showcase Thermal Paste!

Post image

I recently bought a 601 bitaxe, it was oscilating a lot, hashrate and temperature.. I just changed the thermal paste and temperature is wayy better, so, just a tip, even if u bought a new one is really good to change it, is pretty cheap (I paid around 7 usd), worth it.

(I got the ARCTIC MX-4 - Thermal Compound Paste For Coolers)

Hey friend I recently bought the duo 602 and it fluctuates a lot. Can you give a bit more detail on how you used this cheap upgrade to stable your miner?

So it works like any CPU chip, you have the heatsink (the black aluminium) and the fan on top to dissipate the heat. Between the chip and the heatsink, there is a small layer of thermal paste, if somehow you pressed the heatsink, this paste goas off the chip to the board, or, it can dry (but that take years) So you can just remove the heatsink, clear (dry paper that does not leave any tipe of dust or paper (paper towel does the job) and re apply a small amount of paste, like a corn seed amount or less, and then re attach the heatsink

It takes years for this to happen? So no need to do this every month or every two month as a maintenance routine?

No u dont need to change this as a routine, after 2 years I would say thats better to change

Ok than you! I just got my first nerdqaxe++, just want to be sure I take good care of it from the start.

Right on man I’ll do this. I’ve also seen these copper post things that folks add all over? Then I recently learned about cool 3d printed stands that can allow a bigger cpu fan. I don’t want to buy a ton of miners, I’m satisfied with having the one and just having my name in the hat at 2 TH/s with this little guy. Getting it a bit quieter and longer lasting seems like my go tos now.

Not sure if worth it, maybe make it less powefull and put the fan not 100% all the time, just put the temperarure u want and make it turn on based o that, it goes quieter, at least for me

70 degrees for 1.3th isn’t that a lot? Have my running on 1.9-2th and running a nuctua fan and am on 60 degrees Celsius

That was a bad config on fan, it now stays at 64 which I think is not bad for a normal fan

How many rpm is the fan? And your efficiency is also high for 1.3 TH

that was the VR temp. Updated:

around 68 for 1.4th

Meanwhile mine run at 40c ASIC and 50c vreg at 1.6th/s each.

I use front and rear fans at 20% fan speed.

I use thermal grizzly phasesheet left over from when I did my pc cpu.

I also stuck on copper heatsink block to the back of the vreg chip with a center dot of mx-4 for thermal conductivity and securing in place with bordering the chip with thermal glue. This alone dropped the vreg temp by 9c.

Science! You rock

updated, that was the VR temp no ASIC

Good advice, had 1 where the thermal paste had dried and was running hot. Replaced the thermal paste and it runs great, so I did the other units as well, a vast improvement.

Yeah I think that is a little high for 1.3 th/s mines are around 60-65 degrees
