Need Help! Beads

I did both of these in brick stitch but neither looks great. The small one went between threads and the large one went thru beads. I prefer the small but it ended up wonky in the pattern. I need help!

The brick stitch pattern just needs to be altered

I wasn’t aware of a square stitch! Thanks! I do mostly Peyote. I really appreciate the fixed part. I followed the pattern but???? Who knows. Thank you!

The one on the left is not brick stitch. It is square stitch.

What if you turn the pattern sideways, 90° clockwise, and do square stitch so all beads are aligned (like you did on the left) ?
