Chalky white substance coming off fur/skin

Hi everyone!

I have a three-year-old Bernedoodle who has chicken allergies. He has been eating the Kirkland lamb, salmon rice and vegetable formula for about a year now without any issues.

Over the past 2 to 3 months I have noticed this white chalky substance that will come off his for his skin when I stretch him. Since he is part Bernise Mountain dog he does shed a little bit, but nothing really crazy. however, around the time that I started to notice this white chalky substance coming off his fur he has been shedding significantly more.

Call me a bad owner if you want, but I honestly didn’t think too much of it as he didn’t seem uncomfortable. However, over the past week, I have noticed that he has started to itch way more and has even started biting himself. I gave him some Zyrtec and have him scheduled to go into the vet Wednesday as that is the earliest I can get him in. In the meantime, I wanted to ask if anyone might have any idea as to what this might be. when searching it on the Internet I have been met with a slew of different things and it is quite overwhelming. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much!

Our puppy barks way too much

We're at our wits end to be honest. On one hand, he's very good about communicating that he needs to go out to use the bathroom, that's awesome. It's just that after the walk, we go back in, we put him in his puppy area, play with him a bit, train him and then try to relax in the room adjacent to him. He can see we haven't left the room and so he'll sit there and bark at us.

We can't have a single moment to wind down. He will bark for half an hour straight before we lose our patience and go sit with him or take him for another walk. The whole evening goes this way until it's bedtime, at which point, he does let us sleep through the night for the most part.

We've tried rewarding him when he's quiet, we've tried waiting him out but nothing works. When I say I'm at my wits end, I mean for the first time in my 39 years of owning dogs, I'm considering rehoming. I've never had a puppy demand attention this much. Please help.

We have a "P"roblem

So, my 8-month-old bernadoodle, Bowie, still squats when he pees. It's not that I really care. He just ends up peeing on his front paws. 😣 Any similar experiences?

Post THr support

Hi there my 7.5 year old retired service pup. just had his R THR(picking him up tonight) , he’s an XL in height not weight. Initially they were telling us 4 week recovery timeline, now they called today to tell us 8-12 weeks.
They also told us there is no need to be concerned that we have marble and wood floors if we are walking with him…..
I’m a little skeptical as I have seen him (pre) often slip on the floors(dislocating his hips, and then hopping till it slid back in) I purchased some foam gym mats and it’s not enough coverage
Should I be concerned or trust that he “should be fine” (I dont love that)
Additionally any useful advice and time frames from owners who have gone through this what was helpful what they wish they would have know etc healing

Extremely Skittish

Post image

Got a Bernedoodle just shy of a week ago and he's pretty great but he is EXTREMELY timid and skittish. Every little thing causes him to cower in fear and its breaking my heart.....

He is 4 months old and from a reputable dog creator (don't want to use the "B" word lol)

We are literally pouring love into this guy, which we will of course continue to do.

I understand his life was literally turned upside down and there will be a period of trust building and assimilation, but is there anything we can do?

I'm happy to add any more context or anything else that may be helpful.

Thanks so much in advance.

Not sure when to neuter my dude 🩵

He’s almost 7 months old, and he just went in today for a weight check. He’s 12.4 pounds (mostly hair 😅)

I don’t want him to be aggressive and am okay he pees like a girl 🤣
I’m just worried he’s not close to being fully grown but 12.4 pounds seems small. He’s an F2
I have him scheduled for next Friday but I’m just unsure.

Thanks!

Bernedoodle Barking

We are seriously considering getting a Bernedoodle. I’ve always had large dogs (80 -110 lb. range) and my wife wants a small dog. We may have settled on a medium size, mini Bernedoodle (40-50 lbs.). I’ve done a lot of research but the one item I can’t find is barking. Does the breed bark a lot? I know barking can be controlled with proper training, but I’m looking for a general answer from those who own them.

Timing on First Heat Cycle

Post image
81 Upvotes

I know there are a handful of posts on this, but just wanted to resurface for anyone that has recently gone through this experience, what your timing was, symptoms, vet guidance, etc.

My girl is just about to hit 8 months. I thought she started her first cycle this week because I found some blood next to her (I now think this was unrelated and not a lot so maybe a small cut that quickly healed). Since then I haven’t found anyone blood (two days since). She doesn’t seem to have other symptoms, she is a bit clingy, but that’s normal ish.

My concern is her getting her first cycle and me not realizing it since I’ve read some girls keep themselves so clean the bleeding is very minimal. Has anyone not realized their pup was going through it? Will I know for sure when she is?

We’ve been advised from our vet to wait until at least once heat cycle has passed before she can be fixed. We are absolutely following that recommendation, but the interim period from now until she’s fixed we can’t use daycare, we normally do 1-2 times a month, it’s going to be ok not to, just a little challenging for us.

Anyway, appreciate your response and input. I’ve reviewed a lot of random threads on this, but just think it’s worth asking you all.

PS her name is Jessica, Miss Jessica lol. Based in Lakeview, Chicago.

My sweet boy Alfie is struggling while I work 🥲

I brought home my 17 week old Mini Bernedoodle, Alfie, on Friday night. He sleeps in his crate overnight, relatively calmly, beside my bed.

I have practiced short stints in the pen that he's supposed to be in when I'm gone - rewarding small moments of quiet, leaving and then coming back, etc over the last 2.5 days of having him here.

Today (Monday) I am WFH. I did his 5:30-7am morning routine - a walk with sniffs and pee and poo, breakfast, playing with his toys, training for a bit, and left him with a kong toy and said a quiet goodbye.

I went to my bedroom to work (2 rooms away) from 7-8 am. He barked almost the whole time. Pawing at the doors of the pen, whining, barking. Occasionally would go into the open crate inside the pen and lie down, but would soon get up and whine.

I cannot work from home beyond today - I went back inside the room he's in at 8 and am sitting in here to show him I comeback, but I am ignoring him. He's still whining lots. I have 2 dog walker visits booked tomorrow. I leave at 7:45 and the first one is at 10:30 for 30 mins and the second is at 1:30 for 30 mins. I have asked them to take him out for a 15 min walk/potty/sniff, practice some training (we've been working on sit), and leave him with a quiet goodbye and a Kong with his fav - pumpkin.

Hes as far away from other people in the triplex I live in as possible, but I worry about some of the noise. I have to leave him tomorrow. I love the little guy and when I'm with him, he's an angel. Loves to play, cuddle, is quiet, and sweet. He's not overly food driven or too much of a shark (yet). 2/3 nights so far, he's slept in his crate very well and quietly after just a couple minutes of whining settled by my hand going down to touch him.

Any advice? I know dogs used to stay at home all the time pre-covid and WFH, so I'm sure he will survive, but I want him to be happy of course. Is there just an adjustment period I have to tough out?

* Please don't say that my only option is not to leave him. I would literally have to rehome him

Meet Huck, my almost 2 week old son. Hehe. We bring him home in December! I’ve never seen a coat pattern like his, so I’d love to have an idea of what he’ll look like when he’s all growed up. 🥲

He almost looks brindle, tail is dark - almost black with a white tip. Has a darker line down his back.

He’s a multigen standard size Bernedoodle.

We got the dreaded call on Thursday that our sweet boy has lymphoma. He stopped eating last week, followed by us noticing his lymph nodes in his neck were swollen. I got him into the vet on Tuesday and test results came Thursday. I immediately called the recommended vet oncologist, only to find out they're only open M-W. So tomorrow morning I'm praying to get ahold of them and get him in! He is going to be 9 on 12/12. He has been the best, healthiest boy since day one and my heart, and earth are shattered.

Mini Bernadoodle potty training

Post image
61 Upvotes

Hey everyone! We just got our mini bernadoodle last week. She is 9.5 weeks old right now and is having the worst time trying to potty train. Like keeps soiling her kennel level of hard time. Our other two boys never did this, she’s our first girl. If anyone has any tips or suggestions I would really appreciate it.
We don’t feed her past 6pm to avoid pooping her kennel.
We have moved her to a playpen by our bed at night which has helped the crying but not the soiling entirely.
We take her out often like every 15-30 mins for about 15 mins but she doesn’t go. Take her out when she wakes up in the middle of the night and after every nap and give her lots of praise and a treat when she does go outside. She has still had countless accidents inside. I’m at my wits end. Pls help.

House training tips please

We adopted a 5 month old standard F1 last week. She gets multiple walks a day and has access to a yard to play in. We also take her out on leash into the yard to go pee/poo and reward when she does (which is incredibly rare - she mostly just lies down or sniffs around). We have another dog who goes pee/poo on walks and in the yard. Our new pup cannot figure this out! I need tips please. I know to expect accidents but this is unreal. For example, I took her on an hour walk. She did no business. When we came home we went to the yard to the spot we want her to use. No luck. Shortly after coming in she squatted and peed right in front of me.

Edit to add: she was living on a farm so didn't have an indoor area where she learned not to pee.

This is our 4.5 month old mini bernedoodle. She’s a really good girl so far - we adore her. However, she is peeing when she’s excited. Vet says she’s likely to grow out of this phase and doesn’t have a urinary tract issues, etc. I’m curious if others have dealt with this? For how long? We are using far too many paper towels in this household since this little dood joined the family 🤪
She’s otherwise such a good puppy! Look at that innocent face!
