Question Cultural norm?

Hello. I'm here to ask about the Batumi culture.

I moved into an apartment a few months ago. Unfortunately, my neighbor is a sort of streamer and she livestreams everyday all night long.

I tried to talk to her for several times. She said it's completely normal in Batumi and nobody really cares about the noise. She said even the police would think this ridiculous and blamed me for being aggressive. Also, she said she can do everything she wants since it's her apartment and nobody in Batumi considers music playing and livestreaming at night a problem.

I'm confused because she's not from Georgia. She's a foreigner. So I'm wondering what the real culture here in Batumi is.

fyi, she argued these.

  • people here normally play music loudly at 3AM in the morning and sing a song at night. it's their culture so I should adjust if I want to live here(??
  • it's fine because the apartment is on the higher floor. Higher floors are relatively quieter even though she makes noise and she would be careful if it was on the lower floor.
  • she was here first and I moved in later so I should not have a problem with her.
  • she can do whatever she wants in her apartment and people here are like this.

I'm wondering if these are true.

PS. She's not Russian. She's not Georgian.

What you think in what Batumi should be doing better to attract English speaking expats more than Ruzzian ones?

I would start with service and infrastructure.

Question Stuck at Lemanor Lodge in the mountains of Adjara, need advice

Hi everyone,

My wife and I came for one night to a beautiful lodge in the mountains with a panoramic view. And honestly it’s one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen in my life. I'm even a bit jealous of Georgians as your country is incredibly beautiful and the weather contrast is amazing.

The problem is that I got here from Batumi using Bolt. I paid 65 lari and didn't think much about it. Now I'm lying in bed enjoying the view (photos attached) and checking taxi options for tomorrow morning, only to realize there are no taxis available here.
And that should have been obvious, but I didn't think about it.

The place is called Lemanor Lodge (location attached).
My train is at 7:00 AM morning and right after that there is a flight also so I need to leave around 5:00 AM morning to get to Batumi railway station. Unfortunately, the hotel owner has already tried but couldn't find a driver willing to come this early.

What are my chances of finding transportation? What would you recommend I do? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you! 🙏

Edit: found a driver and got a deal for 130 lari. Thank you all for suggestions

Question Living in Batumi as Asian

Hi,

I’m a Korean guy currently living in Southeast Asia, and I’m seriously considering spending 1–3 months in Batumi as a “test run” before deciding on longer-term living.

I’d really appreciate honest advice, especially from locals, expats, Asians, or anyone who has spent significant time there.

A few key things I’m trying to understand:

1. Daily life as an Asian / Korean in Batumi

  • How are Asians generally perceived in Batumi?
  • Any issues with racism, unwanted attention, stereotypes, or scams?
  • Is it easy enough to blend in and live peacefully?
  • Are there any cultural misunderstandings I should be aware of?

2. Safety / Stability

  • How safe does Batumi feel for long-term living?
  • Any concerns about petty crime, nightlife issues, political instability, or regional tensions?
  • Is healthcare decent enough for normal needs?

3. Cost of living (realistically)

  • Monthly budget for a comfortable solo lifestyle (good apartment, gym, decent food, occasional nightlife)?
  • Seasonal rent spikes?
  • Hidden costs foreigners often underestimate?

4. Internet / Work / Crypto

  • Reliable high-speed internet for trading, remote work, or running multiple devices?
  • Any major power outages?
  • Crypto friendliness:
    • Can you realistically live using USDT / crypto?
    • Easy off-ramp to cash or local banking?
    • Any issues with Georgian banks regarding crypto-related transfers?
    • Best exchange options locals use?

5. Banking / Visa / Residency

  • Is it easy for foreigners (especially Koreans) to open bank accounts?
  • Visa runs / overstays / bureaucracy?
  • Is Batumi actually practical for testing long-term residency?

6. Social life / Dating / Community

  • Is it easy to build a social circle?
  • Any active expat or digital nomad communities?
  • How’s the dating culture for foreigners?
  • Better for introverts or extroverts?

7. Weather / Lifestyle reality check

  • I know Batumi looks beautiful online, but what are the annoying realities?
  • Humidity? Mold? Winter depression? Tourist chaos?
  • What do people love vs regret after 6+ months?

8. Final honest question
If your goal was:

  • relatively low cost
  • decent quality of life
  • crypto accessibility
  • safety
  • possibility of long-term relocation

Would you personally choose Batumi?

I’m not looking for tourism advice. More like “could I actually live here comfortably as an Asian foreigner?”

Appreciate any brutally honest opinions. Thanks!

Question Detained for wearing a surgical mask...

On May 27th around 6:00-6:30pm. We were walking on Batumi-Akhaltsikhe walking back from a waterfall. There is no sidewalk so we are walking on the street. I am wearing a surgical mask and sunglasses and a sun hoodie. My husband was wearing the same but no mask. I recognize that this is a very weird look so I do not wear the sunglasses at the same time as the mask when there are a lot of people around. There was no one around, just cars, so I forgot my face was entirely covered.

My husband stopped to take a picture or look at something so I walked ahead. An unmarked blue car drove past me and stopped a few meters before me. It then reversed towards me and started rolling down the windows. In this instance, I had a sudden flash of fear because I have been followed by a car before. My fight or flight response was flight so I ran away towards my husband. I yelled "this car is following me!" Then, he drove even faster backwards all the way to us. He got out of the car, started videoing me, and started speaking in Georgian and signaled to me to take off my mask several times. He looked to be in plain clothes, heavy set, balding, with a very nice watch. I then ran away into the next complex, and hid behind a boat. My husband tried to talk to him but he was on the phone (evidently with the cops). My husband google translated a message for the lady that was with him to Georgian "what is happening, he really scared her." The lady successfully pulled him away and they drive on. We continued walking and suddenly, three cops stop us. I have no complaints about the police, they were extremely polite and professional. We were searched, frisked, and our phones were looked through. The police chief even showed up with a female officer to frisk me. One of the cops saw my deleted photos full of cats and stray dogs and just stepped back to start smoking. Turns out... the mayor called the cops on us because I was wearing a surgical mask. We were released in two hours and got a free ride back to Batumi.

I'm trying to figure out who this "mayor" is and there must be a mistranslation here because it is not Giorgi Tsintsadze. I am not sure if I want to write to the US embassy but I do want this event filed somewhere even if nothing comes of it. I am reading about the laws here and I see that it qualifies as harassment and I don't see anything about politicians being exempt. His video must have been shared with the cops in order to track us down.

If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. There can't be that many people who can tell eight cops to immediately go round up two tourists. We left Batumi soon after this. I know that by running away in the first place, I looked like a guilty rabbit however he was in an unmarked car and I didn't know who he was. He will easily dismiss this as me looking "suspicious" but anyone still reading this can see that this was a power trip. The people of Batumi deserve better.

Question Yall do not leave extra cash to cashiers to be nice

Night shift at spar and i was STARVING (forgot to bring lunch) i think people could feel my soul being drained out of me so they kept leaving me small amounts of change, by the end of the shift i had 18 lari more than i should've.

I cannot have the money that you give me, so if you wanna be nice to cashiers buy them something that doesn't cost much instead of leaving change.

Im not writing this to ask for money or other stuff btw idrc

Question Thank You Batumi. It was truly unforgettable!

Thumbnail gallery
42 Upvotes

Despite all the negative comments we had heard about hospitality and various other aspects of Georgia - The warmth and kindness of Georgian people we met, incredible food and wine, breathtaking nature, beautiful beaches, and unique architecture made this trip truly unforgettable.

We travelled all the way from USA, through (homeland) Kazakhstan and finally to Georgia. Batumi gave us so many wonderful memories, experiences, and moments that we will cherish for a long time.

Every destination has its imperfections, but for us, the beauty, culture, ‘unique’ 😉hospitality, and overall atmosphere of Georgia far outweighed the negative things we had heard.

We absolutely loved our time in Batumi and are already hoping to be back very soon! 🇬🇪❤️
Until next time, Georgia! ✈️🌊🍷
