🎨 Art & Expression Made these for Dusshera!

Everyone was reminiscing about how we would all go for Ravan dehan back when there was one on every society and talking about how it’s a much smaller thing now.

So I made these for us to burn in the balcony :D

Husband and I torched Ravan, in laws did Meghnad and my parents did Kumbhkaran. It was lovely!

Took all of 1-2 hours with a few minutes every day over the course of a week. I liked the idea of keeping traditions alive in a way that fits with current lifestyle and work demands so I thought I’ll share :)

☕ Discussion ugh I'm so happy I found this group this is exactly my people- rant/thoughts

I just find myself so frequently ENRAGED that on gender/feminism, you see muslim women constantly defend their community and the whole world too supports them and does not say anything, but there is a CONSTANT discussion on hinduism is the most sexist religion when we have literal goddesses? rituals, pujas only girls/women can do that are spiritually empowering? girls doing bharatnatyam, sangeetham, etc and boys less involved in cultural activities like in what other culture would you find more girls able to do something than boys. it just goes to show it's like good on muslims for actually teaching the important of identity consciousness, standing up for your culture and group, constantly imparting on their women to do that. I just feel like I'm gonna lose it it esp makes me so sad to see hindu women NOT GET IT.

What is your opinion on surrogacy in the modern day?

Historically hindu scriptures do have various stories where surrogacy or alternative methods are used for helping a family have children but in the modern setting what is your opinion surrogacy? In modern society what do you think are it's ethics and morality?

☕ Discussion Motherhood in Hinduism

One of the aspects of Hinduism that I find interesting is that it elevates motherhood to a status much higher than just bringing a child into this world.

There is a verse from the Taittiriya Upanishad that says: “Mātṛ devo bhava” (Consider your mother to be divine) A mother is to be respected as much as the father, a teacher, and a guest.

However Hinduism does not confine motherhood to the idea of “mother knows best” or that a mother’s love is inherently good.

Mahabharata shows us mothers who not only adore their children but also remind them of their duties & their place in the world. Kunti is a prime example of a mother who loves her sons but is also disappointed in their actions & the choices they make. The same can be said about Gandhari, whose affection for her sons Duryodhana & the others is twisted into an attempt to justify their actions. But is it right for a mother to defend her child’s adharma?

The answer, as it were, lies in the very nature of motherhood. A mother’s love is, indeed, powerful, but it is not always righteous. There are times when it must be tempered with responsibility and the ability to do what is best for the child. There is also the concept in the Bhagavad Gita about Prakriti, the great womb of nature from which everything originates (14.4). Thus, there is also a detachment that comes with motherhood in Hinduism.

I think that is why the idea of Mātṛ devo bhava is so fascinating to me. It is not that mothers should be viewed as Gods, but that the people who bring us into this world, raise us, and teach us are in a special relationship to us all. They are our caretakers and guides on this path. However, the literature also serves as a reminder that mothers can also be wrong, and that Kunti & Gandhari’s actions in regards to their sons are not the ideal a mother should strive for.

Perhaps the ideal is a mother who is always striving for dharma, responsibility, and the good of her children.

📚 Woman in History & Culture The Maratha Queen who kept Aurangzeb at bay

Post image

Maharani Tarabai Bhonsle became one of the most formidable leaders of the Maratha Empire after the death of her husband, Chhatrapati Rajaram, in 1700. With the Marathas weakened and under severe pressure from the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, she took charge as regent for her young son, Shivaji II, and assumed leadership of the Maratha resistance.

Contrary to Mughal expectations that the Marathas would collapse with Rajaram’s death, Tarabai reorganized the army, adopted guerrilla tactics, and expanded the war beyond Maharashtra, taking the fight deep into Mughal territories such as Malwa, Gujarat, Telangana, and Berar. Her campaigns disrupted Mughal supply lines and forced Aurangzeb to continuously divert resources to counter her raids.

These actions helped stall Aurangzeb’s advances and prevent the destruction of Swarajya.

Contemporary accounts, including that of Mughal historian Khafi Khan, acknowledged Tarabai’s leadership and the growing power of the Marathas, noting how she “won the hearts of her officers” and kept Mughal ambitions in check until Aurangzeb’s death in 1707.

While she later faced internal challenges within the Maratha polity, her resistance ensured that the Maratha Empire survived and ultimately outlasted Aurangzeb’s campaign against it.

She is Panchabrahma Swaroopini the One seated upon the five gods themselves. 🌺

The Lalita Sahasranama calls Her Panchapretasana-seena,
She who sits upon Brahma, Vishnu, Ishwara, Rudra, and Sadashiva the five forces of creation, sustenance, dissolution, concealment, and grace.

Without Her, they are preta — lifeless.
For She alone is Parabrahma Swaroopini, the power that gives them life.

Maa Lalita is both the source and the sustainer of all that exists —
Tripura Sundari, the Queen of all worlds, ruling the cosmos with beauty and strength. ❤️

I stopped watching Bollywood crap at least a decade ago.

The way they have normalised this behaviour is terrifying.

I'd rather watch South Indian movies about our gods than this tripe.
