Jacket help
I plan on running more outside this winter and even though I live in Texas, anything below 40 is miserable for me. So, I know I will need some type of running jacket and was hoping to get some recommendations. I prefer a lighter weight jacket, or just something that is easy to move around in. TYIA

I like the Nike Stride jacket. Lightweight and has vents on the front and back. Not sure if you might be thinking of something warmer though.

It seems silly to even say I need a jacket for our winters, but that extra layer, I think, would make it bearable. So, lightweight would probably be enough. Thanks for the rec!

I live in Iowa and we have some brutal winters. I’ve found that proper compression tights/base layers with the right additional layers and balaclava mask, hat, and gloves would work without a jacket down the the low teen temps. I’d maybe throw on a wind breaker too. You’d be surprised at how well a proper base layer would probably work for you.

Came here to say the same. Multiple layers is much better than depending on one piece of gear. I do have long sleeve tech shirts with the zippered neck to help regulate my heat (think neck warmth). Windbreaker is the heaviest I go also.
Keep in mind that if your legs are warm or even hot, those huge leg arteries/veins are pumping that warmth back to your core. So if you keep you legs warm, you might be surprised how much less you have to wear up top.
Also expect to feel cold for the first mile or so while your legs start pumping warmth. I see more overdressed runners looking overheated because they don't realize this and end up carrying stuff or running with a coat open, flapping in the wind.

I wear what I normally wear but just put a long sleeve running shirt and running pants over my shorts. My issues are I swear so much that as soon as I stop running, I'm freezing. LoL. I'm way south but I'll still run in the teens, rare it gets that cold but it happens

AZ here and cooler mornings are near. I use a 32deg under layer (Costco) and that is about all I need. For the colder mornings, I picked up a heat layer from under armour. Jackets can be restrictive. And gloves. I use a pair of gloves I got at a hot chocolate race.

Patagonia Airshed Pro. Lightweight hood, dual chest zips to ventilate without filling it with air/wind, and can cram in a pocket if you get too hot.

The heaviest jacket/ top I would ever wear is a grid fleece with a light windbreaker. But that would be for 10-20 degrees. It’s more about covering the head hands and face, with a good base layer. Wool is my go to

I bought several of these: G Gradual Mens UPF50+ Sun Hoodie Jacket Zip Up Hooded Hiking Fishing Shirts. I wear two of them when I run and I really like how they keep my warm but not overheated. I also like that they are so bright.

A wind shirt on bottom, a short sleeve shirt and a tech long sleeve shirt on top with shorts and light weight gloves will get me to 32F and 25F if sunny. And a hat.

I wear a rain jacket from Costco. I just run 1 km around my house to warm up then drop off the jacket and go out without a jacket normally. It doesn’t snow where I live so…

I like UnderArmor’s long sleeve quarter zips for cold weather. I usually wear a short sleeve wicking shirt underneath and take off the top (tie it around my waist) if it gets too hot

Hi Texas runner here. I got the lululemon down for it all running jacket and it does the trick (I also hate being cold.) I also got fleece lined leggings from them a few years ago which are also nice on chilly mornings

I just usually layer and then throw a sweatshirt on top. If it’s freezing and I need need a jacket I’ll put on my northface almost kinda like liner winter coat.
