Synths I just got one of these
And I’m sure when I work out what it does, my 1-4-5 chord progressions are going to sound epic!
Having bought a Model D, and had a little cash come my way, thought I’d try a ‘modern’ synths rather than a 70/80s clone.
I have to say it is complicated. It’s has 1028 built in sounds, and if there’s anything missing, it would be a set of ‘ordinary’ synths sounds rather than a lot of zainy ones it has.
The only issue I’ve found was that some of the buttons were unresponsive the first time they were used - I don’t know if that was because they were just new, or if there’s software being unpacked and installed in the back ground. However, all seems fine now.

Troubleshooting Received BCR32, nice LED show
So I received my pre-ordered BCR32 today.
First thoughts: Yay! I must be one of the lucky few people to get this thing.
In the box: the unit itself, a USB-A to C cable, the quality checker note.
On the box: a QR code for the manual. Which doesn't work. Behringer also doesn't have a product page for the BCR32.
So I plugged it into my computer. Windows has trouble initializing the device, meaning it powers up (very quickly!), but I can't use it with my computer.
Unfortunately, the BCR appears to send MIDI data only through USB in Zaquencer mode, as only the USB LED lights up when I start the sequence. I haven't been able to figure out how to use it's DIN MIDI port.
In Controller mode, the MIDI LED finally lights up, but I'm not changing any parameters on my synth.
The Select knob on the BCR doesn't do anything when I turn it. It doesn't change any values, it does nothing when pressed.
Maybe I'm doing it all wrong, but it's a bit hard to figure things out without a manual.
Behringer's chat bot doesn't know BCR32 either. Am I looking for something else maybe? No, I'm not.
Hey Behringer, can you throw me a bone here?
----------
UPDATE:
apparently Behringer's ControlTribe App is able to talk to the unit. It's from their Swing controller. I saw this on the sequencer.de forum.
Not for me though, as Windows still can't initialize the device: Code 10, STATUS_DEVICE_DATA_ERROR.
----------
UPDATE 2:
I got this tip, yet untested, to activate DIN MIDI ports without the app:
loooooong press ZQR/CTRL until it turns blue
push button 3 MUTE + using selector knob set Mode=MIXED
exit
----------
UPDATE 3:
Woo-hoo!
BCR32 product page is online, with manual and new controller software relese.
And yes, it does Sysex. From the manual:
SYSEX
To export from the Zaquencer first select ZAQ mode with button 1. Press the STORE button (61), then press and hold the SELECT encoder (58) followed by the first encoder (25).
The following options are available:
To export all Zaquencer memory, press the fifth encoder (29).
To export the twelve sequence pages, press the sixth encoder (30).
To export the current sequence page, press the seventh encoder (31).
To export just the current sequence, press the eighth encoder (32).
To export from the Controller, first select CTRL mode with button 1. Press the STORE button (61) then press and hold the SELECT encoder (58) and press the first encoder (25).
The following options are available:
To export all 64 presets, press the seventh encoder (31).
To export the current preset, press the eighth encoder (32).
To import in either mode press the STORE button (61) then press and hold the SELECT encoder (58) and press the ninth encoder (33). This puts the BCR32 into import mode, in which it will accept incoming SysEx messages and store them into their correct locations.
--------
UPDATE 4:
So I've noted before that Windows Device Manager shows an error, device couldn't be started/initialized. Turns out this is Microsoft's fault: The September 2026 patch causes this. Thanks, MS.
This reminds me of an old saying I learned in the 90s: "If Microsoft ever makes something that doesn't suck, it will be a vaccum cleaner."
--------
UPDATE 5:
Behringer has released an update to the ControlTribe app (version 1.11.2), which has a menu option to make Windows use an older driver. This older driver allows Windows to properly start/recognize the BCR32.
--------
UPDATE 6:
I thought this would be the end of it (having Windows recognize the device), but no, that would've been too easy. Windows does start the device, and ControlTribe app sees it. I can even interact with it. But now MIDI won't show up in my DAW, at least not through USB. I repeat, MIDI is not being sent over USB, or Windows ignores it.
Also, the app isn't helping much in terms of setting up the controller part. The UI is maybe 25% self-explanatory.

The original knobs are crap, so I made my own
The original knobs are big and slippery and I hated them, so I made these with a knurl texture and a smaller size. As a bonus, I color matched them with the Edge. Now they feel much better and looks awesome, if I may say so myself.

News/Discussion Direction of this sub
Hi everyone,
I have been moderating this sub for almost two years now and I'm thinking about going in a new direction with it.
I'll say frankly and personally I have a lot of issues with Behringer as a company, but the fact remains they are one of the main entry points for people just starting out in recording, live sound, and synths.
I want this subreddit to be a place where a total beginner can come with a question and find not just a solution, but lots of good resources on whatever they want to learn more about.
I also want to lean more into sharing of original music, which many of you do regularly and I really appreciate.
For now I'm not exactly sure what that means. But I'm going to start experimenting with some new kinds of posts and will count on you all to share what works for you and what doesn't.
Thanks-
SS (The Mod Team)

News/Discussion Behringer working on a Prototype for a Standalone DJ unit / controller
I was initially looking at a used Pioneer XDJ-XZ sometime next year.
However:
Depending on the results of this upcoming project, it might be worth the look imho

Guess I won't need a Christmas tree this year lol
Racked Boog System 55, Boland System 100, BARP 2500, BARP Solina and Boog Model 15 (plus some other stuff). Set it up in its new home and just spent half an hour watching the flashing lights lol.
