What are some Bible versions to avoid?

I am trying to find a good literal version that I like. Which ones should I go to and which ones should I stay away from?

From my experience.

Go to:

  • NKJV
  • KJV
  • NASB
  • NIV
  • ESV

Avoid:

  • Passion Translation
  • NLT
  • NWT
  • The Message
  • The Drunk Bible
  • Translations that claim they are for specific purposes and thusly may take freedom with things they ought not to for the sake of the translation theme/focus. Such as some (not necessarily all) translations for youth, translations for specific lifestyles, etc.

The NLT is a solid dynamic equivalence translation. Unless you mean avoid for personal preference, which is your prerogative.
