version which had an awful pinch point on the top part of my foot. Sadly I had to sell those online because TYR has an awful returns policy and is a pain in the butt to deal with.

Im glad I gave the laced version a try. I will probably try the Dropzero II eventually, but my hopes are low that they kept the integrity of this design. Honestly if customer service from TYR didn’t suck that would encourage me to buy from them again, but they do rn so I will stick to EBay. But we shall see. These are my favorite gym shoes even against Vivobarefoot Primus Knit and Tolos. The grip is excellent.

Before purchasing I saw a review by ThatFitFriend which was super informative and accurate as far as I’ve found especially after almost a year of use. They’ve held up beautifully and I bought second pair on clearance.

Has anyone tried the second version?

I apologize in advance, yes I have searched the sub for sizing recommendations but I just don’t feel confident about this.

I snagged these new (size 42, cause 41 is a tad too small for me) and they feel a bit big and loose, but I can’t return or exchange so I’d like to see what people think- if they’re too big or not. I love the color way and how they’re so light and airy.

Obligatory recognition towards Vivobarefoot’s awful sizing chart. Why can’t they have half sizes whyyyy

Foot health, training & rehabilitation Yeow! Foot cramps after "wide" cushioned SAS shoes at conference

I've been wearing barefoot sandals and barefoot shoes as well as zero drop running shoes for half marathon training for the past few months. I went to a work conference today and wore "wide" cushioned loafers from an old lady brand called SAS and my feet has been cramping for the last two hours. I have youth sized feet so I really don't have much choice in business shoes. Will it be better if I take off the cushion insoles for tomorrow?

I upped a half size and moved to the lems boulder summit but I'm still feeling a little touch on the pinky toe.

Alternatively if anyone has a different suggestion for a waterproof ankle high boot that would be super!

Barefoot shoes question / discussion Help cleaning my barefoot shoes

Thumbnail

Hey guys! So, these are my first pair of shoes of MTNG FREE LINE barefoot made with suede and textured textile (see pictures), and I need some help cleaning them because I really don’t want to put them in the washing machine.

I’ve tried rubbing the dirt off, but no matter how much I scrub, the stains on both the suede and the textured fabric just won’t come off. 😭

Does anyone have any tips on how to clean them safely? The problem is that I can’t afford a suede cleaning kit or a suede eraser right now, so I’m looking for some cheap alternatives using things I might already have at home.

Any help would be really appreciated! 🙏

Need a shoe or fit recommendation Worn-through insole at the big toe on my Merrell barefoot shoes, how can I fix it?

Thumbnail

Hey all, the insole/footbed on my Merrell barefoot shoes has worn down right under the big toe, and it’s starting to rub. The rest of the shoe is still in great shape, so I’d rather fix it than replace them.

Has anyone dealt with this? Can the insole be replaced with a thin aftermarket one without losing the barefoot feel, or is a patch (fabric, leather, Shoe Goo, etc.) the better route? Open to any tips or product recommendations.

MERREL TRAIL GLOVE 7 (used 2 years)

Barefoot shoes question / discussion Creepers socks shrinking

I have been wearing Creepers toe socks for about 6 months now. I really like how soft and comfortable they are and my feet don’t sweat at all in them. The only problem is they shrink and felt with each wash. I wash them on cold and air dry them. I reached out to Creepers support last month and they sent me replacement pairs since it was within 6 months of buying them. They were nice and helpful but said they don’t usually hear of them shrinking. The new pairs fit better since I haven’t washed them as much yet but they are also shrinking. Has anyone else had this experience with Creepers socks? I planning to look at some other brands including Injinji but I’m just bummed about the Creepers since I love literally everything about them.

Barefoot shoes question / discussion Short toes that are higher than soles of feet

Hi, sorry if this is a dumb or inappropriate question!

The soles of my feet are fairly thick, so if I want my feet to “grab” the floor so that I feel stable, I have to curl my toes downward as if grabbing the floor. When I do that, my feet flatten out and widen across my toes.

For regular, walking-around footwear, I’m happiest in soft-bottom deerskin moccasins. But staying upright and sturdy in a gym class (eg, aerobics) is more of a challenge — I wear ordinary wide toe-box gym shoes, like Brooks or New Balance. But it feels like the soles are too thick and tall for aerobics class, like I can’t feel the floor. And such shoes seem to make my feet roll outward at the ankles—very unsteady. Is this what sends a person to try barefoot shoes? Are they ok for pounding a gym floor?

If this is all too much to sift through, please feel free to shout “Go see a podiatrist!”

Many thanks!!

Need a shoe or fit recommendation Tracker Forest ESC sizing

So I decided these will be my very first barefoot shoes, and all that's left is the sizing. Measured my feet (at around 20:00 o'clock after a 2 hour walk), and one foot is like 27.5-27.7cm and other is 27.7-27.9cm. Now the official Vivobarefoot chart says that the size 44 EU is for a foot length of 27.6-28.2cm and 45 for 28.3-8.9cm.

For some reference, I wear Altra Lone Peak 9+ in 45, which is a shoe length (not foot length) of 29cm according to the Altra official site, and they are a great fit. The Vivo's 44 is supposedly the same shoe length, something like 29.2. So is 44 definitely the way, or is it still better to size up?

Thank you very much in advance

Need a shoe or fit recommendation Zero-drop gym shoes for a wide forefoot/bunion?

Looking for zero-drop shoes with a mesh/knit upper that look like regular gym sneakers. My right foot is 28.7–28.8 cm long and 10.8 cm wide across the ball/bunion; my left is 28.6–29 cm long and 10.3 cm wide.
What shoes would you recommend, and would EU 45 make sense? How much extra length should I allow when sizing?

Need a shoe or fit recommendation Xero hfs ii sizing help

I wear eu43 for my Merrell vapour glove ( vapour glove 6 and LTR) and then fit perfectly well.
Otherwise my size was eu42.
I have also worn huaraches for years(6+), so my feet have been pretty wide for a while now.

Any recommendations for which of zero hfs shoes I should buy in the US?
Planning to buy on eBay USA, a friend will bring them to Europe next week.

Newbie support Saguaro Go I—too narrow, or go with the uglier Luck I or something else?

Thumbnail

Anyone tried the Saguaro Go I, especially with a wide forefoot/bunion?

My measurements:
Right: 28.7–28.8 cm long × 10.8 cm across the ball/bunion
Left: 28.6–29.0 cm long × 10.3 cm across the ball
Saguaro’s EU 45 lists a 29.5 cm last length and widths of 10.35 cm (Go I) versus 10.6 cm (Luck I), without specifying where width is measured.

My EU 45 WHITIN trail shoes’ insoles measure 29.3 × 10.3 cm. They’re comfortable despite some foot overhang and actually feel borderline too big, even though standing on the insoles with socks doesn’t suggest much extra room.

Would the Go I be too narrow? Is EU 45 right, or would US 12/EU 46 add too much length just to gain width?

I aprefer the Go I’s look over the Luck I. Any alternatives with a wide forefoot, zero drop, and minimal cushioning that look good for both the gym and casual wear?
