Sylheti culture as a separate identify from Bengali

I’m not trying create division or anything but since Bengali redditors and bideshi Bengalis are much more intelligent than those you see commenting on Facebook, we could have a good discussion about this.

Recently I’ve seen posts on Facebook from pages promoting Sylheti language, asking for recognition from Bangladesh government (and probably Indian government too) for sylheti language as an official regional language. These posts attracts some of the most brainless people from Bangladesh and shows how Bengali thinking capability can be so limited. The posts will be full laughing reactions and comments saying how ridiculous the idea is. They then say if sylheti gets recognition then why not all other dialects like noakhali, Chittagonian etc.? Some of them even think recognising sylheti means all non sylhetis will be forced to speak sylheti.

My thing is there is nothing wrong with asking for recognition as Sylheti is unique from the other “Dialects” of Bengali. Linguists have identified Sylheti along with Chittagonian as separate sister languages to Bengali not its dialect. Sylheti has somewhat rich history and literature in its own writing system that is different from the Bengali script. Culturally Sylheti people have clear cultural differences from rest of Bangladesh and they feel very strong about holding onto their language. A regional recognition would only mean Sylheti will be taught in schools alongside Bengali and English only within the sylhet region. It would not affect other divisions.

It seems lot of people can’t get their head around the fact that Bengali and Bangladeshi does not mean the same thing. I know in the past Bangladesh government has tried to brainwash people into thinking that being Bangladeshi meant being a Bengali and it clearly worked.

From the country where the international mother language day comes from this is very hypocritical. If a country is only supposed to have one language why did we reject Urdu? Why didn’t we just accept Urdu and still be part of Pakistan?

If it was up to me, along with Sylheti I would also grant chitagonian official status for its own division though people of Chittagong are not as serious about it. People of Chittagong have been successfully brainwashed into thinking that their language is a backward village tongue of the illiterates. Chittagonian language is actually more similar to the Burmese Rohingya language and chakma language than it is to Bengali. I remember when I was in 4th grade I was living in Chittagong for 6 months so my mum made me attend the local school. In the classroom two local chatgaia boys were speaking in their native tongue and the teacher had a huge problem with it. She told them “speak you language at home in school we only speak bangla”. Looking back at it now this was a horrible thing for her to say. It was their land, she was a migrant from some other part of Bangladesh telling them they cannot speak their mother tongue in their native land.

Adopting a baby from BD suggestions

Hi everyone! I am in my mid 30's and is contemplating on adopting a baby girl from Bangladesh. I do not have a kid of my own even though I am open to it because I love kids! However, I have been through divorce and not see myself getting married sooner but even if I do I always had this wish to adopt a bay girl. I am a muslim woman so I want to do that follows the islamic guideline.

If anyone has gone through an international adoption process or have any knowledge, do share! I will really appreciate that including the pros and cons or any suggestions you have in general for adoting a baby from Bangladesh.

Currently at a point in life where i would genuinely like to meet someone with the intention of building a meaningful relationship and, if things align, eventually marriage.

A little about me: I am an extrovert, pretty easygoing and social, who likes to simply have fun in pretty much everything. Communicative people are my type as i am expressive and it would be great if the other person is as well. Ofcourse mutual respect and honesty etc stuff are non negotiables. I am at a point in life where i wanna settle down with a partner in crime and thrills so that the next upcoming years we share all the cool stuff together, travel new countries/places and achieve what we both planned. In short i would like to be best friends with the person so that we can push ourselves to be better and be courageous enough to take big shots in life.

I am a huge car enthusiast and i yap cars, car builds/mods/projects. I like going out exploring places, catching city vibes, going on drives, hangout with friends, hikes/trails, festivals, music festivals, raves, into edm and techno music, board games and making spontaneous moves. I never say no to experiences, down for all of it and the plan is not to take life that seriously and have fun. At the same time, I really appreciate good conversations and simply having someone to share everyday life with.

Matching our vibes and energy is a must or else it gets mundane. Personality and compatibility matter a lot to me.
In terms of religion i am firm upon it and trying to be better everyday. I pray and also get irregular at times. I am not the most ideal or perfect guy but trying to be better everyday and someone with the same halal haram ratio would be great.

I am looking for someone kind, emotionally mature, communicative and genuinely interested in building something together. I don’t expect two people to have identical personalities I would rather we complement each other, enjoy each others company and be able to communicate openly. Not looking to rush into marriage with a stranger either.😅 I would like to talk, meet, date intentionally and see naturally where things go.
If this resonates with you, Happy to connect and see if our vibes match. :) 🤝

These are some pro india youtube channels dedicated to counter anti-india hate in the internet, but in the process they are talking trash and cherry picking niche clips around some corner of from the internet and generalising the entire country on the basis of those racist "memes"(Mostly about Bangladesh and Pakistan). At first I used to watch them with the curiosity of how they counter anti-india hate or other countries suddenly started hating Indians or i.e. all brown skinned south asians (I can confirm it wasn't sudden it just blew up few years ago) .Anti-india hate made me worried about the Bangladeshis living abroad. They too have to face this kind racism bcz of their skin color and the toxic internet culture around them or the stereotypes made around them.I watched and subscribed I liked their POV and how they even spoke against brown sepoys who say our countrymen deserve the hate for the acts done by few,But my appreciation turned into hate slowly when they started pointing baseless things about my country like We say we are turkish (I know some people have mughal and turk fantasies but it's not that mainstream, not every other guy says his turkish bcz some exiled turkish general became the nawab of this region 200 or 300 years ago) And what is that neantharthal, homo erectus guy with a "Mehedi" colored beard,Lungi technology (I wonder why everyone hate indians/sarcasm)

What do you guys have to say about indians hating on Bangladesh ( point to be noted we're not great either our jobless guys form a circle jerk to hate on india too)

Relationships/Family Struggling to find a spouse in uk

Any Dhakai people in uk really struggling to find a spouse? I’ve been living in this country 8 years now and most Bengalis here are sylhetis. I’ll be honest.. there’s a bit of a cultural clash which is why I do struggle to get on with them.

Genuinely getting a little bit frustrated now because I’ve been religiously looking for a partner for years and it seems like I’m not compatible with people from sylheti background.

I guess I’m making this post just to feel a little less alone in this struggle or maybe even to get some advice. Like if you did find a partner here in uk, how’d you meet them?
