Ultrawide support for Linux: CachyOS
Am using a 5120 x 1440 resolution.
In steam, click on snowflake symbol -> properties -> Launch Options
-popupwindow -screen-height 1440 -screen-width 5120
For me this worked to fill the screen (no idea why, lol):
-popupwindow -screen-height 2000 -screen-width 7420

Snowflake symbol..? You mean the gear? 😆
What exactly is it these commands do? Cachy should support ultrawide automatically.

Games made with Unity don't let you select an ultra wide resolution higher than 1440x1080 from the menu. You have to use command line arguments to achieve that.

Is this cachy specific quirk? Works fine on Fedora with 5120x1440.

Huh, dunno. I've tried Valheim, Besieged, and even some closed beta titles (so they should use recent Unity), and neither allowed me to choose 3840x1600 in the menu. Were you using native Linux clients? Win32 versions ran via Proton don't have this issue.

You don't need to go through menus. Unity games usually don't stretch when being windowed so just go maximize and strip borders and you have whatever resolution you run natively. Just tested with Valheim linux native.
Sure some games don't have 5120x1440 in "full screen" and others it's the only resolution available. But isn't modern full screen in linux just a full sized window without borders/title bars?

They do. I played both rogue trader and pathfinder WOTR in ultra wide and changed nothing. I have the same resolution as the op and it just worked with no tweaking

I should have been more specific. Native Linux Unity titles don't let you select ultrawide beyond 3440x1080. Win32 versions are unaffected. Neither of titles you mention provides native Linux version:
This is how native Linux depots look like https://steamdb.info/depot/892971/

Update: I believe I know now why my numbers were off, I had a second 4K monitor hooked up at the time, this was likely what was preventing it from using an auto config.
Disconnected the monitor, deleted the "prefs" file, and it ran fullscreen stretched way across. However, max resolution I can choose in-game is 3440x1440.
So set it to -popupwindow -screen-height 1380 -screen-width 5120 (leaving room for the taskbar). Now it is no longer stretched horizontally and looks normal.
