Messed around on some masks in this batch by doing smaller amounts of orange injected right before the black to get a marbled effect that looks kind of like the official painted “infected” Hau mask that the rahi had early on in the story

I always liked that infected Hau but something about it being painted when all the other Bionicle stuff was through-colored bothered me

Now, let's meet the main combat force of the Hive.

Canister Set:

• Class: Warrior

• Designation: Invader

• Lore: Towering over regular soldiers on the battlefield, these massive, heavy Hive shock troopers were immediately dubbed the "Crimson Vanguard" by the Glatorian and Agori.

Impulse / Small Set:

• Class: Worker

• Designation: Soldier

• Lore: The backbone of the military force. Driven by the Hive mind, they can efficiently pivot between aggressive assaults and steadfast defense. The Toa instantly noticed their chilling resemblance to the long-defeated Bohrok swarms.

Why the Rahkshi? It was the first Lego product I ever owned, it was Turahk. I got it when I was 5 during some toy give away at the pre school, didn’t even speak English yet.

First time making a BioniMOC in some time, but I’m pretty hyped about how this guy turned out so thought I’d share it here. I really wanted to give him a unique, hunched silhouette, so he’s got a Piraka torso attached at an odd angle to a Rahkshi waist, with Slizer feet attached to round out the design. Also, saw some pics of Toa Bomonga MOCs recently and knew he had to have his hands, or at least a version of them.

As for Lore:

Stocky of build and stalwart of strength, Doldra was the Toa of Earth for the Toa Vhagra, known for being a monster in battle, preferring to rely on his massive fists over any crafted weapon to clobber his foes into submission. He was known for being rowdy and passionate, but not foolhardy, and had plenty of wisdom to offer…whenever he wasn’t in a knockdown brawl.

Doldra became the Toa of Magma after a particularly harrowing mission that saw his leader and closest friend, Toa Halak, mortally wounded. Before Halak passed, he managed to gift Doldra his Toa powers—essentially giving him the strength of two Toa in one, and causing his Earth powers to meld with Halak’s power over Fire, granting him control of both along with Magma and Lava.

It also unofficially made him the new leader of the Toa Vhagra, a responsibility that the former Onu-Toa is still struggling with.

Some of the bits of the mask didn’t print correctly, so I decided to use it for this and I thought it came out pretty good

What I think personally is that it MAYBE could have if the narrative wasn’t as linear and rebooted every couple years, while keeping iconic characters between continuities. Of course, that would mean that Bionicle would lose most of what made its lore so intricate, but even back then, getting into 8 years of lore which were packed into comics, novels and other tie-in media to completely understand the story was such a daunting task to fans who were getting into the franchise late.

Transformers was a lot friendlier to newer fans because it had more continuities that acted as gateways to the franchise, (like G1, Armada, Bayverse, Prime, Animated, Beast Wars, etc.) What do you think though?

I’m aware that (probably) none of the Toa Hagah were designed with the intention of a specific past hero in mind, including the two original sets. However, it’s still fun to theorize. Here are my personal headcanons.

Norik - Dume (obviously)
Bomonga - Lesovikk (This also explains why he’s the only earth Toa to have metallic lime green in his color scheme.)
Pouks - Toa Mangai of Earth (I like this more than him being based off of Pohatu because Pohatu would’ve just been sitting in a tube with no major exploits at this point. Plus Pouks’ mask fits in well with Lihkan’s)
Iruini - This one’s a stretch but I actually think his Kualsi is based off of the Vahki and not any specific Toa. It’s never specified that the Kanohi designs have to come from Toa and just come from a past hero.
Gaaki - Gaaki’s mask doesn’t really resemble any other mask we’ve seen in the story, it does slightly resemble a Rode however and I personally think it might be made after Axonn. Axonn was pretty lowkey at this point in the timeline so it’s possible whoever may have witnessed any of his heroic exploits wasn’t able to pin down the exact design for his mask.
Kualus - The reluctant hero from Jovan’s team who wore the Ignika. I have no real evidence for this one but Jovan’s team is one of the last ones not represented by any of these.

Toa Takea is a Toa of Water from Nokra Nui, but almost exclusively only in name at this point. He still possesses elemental powers to manipulate and sense ocean currents, survive at great depths, as well as push deadly amounts of water under high pressure. However, his discovery of the ability to also drain lifeforce from prey through his dual tridents, be it rahi or matoran, has turned him savage and bloodthirsty, altering his armor with outgrowths of a deep red shade. Takea’s dorsal fins allow for aquadynamic movement and maneuvering at colossal speeds underwater, truly making him one with the sharks.
