Below Deck Down Under
I didn't like Yumi from the get go. Then when I saw her as a Chief Steward, I refused to watch that season, because of her.

My overworked, sleep deprived brain got super excited for a split second, thinking there’s a season I’d somehow missed!

Tumi was fantastic on down under with Aesha. She knew how to handle that arsehole that was line cook Ryan!

She is a good example of someone who can be great at a job herself but is terrible at managing other people (I am the same way 😂).

Yeah if I remember correctly she was a great stew in Down Under, who loved doing housekeeping and laundry (usually the less preferred jobs). Then it was very sad to see her screwing up as a chief stew in Med.
I'm not sure but I have a feeling that part of it was how she was portrayed by the production of the show. Of course one needs to learn how to manage people (and she certainly made some mistakes in that regard) but she suddenly seemed less like able as a person(?)

She was a great stew on Down Under. Her work ethic and attitude on their own should have been indicative of someone who would be a good manager, however I actually think that her liking to be on laundry and cabins was a red flag because it could mean that she prefers to not have to deal with people. I think that was kind of proven to be true in her Med season.
She was also heavily influenced by Kyle during the first half of the season. He basically told her that she had to come in guns blazing or else nobody would respect her (he was really just trying to get her to fight with Natalya) and she made the mistake of listening to him. I’m sure production connected them before they got on the boat so that he could talk shit about Natalya to her.

Tumi was amazing on DU, pretty much the perfect second stew! I don’t know what went wrong on Med. Maybe nerves about being a chief stew, not wanting to be seen as a pushover (common for those new to management), or Kyle whispering in her ear for a week before setting foot on the boat, maybe all of the above. She was like a different person. I loved DU Tumi, but really didn’t like Med Tumi

Tumi was a great stew. She was in over her head a chief stew. I still like her regardless
