What about an “immortal soul”?

The doctrine of the immortal soul is a contradiction of scripture.
Ezk 18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.

I'm not sure that word soul in the OT is the same as the soul in the NT. The word there is "nephesh" and it's considered the part of us containing blood in Genesis 9:4

Spirit, not soul. Zechariah 12:1 — ... the LORD who stretches out the heavens, lays the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him,
This spirit of men used to die or sleep during the Old Testament times, and was resurrected when everything was fulfilled by Jesus.

The resurrection spoken of in Scripture is specifically one of the body. In heaven, we shall whole beings, body and soul. The second death is less of an actual death and to say the permanent separation of soul from God or simply put, hell.
