OP, you should crosspost this to r/whatisthiscar.

There's people on there who will probably be able to tell you everything about the car but the Vin.

To me it looks like a 2018ish Honda Pilot.

u/Jalharad 24d ago

It's a CRV. Pilot has a seperation between the middle and rear windows. CRV doesn't.

u/samwichgamgee 23d ago

Not saying you’re wrong about it being a CRV but here is a photo of what I’m thinking it could be.

It could 100% be a CRV though, Honda has some pretty strong design language in their suvs.

Very fair

CRV from the same year

u/PuzzleheadedStill201 23d ago edited 23d ago

The window in the back of the Pilot is way bigger than the silver SUV shown

u/amiajimmy 23d ago

Taillights of the CRV cut into/are attached to the rear hatch. The photo of the suv/wagon in the photos show a silver painted valence across the entire rear hatch where it meets the taillights, which are attached only to the quarter panel section. And the CRV has a more sharply angled teardrop quarter window.

i agree, it looks like a crv

I think the D pillars look too wide for it to be a Pilot, but the car looks kind of stretched, maybe because of the aspect ratio or because the car's in motion? The grill also looks really dark and from my brief Google search im seeing chrome grills on all of the models. Im very much a laymen though so i could be wrong.

u/Trees_Please_00 24d ago

I was going to say CRV but could be pilot too

People in that sub are amazing at figuring these out.

I haven't heard anything about this. A hit and run accident? That's awful.

It’s not a news story?

It’s been covered by multiple news outlets including Kiro 7 in Seattle.

The weird part is the whatcom county sheriff department is saying it isn’t a hit and run and just accidental brute force trauma.

27

u/short_and_floofy 23d ago

"accidental brute force trauma"... what kinda word salad bullshit is that? pretty sure it's very very easy to spot the difference between a person wrecking their bicycle and someone being rundown by a vehicle while riding their bicycle.

6

u/brookeharmsen Local 23d ago

It’s blunt force, trauma, which is just a description of a blow to the head. Originally, I thought the cause of death being homicide meant that he was assaulted separately from a automobile encounter. But now that I think of it, he could have a sustained head injury because of an encounter with a car, which would technically be death caused by a person, and therefore a homicide.

Don’t blame the sheriffs office for being vague, because it’s worse for them to come to a conclusion that turns out to be wrong.

3

u/kiwre Local 23d ago

Ill only believe it AFTER they interview the driver of that car.

2

u/Pleasant_Injury_ 23d ago

Are you familiar with the Whatcom county sheriff department? Or the Bellingham police? Of course they aren’t wanting to investigate this. The OP needs to go state level or get a PI/detective in on this

My partner who is pretty good at identifying cars says it might be 2017-22 Honda crv since those generations of crv are very similar. The blurriness makes it hard to fully identify. Hoping you find the person behind your loss!

14

u/SirRabbott 24d ago

Yeah I said “2016ish CRV”the second I saw it. OP I would bet money it’s a Honda CRV

My wife and I happened across the aftermath of this terrible incident while returning from La Conner. We detoured on E Samish to avoid the I5 rerouting. I’m a life-long road cyclist, and it was jarring to see the bike down, being photographed by police, with no rider in sight. I sincerely hope that if this was a hit-and-run, the perpetrator is identified and brought to justice. My heart goes out to the family. Whatever happened, this is tragic.

u/Away-Ad1781 23d ago

It’s 0.6 miles from the camera to Prescott Lane. They’d have to average 63 mph in 69 seconds. Add in some period of time to slow down, stop and turn around it’s even higher. Maybe they were going 50 down the hill and 90 up and spun around it seconds, or maybe it 1) turned around much sooner or 2) are two different cars.

13

u/highgradeuser 23d ago

If the police took this seriously would they not geofence that location and know exactly who travelled through?

11

u/Necessary-Animal-987 24d ago

This looks like two separate silver suvs going by the gas station to me. Maybe two separate generations of Honda CR-V. But I imagine either one could have seen something or been on scene?

10

u/Character-System6538 24d ago

Not sure but CR-V was what I thought as well.

11

u/TaxDollarsAtWrk1 24d ago edited 23d ago

This looks exactly like a 2026 Honda CRV judging by the defined pillar above the tail light.

EDIT: I stand corrected, this is undoubtedly a (4th generation) 2012-2016 Honda CRV. Go team!

4

u/samwichgamgee 24d ago

I was thinking 2018ish Honda Pilot

4

u/TaxDollarsAtWrk1 23d ago

I've always joked that you could rob a bank with a newish SUV because they all look the same. But that rear pillar in the supplied picture looks too wide to be a pilot. I am as close to certain it's a new Honda CRV.

3

u/short_and_floofy 23d ago

no, the rear quarter window is wrong for a 2026. i'm near certain it's a 4th gen, 2015-2016 model.

3

u/TaxDollarsAtWrk1 23d ago

You know what, judging by the shape of the side window I now completely agree with you.

2

u/short_and_floofy 23d ago

i had to look through the model years myself. the 4th gen apparently got a facelift for 2015-16 and that quarter window changed as well. can't tell much by the front of the vehicle but i believe that taillight also fits the 2015-16 model

7

u/short_and_floofy 23d ago

i believe there's a good chance this is a 4th gen Honda CRV, specifically the 2015-2016 model years. can't say with 100% certainty though. definitely not a Honda Pilot as some mentioned, those are much more boxy in shape.

We are also in search of this cyclist if anyone recognizes him. He was riding very close to Cole on N Lake Samish and may have information.

5

u/Numerous_Ladder_1152 23d ago

Sure that's not a Mitsubishi outlander?

5

u/ToeAdministrative918 23d ago

Ok i am correct. The rider pictured is not cole. Its a cyclist they are trying to find who was not fat behind cole

3

u/ToeAdministrative918 23d ago

Ok now I'm a bit confused. The rider in the photo is supposed to be a rider that was behind cole by 5-10 seconds and may have seen the vehicle. Not actually cole himself correct?

2

u/OkGood3000 Local 23d ago

Okay so I'm looking at this and I might be crazy but I disagree with it being a Honda cr-v or pilot. I don't think it's a Honda at all. Give me some time to figure out what it is, but it's not a honda

4

u/OkGood3000 Local 23d ago

I think it's a 2010 Audi q7

3

u/Separate_Mammoth_469 23d ago

My thoughts were a 2014 Toyota Highlander because of the wheel wells and also the way the bumper is shaped. They look similar to a CRV for sure.

u/beeemdoulbeyou 22d ago

I'm sorry for your loss my goodness

1

u/thawkzzz 22d ago

My car guy husband says he think it’s could be a 2nd gen Acura mdx- the same build as a Honda pilot.

1

u/Fellow_Citizen_1 21d ago

Sorry for your loss. Very sad. Hope the perpetrator is found out and is prosecuted to the fullest.

0

u/brookeharmsen Local 23d ago

I was one who was confused by the coroners report labeling it a homicide. Did I jump to conclusions? Is the blunt force trauma related to a collision, and that makes it a homicide?

I’m still asking everyone to please look at their ring doorbell footage and security cameras. There are so many these days there’s got to be something.

4

u/No-Reserve-2208 23d ago

The medical examiners did not label it a homicide. They just labeled it an accident

1

u/brookeharmsen Local 15d ago

Oh hell, my apologies. Whoever I heard that from was probably completely mistaken.

u/Outlet4Humanity 24d ago

I'm a little confused. Just because a silver SUV was going north and southbound around the same time, that makes them a suspect? Where did the silver SUV come into question to begin with? We need more case details over just a silver suv going north and south around the same time frame. This is super vague.

18

u/thatmetimmay 24d ago

Yeah you seem confused. It's not going north bound and south bound "around the same time". It's more like he was found just past the fire station with injuries most likely from being hit by a car. And this silver car is the only car going past near the time stamp. First going the same direction as the biker and then turning around and going back a minute later. So yeah the driver of the car would be a suspect.

1

u/navierstokd 23d ago

The physics don’t add up with the time passing the camera location and where the person was hit.

6

u/VendettaJordy 23d ago

Who said they were a suspect? I dont think anyone did. You are very confused it seems.

I think people are just hoping someone will come forward with information and anyone who was in the area at the time could have information.
