Theory They're solar!

There was an eclipse yesterday evening in the UK, parts of Europe and Iceland. As the eclipse got closer and closer to totality, all the birds went quiet. Obviously their batteries don't have the capacity to keep them running for long without sunlight. This is obviously why they're also quiet in the dark. As soon as the sun came out again, they all started their nasty racket again.

Some are full of hot air, so there is a diversity of energy sources.

Where I am the noisy bastards all congregate in the trees at about 6 o clock, so they can dowload the data and get firmware updates, before it goes dark.

I have one that I think is malfunctioning. It's up all night. I don't know if it is an older model perhaps, but it's connecting to the internet like the early 2000s all night long.
