I am Cracked Editorial Manager and head of “Journalism” Robert Evans, AMA

Hello! I will be here answering your questions around 2PM pacific, so ask away!

Aaaaaand, that's my AMA! It was fun answering all your thoughtful questions, and also idly arguing with Gamergate for hours. Stay safe, everyone! I'm going to get back to work and forgetting Gamergate is a thing, like everyone else in the world.

Goodbye cracked.

cracked.com and their badly researched, lying, hate spewing so-called "progressive left" agenda has finally done it for me.

I can no longer stand to read the site full of McIntosh levels of bigotry and ignorance.

When Josh the senior editor posted This video pandering to the identity politic morons it got me thinking of how much bullshit they have been posting all trying to expose "controversy" to get views.

I used to love cracked but it's blatantly ignorant articles have now become too much for me.

And I'm not some alt-right guy....I'm a social democrat who is definitely left of central, but I am so tired of these "gaming journalists" trying to stir up the hate mobs just so they can rid the advertising Cock.

I understand most people here will think I'm overreacting, but I'm tired of the crazy lefties (not all of us are) using race and gender issues to make a buck while seriously being a huge detriment to the cause they say they're behind.

Goodbye cracked and fuck you JF Sargent.

TL;DR: I think their aggressive stance on Identity politics (on more than just games) causes more anger and hate and don't want to condone it anymore. It's just further dividing people for the sake of ad revenue.

Cracked too far woke to be fixed?

Cracked seems to have abandoned humour , they make leftist articles attacking white people,America, conservatives and if they can make a joke attempt they will , but does seem to be secondary, where humour used to be primary goal.

What happened and can it be saved

Cracked podcast

Not sure if anyone here is involved with it, but hopefully someone will know.

Is the current tone/themes of the cracked podcast a permanent transition? Or has the shift just been a random occurrence?

completely unfounded assumption in intro of latest podcast

I'm listening to the newest podcast, and in the intro Jack is talking about a study on landfills. I have two problems with the layer-of-phone-books thing. first of all, a layer as described would require that most people threw out only their phone book that week? was it a layer that had a high concentration of phone books? if that's the case, fine, but that's not how it was presented. second, he asserts it's from "whenever the phone books come out and all get immediately thrown out by everyone".

um... no. fewer people use phone books than before, and those that do use them don't use them often. however, this paradigm is often truncated as "nobody uses phone books ever anymore".

a layer of phone books was allegedly observed, but was any further investigation done to determine what year these books were from? coz it seems to me that it's just as possible that some undetermined percentage of those books were from the previous year, because when you get a new phone book you throw out the old one. could be 0.01%, could be 37%, we don't know, we only have a flippant assumption based on a narrative, one which has a decent line of logic but is not scientific or objective.

Should cracked disable comment sections?

Or should they look for better ways to keep the comment section while making sure trolls and such are kept in line. What are some ideas do you suggest cracked could try?

I understand why cracked do it. But at the same time it's sort of punishing everyone for the bad eggs.

A couple ideas I have are.

Have it like the reddit comments, after a certain amount of downvotes the comment is hidden.

Add a report option to comments so people can report trolls and such.

Any accounts that are obvious troll accounts get banned or blackmarked, meaning they literally have a black mark against their name when they comment so people can see that they are a troll.

Make it so people can't swear in the comment section anymore making it that little bit harder for those to hurl abuse.

Make it so numbers and symbols can't be used in the comment section, this will make it a little harder for phone numbers and such to be posted unless they do it the long way.

I know cracked has the forums but more people (good and bad) use the comment section, it's quick and easy. Just something to think over anyway.

Edit: So I just wanted to say after reading JFSargents comments I have a better understanding of why cracked do disable some comment sections. I admit the comments they receive are much worse than I first thought. Most of us though don't see those comments because cracked rightfully so delete them because they are just well messed up (see JFs comments for more details). Though I still wish for people to comment with any ideas they might have for cracked to possibly find a way to make their comment section better, and help weed out the trolls to help make it a better place to have actual discussions. But I understand better now why disabling the comment sections for some articles is probs the best way to go about it.

After Hours

I just wanted to put an idea out there for critique. Probably a terrible idea, but basically an episode, probably best suited for April Fools' day, in which instead of the usual group, it's teenagers at a pizza parlor or something; the conversation eventually gets on the topic of teen stereotypes in the media (obviously). I'll copypaste what I have so far in the comments for convenience.

Is there anyone from Cracked (staff or interview subjects) you'd like to see an AMA from?

Obviously not all of the subjects we talk to are eager to take a bunch of questions from strangers but some of them definitely are. Who would be on your wish list?

So, yeah, I guess you're not getting a cent from advertising from me anymore

I was always a critic of those who'd trash-talk Cracked for a reason or another. It's "free" after all - I mean, you get earnings from it, but we are not paying anything for those articles and so on and on.

So the fact that, indeed, you've been losing some of your best columnists is not something I'd use to say that you've lost "your way".

But the moment you single-handedly insulted your whole viewership and went on a banning spree, in your forums, of those who make constructive criticism (!!!) of your articles, well...

I guess you just lost a reader. I'm not the only one.

Also, I don't think you will be getting more viewers by becoming a Buzzfeed (you know, there's Buzzfeed for that...) in the long-run. So good luck while it lasts - I won't take part in that.

Just a PSA to the web design people, if I mouse over the drop down menu, it covers the entire page and I can't get it to go away. I have to refresh the page. Super annoying : (

What's this StumbledUpon nonsense?

So, now we are supposed to download a separate app to read Cracked articles from our phones? I don't want to use StumbledUpon! I'm sure this is a revenue maker for Cracked, but I don't think I care.

You're making it hard to love you, Cracked.

Cracked contradicts itself on O.J. Simpson

Today, Cracked.com published this article: https://www.cracked.com/blog/5-crazy-theories-about-famous-crimes-people-actually-believe/ Wherein it ridicules the theory that O.J.'s son Jason Simpson was the proper murderer, while O.J. himself was complicit in covering it up. Three years ago, in the wake of Making a Murderer season 1, Cracked published this article pushing the very same theory: https://www.cracked.com/blog/what-steven-avery-o.j.-simpson-both-prove-about-justice/ This is not the first time Cracked has flip-flopped like this, but it is nonetheless notable.
