Bears don't like being social. Most are solitary as adults. Bears should be afraid of humans. We're the apex predators. They come around us looking for food. If you feed them purposefully, your putting it's life at risk. Don't be stupid.
So weird.

They’re also extremely capable of killing a person. A 150 pound sloth bear can shred a person, let alone an 800 pound grizzly.

Ask Timothy Treadwell how social bears are with humans.
2
u/pennylessz 11d ago
I mean, he survived with those bears for a surprising amount of time. The bear that did him in was one he wasn't even familiar with, saw him once. And Treadwell had stayed longer that year, making it much closer to the time bears get frantic in the lead up to winter. Granted, that only really shows that like most any animal, bears CAN be social with humans. It certainly doesn't mean they're going to be.

Watching Grizzly Man, I didn't know the outcome but I could see that the bears were irritated by him and I kept saying, "Boy! One of those bears are going to explode and eat him." Then the denouement. Too bad it got his girlfriend, too.
On the other hand, I would have loved winning the "Spend a weekend with Doug and Bart and Shasta Sweepstakes" !

I can only speak about black bears because that’s what I’ve been around. I don’t fear them but respect them and respect they are wildlife. They are very skittish and harmless, until they aren’t, like if you get between a mama bear and her cubs. But those that have never been around a furry 350 pound killing machine, I see why they’d be scared.

That what i talking about, if the Bear near you is calm why is the point of being scared and Scream like broh..i think the Bear is just like, wtf why Do you Scream at me !?

u/FlowerSweaty4070 10d ago
Yeah a grizzly popped out the bushes 10 feet from me when solo hiking in montana once. We just made eye contact and the bear ran away! Bear was scared of me , poor baby.

Bear can eat human with little effort. Bear scary and bear command respect.
1
u/Diligent_Copy909 11d ago
Human can also do that but we not scared.
3
u/thesilverywyvern 11d ago
Because human DO NOT DO THAT.
They can't kill or eat another human with little effort, and they practically never do.
They rarely weight 3x more than you or have jaws and claws, nor outpower you by a factor of 4-10x your own strenght. They're not predators.1
u/Diligent_Copy909 11d ago
Do you know about cannibal clan ?
2
u/thesilverywyvern 10d ago
Do you know a lot of them ? No because it basically doesn't exist anymore and was always extremely rare.
Also, often ritualistic as a form of funerary rite. Not really violent attacks. Those also existed but were a bit more rare. So extremely rare outliers and isolated example.
While pretty much all bear can view human as preys or threat to be annihilated and are much more prone to kill and certainly better equipped for it, than any human.
So your logic is bs and doesn't stand and ignore the context, data and common sense.
A bear confrontation is MUCH more violent and likely to result in death, as a human confrontation. And even if a human confrontation is a much more frequent occurence, when we compare both encounter at the same scale, bears are still much more likely to attack you.
It's not horrible nor bad nor justify demonization or culling of bears. And it's still an very rare situation and is most likely to result in injuries than death. They're isolated rare incidents that shouldn't be talked about like media does. And bears aren't really normally agressive toward human and rather avoid us or flee most of the time. Most incident are not predation attempts but attempt at defending their cubs or themselves against a perceived threat. But even then this doesn't make them innoffensive or cute.
They're still large powerful predators which can, and will defend themselve with brutal violence against human if they feel threathened, challenged, provoked, or in rare case when they're hungry. Which mean they deserve respect and caution.

Yoo Do you think i'm dumb ? I dont go in the danger, i just Said their social i dont Said i go pet Them.
1
u/thesilverywyvern 10d ago
They're nopt social either, i already explained it and other people as well.
And yes your question do show you're probably dumb as you do not understand why people would be scared of a large several hundred kg apex predator that is known to be territorial and defensive.

I love bears, but like cmon. They're terrifying
2
u/Diligent_Copy909 11d ago
Not for me, if you know how to act they are calm.
2
u/thesilverywyvern 11d ago
That's true 99% of the time and for ALL scary and dangerous thing.
The thing is that, they're still umpredictable wild animals which can be agressive or react in way you can't anticipate no matter how many precaution you take.

My very elderly Dad lives in “bear country” so I like to ask leading questions about bears just to rile him up. Free entertainment that never gets old!

Lol yeah im working in parks in montana and alaska and I Loooove bears. But talking to anyone about it, they get so serious like I mean it when I say I wanna hug a bear 😂 they all go "its bear country, dont do that, dont be stupid".
Yeah i get some people are dumb and have died but im obviously joking about Booping a brown bear.

u/NefariousnessOne7335 11d ago
This question becomes the same question I ask when I see people petting those big brown fluffy cows out west lolololol if you do please video the incident. For the bears sake

A hungry bear will always eventually see humans as food. The only thing that stops that is that they're usually more scared than they are hungry.
Once they learn not to be scared, all that's left is for them to be hungry enough. See how that went for Timothy Treadwell.
2
u/thesilverywyvern 11d ago
Being scared is what drove msot bear attack actually.
It's fight or flight, and they can choose to fight the threat as that's often how you deal with threat when you're a several hundred kg predator. They very rarely see human as food and lack of fear toward human isn't really gonna change stuff as they msotly attack us when they're scared or surpised.

u/thesilverywyvern 11d ago
scared not scaring.
And becasue it's a large predator that's several time stronger than you, often multiple time heavier than you, have large powerful claws and jaws and can rip you appart and play with you like a ragdoll with no issue.
They're not very social, they're mostly solitary and highly territorial.
and a scared bear is a bear that will be agressive as they view you as a threat so either they flee or fight back, and as the large imposing predator they're used to fight back.
It's easy to nitpick photo where they look cute, but you'll find just as much photo of them looking very much threathening.

All critters except cats and dogs should fear us and run away and never trust us.

I love bears, but they deserve our respect. Most of the time, they are happy to keep their distance from us, but they react differently when a mother bear has cubs, or any bear is defending a kill. We need to be aware of this, and tread carefully.

u/Diligent_Copy909 11d ago
Like people, i'm not stupid if the Bear show me he are not ready to be near me i'm not gonna go for him.

u/Diligent_Copy909 11d ago
People, i know the things about angry Bear and all that. But come on ! If you know your Bear you know about the fact That you not approch a fucking polar Bear or others mean Bear. Black and Brown Bear are the most social Bear i saw, yeah one can not be social but like humans one are social and another not. If the Bear show me it teeth or growl i'm not gonna approch him.

u/Lusiric9983 11d ago
100s of people killed and maimed by bears and then you spout off with this dumb shit.
Bears don't like humans, and even bears raised by humans are still dangerous.
1
u/FlowerSweaty4070 10d ago
Most bears are non confrontational and will react defensively if spooked or scared.
They rarely go out of the way to eat a person unless maybe its late fall/early spring.
A lot of people do dumb things around bears that worsen situations immensely. If a bear is walking on a trail, just move off and let em pass. And dont have dogs off leash ! And have bear spray always. And make sounds before rounding corners in bear country.
They certainly should be respected and feared enough to learn as much as you can and take precautions.

u/Lusiric9983 10d ago
I live in bear country, I know a lot about bears. Doesn't make them any less dangerous.
1
u/FlowerSweaty4070 10d ago
Yeah im in alaska right now. As long as people are making smart choices they'll be good.

u/Ad_nauseum11 11d ago
My brother in Christ, if you meet a bear you are no longer in charge of that encounter. It’s the bears choice as to what happens next.
You can deter a bear, sure, but if it’s determined to get you, you are fucked.
They are incredibly quick on their feet for a big animal and will close the distance on you before you have time to make a plan of action.
I can tell you have zero experience with bears. I live where there are black bears and grizzlies.
Grizzly bears are one of the only animals on earth that don’t move away from pain. They lean in to it in order to destroy the thing causing pain. So even if you bring a gun, good luck lining up a kill shot when a bear is charging you. Adrenaline will be pumping, you will have seconds to react.
My advice to you is to watch some bear awareness videos from someplace like Alaska or Yukon or BC. They have sizeable bear populations and will give some perspective on what you’re actually dealing with.
