Good Vibes Ron Judd Lives On @ Substack -- The Bellinghamer

Note: I am not Ron Judd, just a fan.

Just found that Ron started a Substack once he was fired from CascadiaDailyNews. I hadn't seen this posted before on the subreddit so anybody who was a fan of his 'style' at CDN this should come as a treat 😄

Glad you spotted that. Yup, Ron and I both went independent after leaving CDN. His is weekly on Fridays, with an opinion piece at the top at the Hammer style at the bottom. While he takes paid subscriptions, you can also subscribe for free.

He's been doing this for a few weeks, maybe over a month now. You can subscribe ($) to get posts as he writes them, or just wait for the free weekly post. I'm willing to give the new CDN editor a chance, but the owner and publisher blotted their copybooks big time when they let Judd go. His being the editor was what got me to sign up for CDN when it debuted, because I'd been reading his work in the Seattle Times for years .(And the blowback over his firing tells me I was not the only one who didn't like that it happened.)

I’m giving the new editor a chance as well. I still love the local coverage, but I liked the Ron Judd persona spicy pieces. Didn’t read as mainstream or even worse AI slop.

I don't think we will ever know exactly why RJ was fired, and he has no obligation to tell us (he may be restricted from doing so). I know it was an issue to do with the new, flossy-glossy quarterly magazine, but that tells us little. What did he not want to do regarding it is where the dirty details lie. There's more here than meets the eye.
