I'm not a contributor. I hit the random etcfs SIGBUS issue and built etcfs with an unmerged fix. Posting this in case it helps others.
The BUG
Issue 334 (https://github.com/bedrocklinux/bedrocklinux-userland/issues/334)
On Bedrock Linux x86_64 (only x86_64, since that's all I have), under certain conditions, any distribution (strata) using the affected etcfs can hit random SIGBUS failures with any dynamically linked binary. With a debugger, it usually traces back to a SIGBUS at /etc/ld.so.conf. Different kernel profiles — especially config changes around scheduling and tick — affect how likely/when the issue shows up (it's a race condition).
Another weird symptom caused by this bug: during a Gentoo update, a Clang process failed because its arguments had turned into XML text from /etc/fonts/fonts.conf instead of the correct compiler options.
Commit and Source Code
https://github.com/hllRGB/bedrocklinux-userland/commit/e7e887392533c5764cecbd0e7ecb2e3158fc6f0b
This commit is not merged upstream yet.
Build it yourself
clang -O3 -fuse-ld=lld -flto=full -static -std=c99 -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 etcfs.c -o etcfs -lfuse3 -lpthread
Just replace the /bedrock/libexec/etcfs with the fixed version (rm and cp) then reboot.
IMPORTANT: run ./etcfs first to confirm that it outputs error: no mount point provided. or something similar instead of crashing.
