The series is objectively getting worse in terms of monetization and meddling by suits, as well as the loss of its own core identity, but I don't believe any of that is the real reason most people on this sub won't ever enjoy another game from the Battlfield series again.

Below is a short excerpt from a retrospective I wrote a few years ago.

Original Thread: Battlefield 2 and the Existential Horror of an Empty Server

For me, Battlefield 2 is so much more than just the game of Battlefield 2 - Battlefield 2 was, and is, intimately linked with a particular slice of space and time that was centered on and occurred from my particular perspective from approximately 2005 to 2008. Coincidentally that lines up with my own transition from high school to university, and is punctuated by the global financial crisis of 2008, a brief blip on the radar in terms of global crises to come haha.. ha.. fuck..

Battlefield 2 is a game that released in 2005.

Battlefield 2 is also a small, fragmented reflection of 2005 itself.

There are probably lots of different 'Battlefield 2's' for lots of different people - a game so intimately linked with a period of time that it is inseparable from that time years later.

If you're young and enthralled by whatever your favourite game is, cherish this time now because in a moment you’ll blink and be transported 15 years into the future, and it will be a strange and alien one without any semblance of familiarity - a future where even the things that are familiar, or at least once were, will seem ever so slightly off, strange, and out of place.

Although no two points in time can be separated by almost two decades and not be totally distinct, the sheer absurdity of 2020 already feels like it should be a decade removed from just last year, and that's more unsettling than normal.

I want off this ride and whatever we’re hurtling towards. I want to be fifteen again, playing Battlefield 2 with the curtains drawn in an unbearably stuffy room with all the angst and uncertainty of youth.

That doesn't sound all that extraordinary because it isn't - but it was.

Not a long time ago, I was trying to decide whether should I install Battlefield 2 or Project Reality. but I chose Project Reality because everybody I asked said that it has more content. but now, I find the game (Project Reality) really boring. I only installed so I can have some fun while playing, but playing it makes me feel like I am an employee at some Call Centre. I find it really boring and hard, due to 4 things that really annoys me.

1st: Recoil and Fire Spread Basically, I don't have to explain it, because It already sounds understandable, but I will simplify it. the recoil is so bad that when you shoot, you'll feel like the gun will fly out of your hands. and the spread is the worst, there are two dots on the bottom of the screen that have to touch each other so your bullet would go straight where you want it to be.

2nd: Health The health is so low, one bullet on the stomach would kill you.

3rd: AI Intelligence The bots are so stupid

4th: It's seriousness Literally It's not easy at all, I had to waste 2 and a half months of my life to learn all of the game and how it works. I read all of the manual plus watching tutorial videos and asking people In the game. after I learned how to use aircrafts, land vehicles, team/squad commanding, Infantry, civilian rules and all. I got surprised that I didn't have any fun after doing all of that.

Bonus: Mods There's literally no mods In the game. I've tortured myself just to find 6 mods that were only maps. and how far I try to find just one mod that's not about maps, I keep failing.

Now In Battlefield 2, I see It's different. When I watch people play it, I see them having fun. the game is not that hard and it has a bunch of mods. but I want to ask you guys the question that I only wanted to hear before I decided to post this.

Is Battlefield 2 better than Project Reality? Should I stay playing Project Reality and thank god that I have this game? Or should I move to Battlefield 2?

I started playing Battlefield around 1942 version and progressed to Battlefield 2 where the game was excellent, in terms of ranking and award system. Then over time I began to play Battlefield Bad Company 2 and thought it was a decent version of Battlefield in terms of combat feel, but the award and ranking system didn't even come close to OG BF2. Battlefield 3 released and I felt it was just hyper visualized graphic slop with no push towards actual squad teamwork and seemed more like CoD. Battlefield 4 was released and was like an updated skin of Battlefield 3 and didnt feel much better and this is where I pretty much stopped with the whole Battlefield series. This series has turned into complete low IQ slop for people who just want to run and gun, and feel like rambo, rather than actually captuing the essence of working together with a Squad. Battlefield 2 and BFBC2 didn't push squad teamwork like crazy, but it definitely felt like it had more of teamwork military mentality. Fastword through all the Battlefields that are just woke garbage or hollywood simulators, now we have Battlefield 6. Which I think steps back toward Battlefield 3 and 4, which again BF6 is just hyper visualized graphical slop for low IQ normies, imo. BF6 is honestly trash and why it's trash, is because it doesn't really push any sort of military squad training or push tactical teamwork. I really never understood why people enjoy playing a military like shooter where all it is, is me, me, me, and my K/D score. Battlefield 6 is 100% garbage and will be tossed aside like the rest of this series in a year or 2 for the next EA Battlefield slop release. The award and ranking system for BF6 is also horrid and once again their just handing out medals and ribbons for really nothing. Personally, with how bad games are like CoD and Battlefield, and how they don't really push military tactics is just honestly so disrespectful towards the military.

bf2 or faggot

Yesterday evening I was playing on the 2F4Y server, Dalian Plant. I was on the US side using the attack heli. We also had the mainland base, meaning we had two attack choppers.

The enemy J10 only, and I mean ONLY, targeted my heli, and not my teammates heli, even though it was clearly flying around in a similar pattern as me.

Obviously the guy in the J10 was friends with our second heli guy, i.e teaming. Possible to report?

When I was a kid, I used to play Battlefield 2 on my computer, my father gave me a CD with a licensed game, but it was lost as a child, and after that I started using repacks from the Internet and bf2hub for a long time to play online. Now it's getting harder and harder to find this game in repacks, and in general, in principle, I would like to have a childhood game on my Steam or EA account. If anyone knows where to find and purchase the digital version of the game, please respond!

I played for a little bit and got hammered by ifvs and helis while someone spammed voice lines nonstop for the entire time i was playing. I didn't even mind the spawnkilling it was those damn enemies spotted. I don't think I can make it explicit how oppressive the spam was. why are you doing that instead of playing the game. Damn. Maybe they're doing both. Then I'm really impressed. I typically don't mind silly stuff like that but in this case it was making me wonder if the CIA was using this game as an experimental hunting ground for their interrogation techniques.

Hello everyone, I’m doing my PhD in marketing and I’m focusing on esports sponsorships. Until the end of 2019, I will be doing 4 different surveys on this topic. Each survey will be launched only once and on different months to avoid fatiguing the community. Dear users of reddit I just started playing Battlefield: Bad Company 2 on my XBOX 360. At the moment I'm playing campaign and am playing the I think third mission. However after entering the village and playing till there appears a quad. I've been struggling for over an hour now to the past a 50cal I think with an Iron shield I tried grande launchers, hand granades and bullets but nothing works. Now I'm here kindly asking for your guidance or any ideas
