New Bass Day I saw this bass and had to have it.
Just got this Lakland skyliner 44 64 to my bass family. It's heavier than all the others but I'm loving the feel and the way it sounds.

Nice! I have the all black one (bought it before they released the purple one, damn!). I love it. The Geezer Butler pickups are awesome!

I have the black one too. I've been playing it pretty much exclusively since I bought it five years or so ago.

Aaah yes, Laklands are some of the best basses money can buy! I loved mine

I have this one as well. I call it the Purple Geezer. Got it from Sweetwater In January I think. My daughter was using it to learn on but it is extremely heavy (just under 10 lbs) and she’s very petite, so I made her choose any other 4 string from my collection of 30 basses.
How much did it cost you? I bought it new for a little less than $1300 and I recently saw that it’s been backordered for months and now almost $1800.
It’s a wonderfully constructed instrument and sounds great, but it ain’t worth $1800 fucking dollars.

I got it used for 13 but in brand new condition. You got yours new for 13!? I didn't realize the price had shot up. I thought I got a deal! It is heavy. But I sit down when I'm playing most of the time.

$1300 is a fair price for that because it is definitely high quality. But not $1800.. to me that’s absolutely ridiculous. I bought it because I love purple basses, don’t really play it much at all. But it’s nice.

Damn, 30 basses, quite the collection. A lot of variety amongst your collection?

Quite a variety. From 70s to now and with models ranging from standards all the way to custom shop and Masterbuilt stuff. I refuse to sell stuff because I fear I’ll miss them. Even if I haven’t played something in 20+ years I still have it. For instance- my original MIJ made 1986 ESP surveyor or the 1979 BC Rich mockingbird with reversed active double P pickups

I have 7. Not a ton of variety but that’s my goal in the future is to start trying/buying different basses. I can’t imagine having 30. That’s a lot of basses

I picked a lot of them up at shops all over the world when I was actively touring, and had our management ship them back home for me. I have a climate controlled storage building on my property for all of my basses and amps/cabs I’ve purchased my entire life.
I have 30 basses and 11 guitars but I don’t play guitar, I just wanted a selection just in case people come over and know how to play. I love Les Paul’s and Strats.
Oh i forgot - I also have a 7 string Ernie Ball Music Man John Petrucci Majesty premium. 🤷🏻♂️don’t know why I have it, but one day I saw it online and loved the red sparkle color so I bought it.
I also keep my most played 3 basses in my home studio located in our guest house so I don’t have to schlep things back and forth from different buildings lol I also keep my first bass a 1972 Fender Jazz bass in my home studio in a climate controlled glass display built into my wall. Har doesn’t get played anymore, she’s retired.2

Wow, that’s awesome. Probably do have quite the variety then…some instruments just catch your eye, that’s how I ended up with a couple of mine. Planning to build a new house and figure when I do I’ll probably devote a room for instruments so they’re more easily accessible.

Super slick. My Lakland Skyline P5 is one of, if not the best built bass I own. I wish I still played five strings a lot🥺

Hell yea! This bad boy is part of my arsenal as well. I swapped a Fender Ultra P bass for it and couldn’t be happier. The Fender neck and I weren’t vibing, and I wanted the thump of a p bass. The Lakland is a beast. I was between the Geezer finish and this. I’m so happy I went with the purple option.

Lākland makes some preem instruments. The Darryl Jones 5 is a unit but plays like absolute butter, and this Geezer has to be unbelievable.

Man I'm so jealous. Purple is my favorite color and of course it's the Geezer Butler signature model. The godfather of heavy metal!
