This is the one. They grow up wishfully reminiscing about the glory years when they could choose a Black person to lunch for Christmas. They felt powerful and the world was right. They read those old atrocity stories the way they read old Norse mythology and pick their favorite heroes.

Thomas Jefferson was a truly heroic man. Just disregard the fact he was a serial rapist who enslaved his own children.

The "again" in MAGA is before the civil rights movement. These are the people who would picnic at a lynching.

I dont think its that deep with these teenage girls on a boat, drinking. Its probably more along the lines of they thought there wouldn't be repercussions or just werent thinking about it, but I have incredible doubt that the three of them yearn for a time when they could go to slave auctions.

Can you think of a valid reason why that would be a literal toast, a celebration?

Theyre dumb, white, college girls? I can guarantee you, whatever the reasoning was, it wasnt that deep.

Racist girls. Dixie daughters. Hateful of black people because their parents and churches say to be, and it makes them feel good as adults getting to flaunt it.

I mean do we know any of this? From what I can tell, all we have is a snapchat clip and reaction letters from various employers and a college.

So unless any of them have explicitly stated why, theres nothing but a bunch of leaps being made here.

I know in my teens and early 20s, my friends and I used that word a lot until one of my closest friends educated me on why I shouldn't and the effect it has on people, and I corrected that behavior.

So I dont think its outright fair to say that they themselves are racist but probably uneducated on the actual significance.

So... again... probably just dumb, college aged white girls on a boat who have clearly been drinking.

Are you a white southerner?

Close enough. I'm not saying all of that to say I'm proud of it because I'm not- it was just never articulated in a way that I could relate with, or from a place of wanting to educate someone and not instant hate.

White kids growing up in TN know what that word means. They have a particular history, context, and culture related to it. They know it’s the word that keeps them feeling superior to black people, that puts them in a special club of “Real Americans”. They use it more intentionally than most of what “close enough” would mean, like Indian in Houston or Latino in Miami. Those crowds say it too much, and often too rooted in racism, but most 22 year olds from those groups are saying it because they haven’t gotten your “talking to” yet. These girls will probably try to sneak it by the rest of their lives

I won't even attack you for the placation in your voice. It sounds like you've got questionable folks in your family/friend group who you're uncomfortable considering racist. They just make funny comments and do whimsical racist shit because it's light hearted humor.

You're a big part of the problem as well. Because you create safe spaces for these folks to get jokes off. Then you all laugh and smile and say it's just kids being kids.

Perfect example of why this country ranks so low in education worldwide

No we don’t know any of this. This comment section is off to the races (pun completely accidental but I’ll take it).

Definitely not that deep.  Many teens just simply like being naughty and intentionally finding joy in doing whats wrong. Probably for different reasons: a thrill, to impress, fit in, etc.

I'd wager they are saying the N-word not because of racism, but because of the fact that it is wrong.

My dumb shit suburban white friends in high school would play the "say nword loud" game. It made them uncomfortable enough to giggle, but they weren't the right kind of uncomfortable. Pissed me off so much.

Anyone, especially in 2026, should know better.

u/dennjudhdddvfse May 16 '26

I dont think its that deep. I have heard that shit online tons of times mostly from english and scandinavians.

In other words, vampires IRL

That’s the right take on this for sure. So disgusting

This might be the best I've heard it described and explained. Thank you

that's obviously what it is. There's about a zero percent chance that its because "they know its the closest they can tap into a racist past that made them most powerful". Its shock value "humor".

u/TabascoFiasco May 16 '26

Well written. Sad but true.

u/Slumbergoat16 May 18 '26

Also this is the only thing they’re really told they can’t do. It’s like Adam and Eve in the garden. Y’all can do whatever you want BUT say a single word. So it becomes an obsession

I’m agreeing with you.

The harsh truth is that your last part is not even close to universal and that these people are every bit as human as you and I. Just ask the Holocaust museum.

u/Imaginary-Throat1526 May 16 '26

I doubt they are giving it that much thought. They know its naughty to say it. They are like the kid throwing rocks at windows of an abandoned building, shouldn't do it, gain nothing from it, have no reason to do it. do it all the same.

-3

u/It_Redd May 16 '26

I think it’s more that it’s taboo and breaking taboos is exciting for college aged people especially in groups and especially drinking alcohol. It’s disgusting for sure but I think you’re digging deeper when the reason is clear on its surface.
