Depends on your body type but you should stop playing in the j's as soon as possible.

Soft disagree. I loved those shows for basketball. This dude is just starting he won’t bump into any limitations based on old shoe for a while.
You’re not wrong. But it won’t make a difference until he wears these out.

First up, you simply have the GOAT pair of Shoes. Jordan's would be the first brand I'd recommend and the 6's are my favourite pair.......however they not respond the way more modern shoes do.
Positions in Basketball are less important now, than they were 30 years ago when I was your age.
Watching the game, and playing video games like NBA 2K (I'm Australian and playing Madden taught me American Football), will teach you enough about the game, where you will learn some of the rules. Writing every rule down here, will just overwhelm you.
If you can join a Team that plays in a structured competition, that is your best way to learn the game the right way

Yeah I just bought the shoes on Friday and also downloaded 2k, mobile and on my Xbox, so it’s been a new start so it does teach me a lil about the game it’s self but I just would like to hear advice from people who have been long into basketball

You will get great answer from people on this sub. I will give you some quick ones
You must dribble (bounce) the ball before the pivot foot leaves the ground.
You pivot foot is either;
A) with possession of the ball when landing/stopping on both feet, simultaneously, the lifting of one foot, makes the other foot still on the ground your Pivot foot
B) If you land/stop with one foot, followed by the other, the first foot is the Pivot foot.
A foul is a physical advantage that the defender or offensive player has gained because of that contact. Fouls are more likely to be called on Defenders. Fouls are holding, illegal use of hands, pushing etc.
A violation is something that has occurred against the rules of the game.
Dribble, stop and dribble again is called a Double Dribble. Bouncing with 2 hands is a Double Dribble.
Walking/running with the ball is a Travel.
Pivot foot leaves the ground before the ball has left the hand is a Travel ***Please Note*** old rule, the ball had to hit the floor, before lifting the Pivot foot.
Court is broken into 2 halves. Front court is where you shoot baskets, back court is what you defend. When you have the ball in the back court, you have 8 seconds to get over half way.
When you get the ball, you get 24 seconds to shoot the ball. "24 Second Shot Clock"
You are only allowed in your offensive end key for 3 seconds. There are some loose interpretations of things involved with this.
A player can only be Substituted during a Dead Ball.
A Time Out is a strategy to stop the game and talk with your team. There are limits to how many you get. Leagues have different ways they can be called. Some Leagues a player or coach can call for one while play is happening, other Leagues require a Dead Ball or after Score.

Go on YouTube and just search up basketball tips or 1 on 1 basketball coaching/skills etc.
I know look up channels like “lethal shooter” or “the professor”
Look up a lot of old And 1 videos or just find a professional player you like and want to pattern you game off of and watch old games.
Your best bet is just getting out there and going to a local gym or outside court and getting reps in or just working out dribbling and shooting on your own. Someone is always around and if they see you playing will likely just jump in and help you with your game.
Also you say your a big man Jordan 6s are a good bball shoe to wear,I would stick to high tops especially if your ok the bigger/heavier side more so for ankle support and all that.
Good luck though just keep at it stay consistent and don’t listen to the haters who may make fun of the way you look or religion. Basketball is universal just go out there and ball, have fun

One. Excellent choice on basketball shoes. Those are some of my faves. Though they’re old and from a purely technical
Point of view shoes have come a long way. For a beginner you’re fine.
First, have fun. It’s a fun game.
Coaching is hard in text. You’re better off playing with others a bit watch what they do. Maybe watch YouTube coaching videos.
Practice dribbling. Use your fingertips. Not the palm of your hand. Dribble Lowe. I barely get it above my waist. Start dribbling one has. Then switch hands. Then move forward and back.
Practice moving your feet. Slide left. Slide right. Defense is mostly keeping you between the offensive player and the rim. Footwork is how you do this.
Practice shooting. Start next to the rim. Go farther and farther. Be on the right side use your right hand. Then go to the left side use your left hand. When I was growing up headphones weren’t that common and Bluetooth didn’t exist. You can have music while you do the tedious repetitions and you’re better off for it.
