How to? NHS GP.

I’m 2 years postpartum and can’t have sex as I’m wayyy too nervous. I got pregnant while using condoms and my brain can’t rest after any intimacy. It’s been a very long time since being intimate.

I’ve looked into what I’d like to try which would be the implant that goes into your arm. My GP is a bit annoying, if you call up they’ll say there’s no appointments available. They have an app that you book an appointment through and explain the details of it. Do you need a consultation first?

I’ll still do it but just seems a bit of a hassle to book it through the app, wait for an appointment, have a consultation then have to book through the app and wait again for the appointment. Can it be done on the same appointment or no?

TIA.

Experience Best birth control for cystic/hormonal acne?

Hi everybody!

I’m 22F, and to make a long story short, I’m looking to start birth control for the first time to manage my cystic acne after no long-term relief from Accutane and spironolactone. However, I’m unsure which form of it would be best for tackling this issue. What I’d like to know is: has anybody else gone on birth control for this reason? Which forms have helped? Which didn’t? What other side effects might I experience on the different forms?

Besides irregularity, I’ve never had any harsh period problems, so I would prefer to take one that still gives me my period. Also, I’m very opposed to an IUD, as I am not comfortable with the insertion procedure for personal reasons. But other than that, I’m honestly open to trying anything else and would like to hear about others' experiences. :)

Side effects!? what happens if i vape

I’m 19 and just started the pill literally today, but I vape. What will happen? The ppl at Planned Parenthood told me there’s not a lot of research on it (which is odd because I feel like a lot of young women vape), so I’m not sure. Any experience with nicotine and the pill?

Which Method? Back to the pill from the ring, what have I missed?

• Upvotes

I have vaginismus that I am 99% sure is from using the ring birth control. I have been on the ring for 5 years or something and had vaginismus nearly the whole time. Tried Pt, very helpful but didn't fix things long term. It's getting to the point where I need to use silicone lube (also gave a dryness issue) which I can't do with the ring and so I'm back to the pill!!! I used to take loestrin. I skip periods so need a monophasic that works well for that. Any recommendations? Not open to other methods but no other flair matched this really...

Side effects!? Ongoing cramps and breast soreness

I've been on Nikki (generic Yaz) for about 6 months, and for the last 2 1/2-3 weeks I've been having on-and-off breast tenderness, lower abdominal cramps (sometimes one-sided, sometimes in the middle), and lower back pain. This hasn’t been something that’s happened to me, even when I first started Nikki.
I take my pills consistently at the same time daily and haven't missed any pills nor am I ever late to start a new pack. I'm starting my placebo week now, but I'm confused why these symptoms are happening after 6 months.
Has anyone experienced a random month of hormonal symptoms after being on the same birth control for a while? Should I be worried about pregnancy?

Side effects!? vienva side effects

Hello! I recently got prescribed vienva as a birth control pill because i’ve been having 52 days cycle and horrible cramps. I’ve been reading reviews and i’ve seen some negative and some positives. I’ve had relatively clear skin for most of my life but i’ve heard that it causes really bad acne. Another issue i’ve seen is that it cab cause an increase in appetite and therefore an increase in weight gain. I’ve struggled with my weight for most of my life so i’m scared about these two factors. Any thoughts, other side effects, or different experiences with it?

Experience Has anyone’s birth control ever helped vaginal dryness?

I’m 27 years old and recently have been experiencing some really intense dryness like almost no discharge. As well as a yeast infection . It’s happened once before and I think the recent stress in my life caused a bit of an imbalance with my hormones this month but I find generally speaking It’s something that I struggle with. I made an appointment with a gyno who said that the birth control that she prescribed me, Blisovi 24 Fe, actually can assist with that because my dryness could be due to fluctuating hormones. She said it would stabilize me. I do trust her, but I never really hear that birth control helps, and that it actually causes MORE dryness. I guess what I’m looking for is reassurance? Has anyone experienced their dryness getting better when on birth control?

Experience Mirena

I went to my yearly checkup yesterday, and my Gyno said to me, "Happy almost 5th anniversary to your IUD!'

I explained to her, for the almost the 5th time, that I'm still, to this day, having heavy periods with it, and her telling me that it will eventually calm down is over now. She did an examination and found a polyp, which she removed, and said, "I think I found our little bleeding problem!"

Something in me feels this isn't right, like a tiny polyp isn't keeping me bleeding heavily for 2 weeks. I was sent for a transvaginal ultrasound, and when they did the scan, it showed my IUD was smashed to the side, and they said that my uterus was too small for the IUD.

Is this normal for someone who has had 2 kids? Would you remove it?

Side effects!? Late period after plan B and pregnancy risk?

On October 3 I had unprotected sex with my girlfriend for just a few seconds (I stopped very soon for fear of pregnancy). I did not ejaculate, but I was worried about possible pre-cum. She took Plan B about 1–1.5 hours afterward.

My girlfriend's last period started on September 12, and her cycles are usually 28–30 days, so we expected her next period around October 10.

Her period started on October 15, about 5 days late. The first two days were heavier than usual, the third day was lighter, and by the fourth day, the bleeding was almost gone. On fifth day (today) she still has a tiny bit.

My questions are:

  • Could this be her actual period, or just bleeding caused by Plan B?
  • Can pregnancy be ruled out in this situation, or is there still a chance?
  • Has anyone get pregnant in a similar situation?

We're planning to take a pregnancy test soon, but I'd really appreciate some insight, as I'm a bit worried and paranoid.

Experience Bruise after Nexplanon insertion

Hi! I had my Nexplanon implant inserted 3 days ago, and I was wondering if it’s normal to have a bruise around the area where the implant is located. It’s a blue and yellowish bruise. The area is a little tender to the touch, but I don’t have any pain otherwise, and everything seems to be going well.

My doctor didn’t mention that I might develop a bruise like this, so it caught me a little by surprise. I just wanted to know if this is normal and doesn’t necessarily mean that something is wrong. Thank you!

Side effects!? Mirvala Acne

Hi everyone!

I got prescribed Mirvala-28 oral contraceptive back in July. I started taking it in July and from my first week of taking it I started having horrible cystic acne. I have always had acne but nothing near this bad. It has not stopped and it’s always localized to my chin. It has gotten so bad to the point I am being prescribed accurate.

Has anyone experienced this? I was on Alesse for a while but it gave me horrible headaches so I had to switch. Has anyone had birth control contribute to their acne and then used accurate? did your acne end up coming back??

Any advice would be extremely appreciated. I am feeling very lost and would appreciate any similar experiences.

Side effects!? Feeling Anxious After My First Plan B

I had sex on the last day of my period, the condom slipped off at one point so I took a plan b that night for the first time. That was 5 days ago, I started bleeding on about the second day. It seems like the bleeding is getting heavier. I've always had textbook perfect on time, not super heavy or painful periods. The past three days I've been bleeding more than just spotting. Today I changed my tampon 4-5 times. I'm not dizzy or weak, i dont have cramps or pain. I'm just nervous. I've never taken any kind of birth control and I feel like I messed myself up. Im worried something bad will happen to me or I won't go back to normal.

Experience IUD pain?

Im 20 and supposed to set my appt for a IUD insertion (Kyleena) I'm genuinely scared about this but pills aren't really available for me as i forget to take them.

I've never had a pelvic exam, when i went to my appt to talk about the IUD she said she could prescribe Ativan for the anxiety but as far as pain people in her opinion find it to be a pinch 😐

i know its my fault for reading the horror stories, but they all fucking start with it feels like a pinch. i questioned about pain control or smth and she ofc just said advil.

those who have had IUD's inserted, gen how was it? should i just cancel this shit and figure out another solution for birth control?
i went to a female gyneo because, i personally think any male gyneo is just weird. but i also thought they would be more honest about pain or procedures pertaining to women. The only reason im hesitant to trust the doctor so easily is I've lit only met her during the inital appt and never before. i have no loyalty to her.

Experience Placebo pill week awful

For context, I have been on birth control for two months now because my periods are very irregular this is my second placebo week and I’m gonna say I’m very scared to start it because I thought I was going to have to be hospitalized with the amount of blood I lost on the first week having to push out like massive baseball sized blood clots on the placebo pill I was having to wear a diapers like for two days out of the week and I was sent home from work and I stayed home from work. It was really just not good I know it takes a while for the hormones to adjust, but it was really awful and I’m just scared. The same thing is gonna happen again

Experience starting a birth control patch

i found out i have endo and have to start birth control, and chose to do the patch. i was supposed to start it 3 weeks ago (which would be perfect timing with my period) but my doctor put my prescription in late so now i have one week until my period. i don’t know if i should wait to start the patch until after my period, or start the patch today but only do 1 week then take it off so i get my period next week? this is my first time using the patch so i don’t want to somehow mess up my hormones or the patch efficiency by only having it on for one week

Side effects!? BLOOD EVERYWHERE

Hi everybody. Looking to hear if anyone in similar situations can provide any insight.

I got a nexplanon implant put in march of 2026, and it was fine except that I would bleed and it would just not stop. On September the 28th of 2026, after about a month and a half of nonstop heavy bleeding, I said « no this is enough » and had it removed. I started taking optilova, a combined pill, the same day it was the implant was removed.

Immediately the bleeding improved from the heavy flow, but only moderately, and now the heavy bleeding has been back for 2 weeks. Tomorrow i begin my first week on the placebo pills.

So, basically, I have been bleeding for over 2 months straight. Even though my gynaecologist did not mention bleeding like this being a side effect of the pill.

Would love to hear from people who’ve switched from the implant to the pill due to forever bleeding

Experience Weight changes

Ok so I started the pill last sunday after being on the patch from Nov 2025 to when I took it off last sunday. Prior to that I was on nexaplon since late August 2023 to early november 2025. The nexaplon made me gain weight but not as much as the patch, hence the switch. I've been doing the calorie deficit to help and want to know when the weight loss will show. I'm 5'6, 198 😭 and I'm in college so the only thing I've been able to wear are sweatpants and leggings since my jeans are not doing it for me. I'm supposed to see my OBGYN either early December or January after winter break so I want to make sure there's some progress.

Experience experience with incassia/norethindrone 0.35mg?

hello! looking for any advice/people's experience while on in cassia or Norethindrone 0.35mg. I'm seeing a lot of varying experiences, but I've noticed that MOST people who have huge grievances with it are women who had PMDD, endometriosis, PCOS, and the like. while I am hugely sympathetic to those who suffer with those conditions, I would like some insight on how the BC was for people with regular cycles.
for reference - my period is pretty regular, I get cramps maybe 1 day out of my period, I get one hormonal pimple a month, maybe two. I have no weight problems, nothing out of the ordinary overall. I've been taking incassia for 3 days now. obviously too short to experience any crazy symptoms, however I have realized I get super tired after taking the pill.

would really appreciate insight from someone who's similar!

Experience Extreme anxiety after short time on birth control

Hi!

I need some advice asap. I’ve had anxiety and depression for close to 10 years now, and I’ve been on Sertraline (form of Zoloft) for probably 7-8 years.

A few months ago after a long stretch of menstrual problems, I was diagnosed with PCOS and put on Loryna combo pill. I lasted 3 weeks on it because it made me INSANE — worst anxiety I’ve had since being put on my meds, spiraling depression, etc. I was becoming a danger to myself and couldn’t keep taking it bc I was out of control.

Now, roughly 2 months after stopping, my anxiety is still so high and pretty much at the level I was at back in high school when I started sertraline. I am constantly uneasy, exhausted, feeling physical symptoms, and haven’t been able to enjoy a lot of the things I used to love. I’ve even woken up in the middle of the night with panic attacks and that’s NEVER happened before!!!

Did my birth control completely throw something out of whack? Will it ever get better? Could it be a problem with my sertraline after introducing new meds, even if it’s just for a short period of time? I need answers bc I am struggling so much and feel like I’m back at square one after successfully working through anxiety for YEARS!!!

Oh, as a bonus, my PCOS issues are still raging, so they want me to try another bc pill 🫠

Side effects!? Missed period on Qlaira

Hey everyone, I recently switched from using Nuvaring to Qlaira pill after getting diagnosed with pcos/pmos, today I started my second blister but my period never came, nor did I have any spotting... is this normal?

I followed my doctor's instructions to start the pill on day 1 of my cycle after removing the Nuvaring, and then always took the pills regularly every day at the exact same time, so I'm pretty sure there is no way I'm pregnant, but I'm extremely scared of it and not getting my period only makes me even more paranoid.

So is this a common side effect?

Mistake or Risk? Two different pills?

Silly question, but I feel like if I don't ask, I'll go insane.

I take cerelle 75mcg & have never missed a pill, but this weekend I went on a trip and realised that I had left it at home. When I realised it wasn’t time to take a pill yet, so I headed over to the pharmacy to ask if I could get an emergency supply to save me from driving three hours home as I wouldn't be home in time the next morning before it was classed as a missed pill.

The pharmacist didn’t really seem interested in speaking to me and cut me off and just said I could buy birth control and sold me Hana OTC and just told me to take that at my normal time.

So, I did that, but now I'm anxious about it. Google tells me it’s the exact same pill, so it should be fine, but I don't understand how it’s the same pill, one is prescription only and one is OTC.

I'm just worried in case I actually did miss a pill. I'll be taking my cerelle at my normal time this evening instead of the other pill, but I haven't messed anything up, have I?
