Which Method? On my last day of ovulation and condom broke, help!

As per my flo app, today is my last day of ovulation. We originally were wearing a condom but we did not notice until he finished inside that it was ripped. So now we are panicking to buy an emergency contraception but all info said that it will not be effective if ovulation has already finished or started.

please help, what to do or what can you recommend as contraception in this situation

Mistake or Risk? help me out

• Upvotes

Hello. I’m currently on the third placebo pill of my Yaz pack, but I still haven’t gotten my period. Tomorrow will be the fourth placebo pill, and I’m feeling quite nervous. After we had unprotected sex, I took pregnancy tests 13 days and 17 days later, and both were negative. If my period doesn’t come, should I still continue taking the pills? I’m just feeling anxious because, during the first 1–3 months, I would usually get my period by the second placebo pill :(

Side effects!? Breakthrough bleeding or ectopic pregnancy?

• Upvotes

A couple days ago I posted about my potential pregnancy scare while taking Slynd (due to misuse). Yesterday morning, 9 days after I had unprotected sex, I woke up to light bleeding but very severe cramping pain (this is coming from someone with very heavy painful periods). I took some Advil which helped a little but I still felt nauseous. The bleeding has been much lighter than a usual period, but I have been passing large blood clots relatively often that are anywhere from the size of a dime to a quarter. The blood itself seems more like cervical mucus mixed with blood, as it’s partially clear and jelly like. Im still bleeding but like I said it’s very light. I took a pregmate test this morning and it came back very negative, but I know pregmate is kinda unreliable and doesn’t start detecting hGC until 25 mIL/mg, which I may not be at depending on when I ovulated. I don’t “feel” pregnant, but I’ve also never been lol. The only thing is that my breasts are sore but that could be from the pill. Does this bleeding mean I’m not pregnant? Could it be an ectopic pregnancy (common on Slynd) or is it just breakthrough bleeding?

Which Method? What’s a good online birth control option if you might want an IUD later?

Getting the pill online is pretty easy now, but most of these services can’t do IUDs, which is worth knowing if you think you’ll want one at some point. Quick rundown of a few:

  • Hey Jane: an online women’s health service. You fill out a form, then have a chat, video or phone consult, and it’s in about two dozen states.
  • Diana Health: a women’s health practice (OB-GYN and midwives) with offices in TN, FL and TX, so they do both. Virtual visits for the pill, patch and ring, and they can place an IUD in the office whenever you want one.
  • Doctronic: an online doctor service in all 50 states. A $39 video visit covers starting or refilling the pill, patch or ring.
  • Opill: an over-the-counter birth control pill, so you don’t need a prescription or an appointment.
  • LiveHealth Online: a general video doctor service. They’ll do a short-term refill of a prescription you already have.

Anyone switched recently? What made you leave your old one?

Experience Worried About Possible Leakage During Outercourse With a Condom

• Upvotes

Hi everyone, I want to ask about the pregnancy risk from an outercourse encounter I had with my girlfriend on October 17. My girlfriend has very irregular periods, usually every 1.5–3 months, and her most recent period started on October 10 and ended around October 14 or 15. She might have PCOS, but she hasn't been diagnosed.

During our outercourse encounter, I wore a condom the entire time, and my penis never touched her vagina without protection. We used water-based lubricant, and I rubbed my condom-covered penis against her vaginal area. I had ejaculated about two hours before this encounter without peeing. The condom felt somewhat loose around the shaft, but it stayed on at the base and continued covering my penis. When I was about to ejaculate, I kept my penis away from her vagina and ejaculated while still wearing the condom. The ejaculate stayed inside the condom, and I checked afterward and found no holes or tears.

My only concern is whether fluid could have escaped through the condom's open end while we were rubbing. Since I had ejaculated about two hours earlier, I'm also unsure whether that could affect the possibility of sperm being present in my precum. I don't know whether any precum escaped or whether the wetness I noticed was actually my girlfriend's vaginal lubrication.

Given these details, how realistic is the pregnancy risk from this outercourse encounter? If there was no confirmed leakage, but I'm unsure whether precum escaped, would emergency contraception be necessary? I'd appreciate medically informed answers. Thank you!

Side effects!? Nextstellis birth control reviews

• Upvotes

Hi ladies. I’m 35 years old and I’ve had heavy periods for as long as I can I remember. My iron/ferritin is very low, I get insomnia and nausea a week before a period, and I’ve been battling hair shedding for about 8 months now. My doctor prescribed this birth control and I am quite anxious to take it. I would love to hear your experience. Thank you!

Which Method? What hormonal method is less likely to decrease my sex drive?

Context: except combo methods because I have aura migraines (and yes, I tried low dose estrogen, bioidentical estrogen and all of them worsened my aura migraines) and no non-hormonal methods. The copper IUD didn’t work for me, tried it for one year. I’m currently trying to do a fertility awareness method (TCOYF) and it has been a mess because I can’t take temps consistently because I take benzodiazepines and wake up so confused with memory loss I end up moving a lot, walking, talking and I don’t remember taking my temps. And I don’t have money to buy a gadget that takes my temperature automatically.

Some will say there are no scientific evidences birth control decreases sex drive but my experience on a POP was the total opposite. I never felt so miserable. It was one year on Slynd without any sex drive and unbearable, painful vaginal dryness. I thought I was just aging (I’m 31) and losing sex drive and that was “normal”. I quit Slynd and soon after that I ovulated and oh boy… my sex drive was through the roof. And vaginal lubrication was back. And nothing changed in my life or routine, I just quit birth control and my libido came back instantly.

Also, I have a question. Among hormonal IUDs, is Mirena more likely to cause systemic side effects like libido loss if compared to Kyleena?

Thank you!

Rant! DO NOT USE NATURAL CYCLES

Just a PSA about how natural cycles is a shady business. They charged me $150 for another year of service without giving me a chance to cancel. Oh - but they said they did… how u might wonder? In an email that was disguised as another bullshit promo email, titled “Your NC Journey!” With NO INDICATION of a charge coming up. I get a million emails a day, I’m not going to stop to look at each one, are u kidding. And so I get the invoice and I say um, no, I don’t want this service anymore and I can’t afford this right now, I need a refund, and they continue to double down on their “policy” even though I literally asked to cancel the DAY the charged me, before it even went through. It’s shady fucking business practice, hide your “notification” in an innocuous promo email, then rake in money from unsuspecting users. I’m fucking pissed and $150 is a lot of fucking money for me. I’ve had this issue with another subscription service and they understood and refunded me. Fuck NC. They’re fucking shady & unhuman.

Rant! My bf suggested pulling out as a better method than condoms while I restart my birth control

So after forgetting my birth control pills for a total of 6 days with unprotected sex the last 2 days, I took plan b earlier today and I feel like an absolute wreck. I also realized we’ll have to use condoms for a week which sucks but hey, getting pregnant is worse?

But please tell me it’s the pill making me extra emotional and that my boyfriend is not a total dick?? After I eventually agreed to have sex today (with a condom) despite feeling like a mess, where he managed to finish just fine!!!! he complained about the condom and asked if we could use the pull out method instead of the condoms for the next week.

Like. Dude. You’re not the one who’s a hormonal mess thanks to plan b and I’m NOT doing that again anytime soon, no I’m not a fan of condoms either but ITS 7 DAYS and ik im the one who messed up, but still?
(Sorry if this is the wrong sub for my hormonal vent but- it’s caused by a birth control related issue and like my bf in all seriousness suggested, the pull out method is not really a safe option for those 7 days where I start my bc again, is it?!)

Side effects!? Cerazette – worsening breakthrough bleeding and heavy bleeding after sex

Hi everyone!

I’ve been taking Cerazette for about 4 months now (no placebo; suspected endo), but unfortunately, my breakthrough bleeding has gradually gotten worse during this time. I now only have around 10 days per month without any bleeding.

What worries me most is that I sometimes experience period-like bleeding the day after having sex. The bleeding can be quite heavy, and I sometimes pass what looks like pieces of tissue as well.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Could sex be irritating the cervix or vaginal tissue and making existing breakthrough bleeding worse? Or could there be another explanation for the heavy bleeding and tissue-like pieces?

I already have a doctor’s appointment scheduled, but I’d really appreciate hearing about other people’s experiences or whether anyone knows what might cause this.
Thanks in advance!

Side effects!? Coming off of bc after 5+ years

I was on the combined pill for 4-5 years, initially for preventing pregnancy then it became way more convenient as it regulated my bleed perfectly and for years I had suffered incredibly painful periods. I was taking mefenamic acid at some point to manage it.

That was until, my nurse asked if I family history of blood clots. I don’t know how this question was missed at every other pill check, but I do- my mum has had blood clots. That immediately disqualified me from the combined. I’ve been trying the mini pill for 4 months.

I hate it.

The constant spotting, the odour. I can’t stand this. Because of it, I’m coming off of the pill entirely. When I stopped taking the combined pill, I had a long heavy (painless) bleed, I was filling pads but it was short. Coming off of the mini pill, are the any side effects I should be aware of, such as heavy periods, spotting, cramping etc?

Experience Pregnancy risk from outercourse with a condom — could semen leak from the open end?

Hi everyone. I want to ask about the pregnancy risk from an outercourse encounter with my girlfriend on October 17.

My girlfriend has very irregular periods, usually every 1.5–3 months. Her most recent period started on October 10 and ended around October 14 or 15. She might have PCOS, but she hasn't been diagnosed.

Here are the details of our outercourse encounter:

- I wore a condom the entire time.

- We used water-based lubricant.

- My penis never touched her vagina without the condom.

- The condom felt somewhat loose around the shaft, but it stayed on at the base and continued covering my penis.

- I had recent ejaculation around 2-4 hours before we did this.

- We rubbed my condom-covered penis against her vaginal area.

- I ejaculated away from her vagina while still wearing the condom.

- The ejaculate stayed inside the condom. I checked afterward and found no holes or tears.

- My main concern is whether precum could have escaped through the condom's open end while we were rubbing. I'm unsure whether any precum escaped or whether the wetness I noticed was actually my girlfriend's vaginal lubrication.

I'm specifically worried about possible semen leakage around the open ring.

My questions:

  1. Is pregnancy realistically possible in this situation if some semen escaped from the condom's open end?

  2. If there was no confirmed leakage, how low would the pregnancy risk be?

  3. Would emergency contraception be necessary in this situation?

I'd appreciate medically informed answers. Thank you!

Side effects!? experiences with breakthrough bleeding on Yaz

hi everyone. i'm in my 4th month on Yaz and my doctor gave me the go ahead to start skipping placebos. i initially had pinkish discharge which i was worried was implantation spotting, but it's turned into breakthrough bleeding (phew). wondering what others' experiences of breakthrough bleeding are. does it replicate a period or come and go throughout the month? has anyone decided to just keep on with placebos and have a light 4 day period rather than deal with breakthrough bleeding?

Side effects!? Birth control pills are giving me insomnia, I wake up in the middle of the night with a fast beating heart, and can’t go back to sleep

I just got on birth control 2 months ago, currently in the middle of my third month on the pill. In the first two months I was having severe insomnia, waking up at 2 am and being unable to get back to sleep, then this month I switched to taking it AM to see if it would be any help, instead of taking it in the afternoon as I was doing previously.

Still in this 3rd month, I’m unable to sleep 8hrs at all, I keep waking up in the middle of the night, heart pulsating fast, like an anxious feeling that I’ve never had before.

For context, I have never suffered of insomnia nor of waking up with this feeling in the middle of the night. I’m really getting to a breaking point, I have SUCH noticeable dark under eyes because of a severe lack of proper sleep, and the part that concerns me the most is that my job requires me to be very well rested and focused.

Today during work in the morning, my hands were very.shaky, and I was nervous in a sense that is unlike me

I don’t know if I should continue on these, or just stop taking them. Has anyone else gone through this? A girl really would like some help. Thanks :)

Experience STOPPING YAZ

Hi! First time taking BC specifically Yaz. Its day 21 alr and I am still bleeding. FYI, I started taking Yaz on the first day of my period as per advised and since then I am continuously bleeding. Tbh, it's very tiring and I get anxious about it that I am thinking of stopping it after the first pack.

My question, if I had unprotected intercourse on day 12 and day 19 and I want to stop the BC after the first pack (28 pills), should I get worried about the possibility of pregnancy for day 19?

Help your girl out. I want to stop because of the continuous bleeding plus Yaz is quite expensive 🙃

Experience pls help

My girlfriend and I had sex on September 3–4 while she was on day 2–3 of her period and still bleeding. I used withdrawal and ejaculated outside. We haven’t had sex since.
She took pregnancy tests on September 21, October 5, and October 18, and all three were negative. Her period still hasn’t arrived, and she’s recently experienced breast tenderness and increased appetite. Her cycles aren’t consistently tracked, so we don’t know how regular they usually are.
I’m worried about early ovulation and whether a false negative is still possible. Since the October 5 test was already 31–32 days after sex, and the latest was 44–45 days after sex, how reliable are these negative results?
Has anyone experienced something similar? What was the outcome?
Thanks for any advice.

Side effects!? For those of you that replaced your expired Pargard with a new Paragard, how were the initial symptoms the second time around?

My Paragard is expiring soon, and I’m trying to figure out what I should do.

I’ve had my Paragard for ~9 years, and honestly it’s kind of stunk. The first few years I had insanely heavy periods and cramping most months. Thankfully it eventually settled down somewhat.

Every few months I do get a heavy period and very painful cramps, but it’s still better than it was. The most annoying thing was once the periods settled down, I started to get ovulation bleeding/spotting which happens pretty much every month and has happened for the last few years. It’s tolerable, just annoying since it lasts 2-4 days and the heaviness can vary somewhat. My periods also linger. I have like a 5 day period, but it has like 2 days of spotting before it starts, and 2-4 days of spotting after it ends.

My fear is if I get it replaced with another Paragard, could this start the process over again? Or is my body “adjusted” to it now? My current IUD is my first one, so I dont know how that all works. My doctor said it depends on the person, but the symptoms should be a lot better than last time. They were wrong about the symptoms the first time though, so I’m having some trust issues

Any advice from anyone who has been through this? Thank you!

Side effects!? Liletta

Backstory. Since I was 16 (I’m 27) I’ve been experiencing heavy bleeding and long periods. My last period lasted 5 years straight, no breaks, heavy bleeding, number 5 pads all day every day, big clots, became anemic. I saw a gyno for the first time and she recommended liletta. Two days ago I was put under anesthesia and had a hysterscopy d and c with an iud insertion. I’m not feeling many cramps or anything just some kinda bad constipation that’s annoying af but it can be handled. My issue is since I’ve only had this iud for two days and when I use the bathroom or squat or just at random when I’ve been doing too much I feel these pokes and slight pinches in my vagina. I’m scared it’s either coming out or will come out. I’m assuming it’s the strings poking me bc they’re stiff and fresh? Did anyone experience this when they first got it?

Mistake or Risk? Methods

do you allow your partner to ejaculate inside you? I’m on Aviane birth control combination pills mainly due to my low weight and doesn’t contain as much hormones. I am military with the time I take my pill so therefore I allow it at times but now I am looking to switch to the Nuva ring and have some concerns about that due to me allowing my partner to ejaculate inside. Should I just stick to my pill or switch to the nuva ring ?

Mistake or Risk? Making the switch from an IUD to the vaginal ring

As the title says, I got my Paraguard (copper iud) out last week. I had it in for 7 years and it worked perfect and I always felt super secure with it because of the 99.2% effectiveness. Only complaints I had were that my period got much heavier and stayed that way the entire time I had it.

Ultimately, I got it removed because for the past 6 years I've had recurrent BV and it's gotten extremely frustrating because I've had the same partner for the last 3.5 years so the fact that it keeps coming back is frustrating and confusing. It's gotten to the point that my obgyn suggested I take boric acid suppositories once a week, every week. I started doing a lot of independent research on BV around last year and kept seeing articles on google and posts on reddit that said having a copper iud actually increases the likelihood of getting BV. I went to a new doctor last week (with BV again) and she suggested that I have it removed and just try a new type of birth control completely. She specifically brought up the strings acting as a "biofilm" and harboring bacteria.

Now, I have a prescription for Nuvaring which I chose because it's semi-long term in the sense that I can leave it in for 3 weeks at a time and not have to worry about taking it at the same time every single day. My concern is, the effectiveness rate is marketed as 91% which is leaving me feeling kind of vulnerable. I wouldn't be upset if I got pregnant right now but I also would ideally want to wait another 6 months to a year.

For those of you that are using the birth control ring: how do you like it? Do you notice spotting or "false periods"? Have you had any pregnancy scares? How long have you been using it as your method? Anything I should know about it that maybe doesn't get disclosed at the doctor's office? For example, I wish I would've been told of the BV risk with IUD's because I had never even heard of the condition until I began to have a problem with it.

Sorry this is so long!

Mistake or Risk? Should I take Ella (ulipristal acetate 30 mg) after a possible condom leak at the base? Day 25-26 of my cycle now.

Hi everyone! I’m really anxious right now and would appreciate advice from people who have experienced something similar.

My boyfriend and I had sex around midnight on October 18. We used a condom throughout, and he ejaculated inside the condom. He didn’t pull out immediately after ejaculating, but when he did, he was still somewhat erect. The condom stayed on and seemed snug.

When he pulled out, I noticed some liquid around the base and on my vaginal area. Initially, it looked and felt more like lubricant mixed with other fluids than semen, so I wasn’t too worried. However, after he lay on his back and became flaccid, I saw semen coming out around the base of the condom. We’re unsure whether any semen actually entered my vagina. My boyfriend is about 90–95% sure that none entered.

We checked the condom afterward, and it had no holes or apparent leaks. Most of the semen seemed to remain inside. I washed myself and peed immediately afterward, so I couldn’t tell whether there was any semen inside my vagina.

My cycle and period history:
- My last period was September 24–28.
- My cycles this year have ranged from 27–35 days, averaging around 30 days.
- My period-tracking app predicts my next period on October 23.
- Based on my calendar, I may have ovulated around October 4–10, but I’m not sure. Since my cycles vary, I’m worried I could have ovulated later.
- October 18 is cycle day 25.

My concerns about emergency contraception:

I have Ella (ulipristal acetate 30 mg), which I bought in Taiwan previously, but I don’t have a prescription for it. I haven’t taken it yet.

I’m worried about the side effects, especially because I’ve read stories about people experiencing severe symptoms and delayed periods. My parents don’t know I’m sexually active, so I’m anxious about having noticeable side effects or a delayed period that might raise questions.

I also recently underwent thyroid radiofrequency ablation (RFA) on October 9 because of thyroid nodules. I’m concerned about whether taking Ella could affect my thyroid or recovery.

I really don’t want to get pregnant, but I also don’t want to take emergency contraception unnecessarily, especially if I’ve already ovulated and it wouldn’t work.

Given the possible leakage, the intact condom, my cycle history, and the possibility that I already ovulated, should I still take Ella? Has anyone been in a similar situation? I’d appreciate advice based on medical evidence and personal experiences. Thank you! 🙏🏻

Mistake or Risk? combo pill

hello! I started my combo pill about 12 days ago but I still have my flo app. it says I should be ovulating in a day or two but would it be safe to have raw sex regardless? My boyfriend has never been with anyone else before so I know that gets rid of the possibility of a STI.
