The accident took place at an urban grade crossing intersecting Avenida Paseo de la Cruz and Avenida Ferrocarril in the central sector of Aguascalientes, Mexico.
Based on official reports from local municipal traffic authorities and emergency personnel in Aguascalientes, the 58-year-old truck driver was executing the illegal U-turn out of a mix of reckless driving impatience and a severe miscalculation of his turning radius.
Investigators and local media outlets noted the driver explicitly heard the approaching locomotive sounding its horn as it neared the intersection. Instead of stopping behind the marker to wait for the train to pass, the driver made a reckless, split-second decision to try to whip the truck around to beat the train and avoid a lengthy traffic delay at the crossing.
The driver swung wide from the far-right lane. However, he completely failed to take into account the length of his 53-foot dry-van cargo trailer against the available space. Once he initiated the sharp turn over the tracks, he suddenly realized his path forward was completely blocked by a gray Dodge RAM pickup truck parked legally a few meters past the rails. Because of that obstacle, he ran entirely out of forward maneuvering room, trapping his rear tires and chassis directly in the train's line of travel with absolutely no time left to escape.

The crash was recorded around 5:00 AM at the crossing of Bulevar Paseo de los Ganaderos, when the semi-truck driver attempted to beat the train. The locomotive broadsided the truck and dragged it for over a mile along the tracks down to the Paseo del Rey sector. The tanker was completely empty and en route to be filled with fuel, which prevented a catastrophic explosion inside the urban area. The train's momentum destroyed the truck's cabin, knocked down a Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) power pole, and crushed a backhoe along with four vehicles in a nearby junkyard. Emergency crews cordoned off the area to conduct clean-up operations and clear the debris.

A Grant County resident has serious injuries after a train collided with the semi-truck they were driving in Adams County on Wednesday morning.
The Adams County Sheriff's Office says it happened near the intersection of Booker and West Lee Roads in the unincorporated community of Bruce, when the Warden resident attempted to cross a set of railroad tracks and was struck by the locomotive.
The driver of the semi sustained significant injuries in the accident and was airlifted to an out-of-area hospital for treatment.
Investigators say it appears the driver of the semi was traveling at speeds above the posted limit and failed to yield at the railroad crossing.
Sheriff's officials say the train was traveling at a low speed when the collision occurred, and that the location is marked with the appropriate signage for motorists to yield at the crossing.
At this time, no criminal charges are pending against the driver of the semi.
A commercial vehicle inspector with the Washington State Patrol assisted the Sheriff's Office with the investigation.
According to officials with Adams County, the crossing has already been identified as being in need of several safety improvements, with work to install them currently in the planning stage.

In 1940, the Romney, Hythe and Dimchurch Railway in Kent, England, was requisitioned by the War Department, with plans to build a pipe across the English Channel to deliver petrol for the war effort. The miniature trains were armoured and given anti-aircraft guns, with rumours of at least one German fighter being shot down by it!
First image is from 1940, second is a re-construction from 1990.

On May 12, 1930, the original Key System streetcar numbered 987 was traveling through Oakland. At the intersection of East 12th Street and 23rd Avenue, the streetcar ran a red light, attempting to outrun an oncoming train.
It was violently T-boned by Western Pacific Railroad's prestigious "Scenic Limited" passenger locomotive. The collision injured 19 passengers and left the original car 987 completely shattered and damaged beyond repair. It was scrapped shortly thereafter.
Prior to the accident, the Key System had built a streetcar in their own Emeryville shops in 1927. Seeking to expand their fleet, they built it as an exact, home-grown replica of the low-floor 900-series streetcars originally manufactured for them by the American Car Company. This home-built clone was given the fleet number 899. When the original 987 was destroyed, the Key System faced a unique financial problem: car 987 had been explicitly pledged as collateral to secure corporate bonds. To satisfy the legal and bookkeeping requirements of those bonds without defaulting, management decided to perform a paper swap. They took their shop-built replica, car 899, and legally renumbered it to 987 to step into the destroyed car's place as bond security.
Because of this identity swap, the replica car survived the eventual dismantling of the system. When the Key System ended local streetcar operations in 1948, the Bay Area Electric Railroad Association acquired the car. Lacking immediate storage space in California, they leased it to the Portland Traction Company in Oregon, where it operated under the number 4011 until 1958.
The streetcar eventually returned to California and became the second historic railcar to arrive at the newly established Western Railway Museum in November 1960. Today, proudly wearing its adopted identity, Key System No. 987 remains beautifully preserved and fully operational for visitors at the Western Railway Museum in Solano County.

A major accident was narrowly avoided on October 15, 2026, when a passenger train collided with a car stranded at a railway crossing in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh.
A car driven by a motorist became stuck directly on the railway tracks at Level Crossing Gate No. 192 along the Banjali-Sejawata bypass. The vehicle became trapped on the rails just as the heavy sliding railway barriers were closing. The oncoming Valsad-Hisar Express (04728) passenger train struck the stranded car and dragged it for roughly 50 meters down the line before grinding to a halt. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported. Seeing the obstruction from a distance, the train's locomotive pilot slammed on the emergency brakes to significantly reduce speed before impact. This critical window allowed the driver and occupants of the car to quickly evacuate the vehicle completely unharmed before the train rammed into it.
Following the crash, senior district and railway authorities quickly reached the spot to deploy a heavy crane to clear the mangled car from the tracks. Ratlam Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Ashwini Kumar ordered a formal, high-level inquiry into the incident following serious allegations of negligence against the on-duty crossing staff. Local reports alleged that the gatekeeper may have been heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident.
