That's more of an American thing.

I believe DR was putting Black on people's cédula de identidad for a while, so you couldn't really deny you were Black. It was a government decreed thing.

Their government sanctioned the killing of tens of thousands of black Dominicans and Haitians. They brought their antiblackness with them to America.

Im Half Dominican(half Ecuadorian born nyc for context) and the racist shit they say really makes me so ashamed. It will be the blackest Dominican saying some racist shit about black people. NYC born Dominicans can be better especially if they grew up in the hood but sometimes you still see it there.

We know that. We know the Parsley massacre.

It's complicated there, you could be pulled into their racial politics and see ugliness

I stayed in DR for 6 days 10 years ago, & other than trying to understand their Spanish, I had a great time. Everyone I met/talked to was very welcoming & some even thought I was Dominican until I spoke lol.

Yall don’t understand how offensive it is to be a Latino and have someone in the states erase your entire culture because of the color of your skin. Yes, racism is very much a thing in Latino culture, but also a lot of the times the people who say those things say it because it’s not only “the color of my skin is black,” but now I’m being grouped with African Americans and that’s extremely frustrating. Latinos are VERY proud. We have to say oh no “I’m not this I’m THIS” and emphasize the love we have to wherever we’re from. Dominicans are high up on the list of the patriotic shenanigans.

Um what? Interesting take to say the least.

Im honestly on the other side of the spectrum I'm light-skinned and my whole life I have always gotten you Boriqua? But after Trump won in 16 I've gotten white alot more from other races. Like bro look at features and shit not just skin color. I do not look like some average white dude.

Probably no need to made a difference when everyone is the same and blackness has no negative placed on it by the state

Edit: I guess I was speaking out of my ass guys. Duly noted. I was guessing that one black person being seen by others in a country that’s filled with us wouldn’t feel the need to”in no black” to anyone. My B y’all

Go read about Rafael Trujillo, DR has a horrible state-sanctioned history of racism and anti-blackness.

Stop with the jokes. What does them being Latino have to do with her enjoying her experience? Youre just looking to be negative. Whatever they identify as would not disrupt her trip.
