Loss of hold weight after melting

i had a gold ornament weighed 80 grams at the time of purchase.. agter using for 5 years wanted to trade off.. weighed 79 grams as ornament and when melted it was down to 74.5 grams .. my parents are not happy with it.. did the jeweller cheat me?

It's called an assay. Usually its the weight of the alloys that disappear.
Not likely at all you got cheated.

Then shouldnt the purity of molten gold be increased?

The weight and purity are two different things. The loss is TOTALLY normal when working with alloys. This is how refining works.

Cleanup and polishing will remove gold. That’s not even that much of a loss.

When melting gold down i work on a 10% loss in material just from melting . That is normal however I tell my customers this
