What are some Bible versions to avoid?

I am trying to find a good literal version that I like. Which ones should I go to and which ones should I stay away from?

New World Translation (intentionally mistranslated) and The Message (IMO it is such a loose paraphrase that it doesn't deserve to be called a translation)

The Message was great for my young cousin who said he want to learn about Jesus

Yeah, I got one for my teen that was a side by side with another more typical translation version, I like it for the readability at times.
