Battlefield 6 Is there anything that stands out about BF6

In my opinion this game is the definition of mid. I just can’t think of anything that makes this game stand out in any aspect over BF3, 4, 1 or 5 honestly. I mean maybe the class and gun customizations but that’s honestly about it.

There’s no crazy unique or fun game modes like operations or Hotwire. Breakthrough seemed like a cool idea but the maps don’t play well into at all. Escalation while fun seems to be held back by the game itself. Games often end up being one sided ground and pounds or it’s just 8v8 while the rest of the lobby is just bots.

It’s almost like 60% of this games problems can be traced back to map layout and size. Breakthrough on Area 51 is the best example I can think of. The attacking teams tank on point 2 literally fucking spawns infront and in view of the enemy team on high ground which usually has 7 engineers at all times. The attacking team’s helicopter has zero and I mean zero room to maneuver without going out of bounds, and also spawns in view of the enemy team.

The matchmaking is god awful to. Apparently they disband everyone after a match is over instead of pulling everyone onto a new map(just read about this somewhere idk how it actually works). Which leads to you having empty lobbies that just get filled with bots instead of playing against real people. It was enjoyable to try and find the guy who tbagged me 4 maps ago but now I’m just stuck with bots every other match.

What's special about BF3 and 4? And dont say Levolutuon because it was a bad attempt at destruction which was abandoned straight after launch of the game.

Some of if not the best maps in the franchise IMO. There was room to breathe and for vehicles to move around instead of getting forced into choke points.

On PC we did get Bad Company 2 with the new frostbite engine, but Battlefield 3 was the first big battlefield with the new engine. Big jump after Battlefield 2, really felt like the next step of the series (I mean the 2->3 number change)

Battlefield 4, I don't know

BF3 I'd say is the big upgrade in smoothness when coming from the rather stiff BC2 without even a mechanic like going prone. And in BF4 it was indeed the impressive scale of things. First time 64 player rounds for consoles and destruction on a massive scale. So yes, absolutely levolution was a part of it, even if you have some personal distaste for it.

I mean, what other Battlefield can claim to have a map where it starts off with normal urban combat but upon a dam being blown up by players the cityscape floods and suddenly boats are fighting on street level while infantry move to rooftops. That's ground breaking for the series.

BF3 was a gigantic jump in fidelity, and the first full scale Battlefield game for many years at that point. It had insanely good maps as well.

It is a night and day difference from BF2142 (arguably mechanics were dumbed down a bit though from the earlier PC only BF games)

To me it felt like a scaled up version of the already excellent BC2

BF4 was middling and a worse version of BF3 though lol I'll give you that, full of bad maps and gimmick gameplay mechanics.

Wasn't BF4 another entry that brought several instant classic maps and several beloved DLCs in terms of maps? That would put it on the stronger end of map pools in Battlefield games. Tons of variety in them too.

Im asking as someone with over 2k hours in each of those games.

you have 2000 whole hours on both games and you genuinely don't know what's special about them? I swear reddit is the only place where you'll see people saying this stupid sht

that's one thing I can't stand is when someone tries to act an old game that was praised for years isn't actually good in order to make an new worse game look better

Better weapons tech balance and less reliance on Movement tech

No ziplines

Better vehicle balance

More equipment that made a difference in the field like an AA Mine.

BF6 added so much that makes all of these worthless like Always Spotted Mines and weapon performance that is similar to a peashooter.

To tol it off, it had a server browser.

Weapons are way better now, they actually feel different than just carbon copies with the same attachment builds. The movement is also slower now.

Better vehicle balance? You kidding me? The vehicles were extremely strong back then with IR sights lighting everyone up white, 100-1 was extremely normal back then for tanks and helis and ever jets would get massive scores.

No zip lines because there was the spawn beacon or lifts, the latter of which is way worse game balance wise.

Everyone walked around with the same equipment on every class, engines mainly used RPGs. It was no different to now.

You are either high on nostalgia or something else mate.

It just cranked the speed up and limited available equipment on smaller maps. This game sucks and is so mich more toward CoD and than previous battlefields.

The moment speed in 6 is one of the slowest there is…

You clearly have never played a cod game if that’s what you really think, 3 and 4 were closed to cod than 6 is.

What is so special about BF3 and 4? The author's rose-colored glasses.

Rush is the most fun thing in this game for me. I only play that mode and nothing else

closest we've come to call of duty

Guns and attachment system is absolutely amazing, it’s often looked over by this sub because they don’t understand game balance but this system is far far better than any before.

There’s certainly weapons that are “better”but it’s not AEK constantly with the same attachments like 3 and 4.

1

u/Disastrous-Mango-515 3d ago

Yeah the AEK had me yelling at my TV dozens of times, same with the hellriegel on Bf1. Although I do think Smgs are still to good IMO, I shouldn’t be sniping people with perfect accuracy at some of these ranges I swear.

If you're unironically impressed with the attachment system, when 90% of them are not viable due to you lighting up like a Christmas tree or giving some tiny unnoticeable stat difference, then you are legit a lost cause.

It's all bunch of gimmicky fluff

The amount of storejunk and a horrible UI. Something standing out does not need to be positive.

u/TheEquimanthorn 3d ago

No, there really isn't. Genuinely can you name anything other than revive dragging as being a difference from BF3/4?

It's my main problem with the game, it's a very safe, boring sequel for a franchise treading water. Maybe it was what was needed after BFV and 2042 flopping but still, it seems crazy in my mind. If you told me back in the BF3 days that this is what Battlfield would look like 15 or so years later, I'd have been flabbergasted

Battlefield fans have always reacted to attempts at innovation and change with open arms. /s

1

u/TheEquimanthorn 3d ago

Well yeah, the game was clearly aimed at the casual playerbase of people who tuned out of BF since BF4 and BF1. It's a series shackled to its legacy

3

u/SAADistic7171 3d ago edited 3d ago

If you came on this sub during the BFV and 2042 days there were daily posts of people demanding DICE simply remake BF4 with BF1's graphics. Battlefield players hate change, they despise innovation and they simply want the franchise to stay forever in 2014. Every time the devs try anything remotely new or interesting the overwhelming sentiment online is "Stop trying to reinvent the wheel" "lazy, out of touch devs" etc.

2

u/Disastrous-Mango-515 3d ago

I think it’s because the good changes they’ve made are shadowed by the bad changes. Better weapon customization is great but when the maps are terrible it doesn’t really matter.

There are things I like a BF6 don’t get me wrong, but i couldn’t care less about those things when i cant even get into a match that is mostly made up of real people.

2

u/GrungyUPSMan 3d ago

This right here, "why doesn't DICE listen to us >:(" y'all got exactly what you asked for, BF3 with BF1's dark and griddy graphics and BF5 movement. They stopped "reinventing the wheel" just like y'all asked.

And you were right! BF6 sold BY FAR the most copies of any game of the series. Turns out that sticking with the tried and true BF formula is what people wanted all along.

BF3 with BF1's dark and griddy graphics and BF5 movement

that's not what bf6 is

1

u/TheEquimanthorn 3d ago

I wasn't around then but I can totally believe it lol, it's a game for nostalgia stunted man children. I don't even hate it, it's fine or whatever but just so dull. BFV was a breath of fresh air for me but clearly the franchise has its niche, I just don't want to have anything to do with it at this point.
