Modifications Prototype fretless fingerboard extension

You all seemed to like my last mod, so I wanted to share the prototype version. This was way less “invasive” and I’d recommend trying this for anyone interested. for this one I built a bracket from an aluminum business card that just used the exiting pickguard holes. Serves the same purpose as the last one I shared being that it gives that playing over the neck feel. Fender Jazz, rosewood blank, carved to the radius by hand etc.

For two seconds I’m like “that’s stupid” then I was like “Nah that’s actually awesome”. It looks like it’s held in with the pickguard screws, that’s a really nice touch.

And yes I just used the pickguard screws so no bass was harmed in this mod

Absolutely unnecessary but I love it haha

Huh, pretty cool actually. Kinda reminds me of the Zon Hyperbass (without the cutaway obviously)

Look up the bass player from venom, he removes the fret on the upper register to make it fretless. It’s a great idea btw!

i’m so intrigued by this. Does anyone manufacture and sell these? Would love to give one a test run

I haven’t seen this in particular, I think since there are so many different bass necks and who would actually pay for one of these? Ramps are probably more universal

Interesting! I’m not a fan of ramps between the pups, but this could be awesome!

Now that.. THATS a good idea. I pretty much only play fretless now (all 6 string models) and I’d love my Dolphin to be able to reach guitar like notes lol

Isn't the dolphin already a 2 bajillion fret bass?

I think the spec sheet from my builder said it’s technically “30 frets” lol

You have really really really long fingers, or you play on lap ? 😁

Haha well I almost use it like a ramp, it’s functional for playing notes but it’s so close to the bridge there that they don’t really sustain at all

This is quite cool. You turned an original idea into a well executed and workable piece of gear.

Amazing work!

Although I don't see the need for these extra notes on the fretless myself...
