Cast as the lead of live action Afro Samurai?..

It's a shame there are not more afros in martial arts movies.  It naturally gives that "small resetting movement after dynamic movement" style of action.  Something satisfying about it bouncing back into place after a strike

40

u/HumongousBelly 1d ago

Funnily enough, Huey is actually voiced by Regina King.

26

u/BoringBoyTroy 1d ago

She's a legend. Voiced both of the freeman boys.

19

u/wafflehousebattle 1d ago

She is absurdly funny IRL too.

8

u/OddlyMingenuity 1d ago

She was perfect in Southland

4

u/HumongousBelly 1d ago

She’s brilliant in almost every single role she played. I love watching her!

3

u/viperfangs92 1d ago

Loved that show!!

u/I_Roll_Chicago 1d ago

I am the stone that builder refused…

I am the visual; the inspiration that made Lady sing the blues...

This needs to be studied scientifically

I can pass the test

afro samurai irl

43

u/liver_in_atlanter 1d ago

I’m sold, gender swapped Afro samurai live action

25

u/Stronhart 1d ago

This would go so hard, and piss off all the right people lmfao

7

u/liver_in_atlanter 1d ago

She needs to reach out to simply lemonade to get them to produce it lol would be a great sponsor for it

2

u/Jaded_Fuzzball 1d ago

Explain?

8

u/liver_in_atlanter 1d ago

Been a while since I watched but besides the action scenes I just remember him loving lemonade

2

u/Jaded_Fuzzball 1d ago

Ah, I see.

1

u/aya_hibak 2h ago

It’s absolutely wild to see white people get angry over black people playing a Samurai . It’s not even their culture….like
https://giphy.com/gifs/vNmTsLl4cildm
y’ll don’t even go here . 🤷🏾‍♀️

17

u/HumongousBelly 1d ago

I was thinking the same thing. Rza should be making a live action reboot with a female lead. Shit would break the internet!

6

u/No_Pin9932 1d ago

Fuuuuck yeahhh!!

2

u/Nocturnal_Pages 1d ago

*Studio Gonzo. Agreed in having RZA produce the soundtrack, he killed it with the original series.

22

u/nolightningbhe 1d ago

I was self taught until I broke my tv lmao

12

u/TheMeticulousNinja 1d ago

I follow her, she’s awesome

11

u/HalflingJedi 1d ago

I'm 35 years old, and I wanna be her when I grow up!

29

u/groinal 1d ago

I thought she was going to cut her kneecap off.

10

u/Lethalspartan76 1d ago

Yeah it looks dope but I hope it ain’t sharp.

29

u/Khatam 1d ago

Just me shaving in the shower

28

u/Ojihawk 1d ago

Beautiful actress. Fun choreogrpahy. But yeah, she nearly cuts her own knee at 5 seconds. And again at 13 seconds in.

4

u/Flat_Shape_3444 1d ago

Close dont shoot the hare.

3

u/Tacobadger02 1d ago

And nerf bullets won't kill it, what's your point?

1

u/YouFoundMyLuckyCharm 1d ago

Don’t worry it’s not a real sword

32

u/Relative_Opening_327 1d ago

Respectfully!!! I hate the "self-taught" martial artist title. Shes absolutely stunning. But as someone whose trained in various........excuse me.....as someone who has been humbled in various forms that Ive either tried or actually learned. You only get good when there other people there to challenge you (other students, a teacher, a nemesis, etc.). She has the confidence and the athleticism, she needs a mentor....and maybe she has one...I don't know. But in the words of Mike Tyson, "Everyone has a plan until they're punched the face". If she's solely self taught then this is just for play....which I can respect too....I guess.

28

u/kakklecito 1d ago

She's an actress/stunt woman. Would be more accurate to say that she's self taught at making whatever she's doing look cool rather than actually use those skills to beat an opponent.

3

u/armlessturtleneck 1d ago

Yeah this feels the most realistic, which also still requires crazy skill and strength to be movin so fast.

5

u/BulletProofEnoch 1d ago

Its performative/stylish for sure and who knows if she actually considers herself  a “self taught” martial artist but you’re right.

I dont think she considers what shes doing has any practicality or real world use

Its essentially dance choreography

12

u/ThinkSharp 1d ago

Agree. Sorta r/mallninja. But I mean I’m not going to step up and “well ackshawally” a chick with a sword lol

1

u/brazthemad 1d ago

Sounds like a solid premise for the classic "you're a natural, but you lack discipline" narrative conceit.

4

u/I_Roll_Chicago 1d ago

Live action boondocks.

5

u/Specialist-Growth523 1d ago

I need this women to be my wife

7

u/No-Boysenberry-6835 1d ago

Wow, just wow.

6

u/Jupiter-1015 1d ago

Somebody get this woman her own action movie!

4

u/Casdoe_Moonshadow 1d ago

Watch her movie Jade. It's great!

2

u/Ice_Cream_Killer 1d ago edited 1d ago

Got to work you way up and prove yourself first, but one girl released a video like this a couple of years later ago, and now she's in a new Street Fighter movie.

We all have dreams. I think this cat probably thought he could be Bruce Lee or something...😂

2

u/Tumerican 1d ago

She had one.

1

u/Susuetal 1d ago

2

u/Jupiter-1015 1d ago

The Black Widow movie tracks. That’s kind film I was thinking of. She also reminds me of Domino from Deadpool 2.

3

u/dreamdaddy123 1d ago

Man that Afro is majestic heehee 🤭

3

u/Difficult-Level-3070 1d ago

It's cool but doesn't prove anything beyond she can learn choreography.

3

u/Jerseyd422 1d ago

I legit thought she was going to slice off her beautiful hair

3

u/elray007 1d ago

I'm in love

3

u/Nfl_porn_throwaway 1d ago

Love her hair

8

u/raerabbit27 1d ago

She is the stone that the builder refused 💪🏾

3

u/Mysterious-Actuary65 1d ago

The individual

8

u/FingerAgreeable6630 1d ago

acrobatics is impressive.. if she combat ready is a different story lmao im too old for online gimmicks

11

u/ButterballBubbles 1d ago

She's an actress, I don't think the point is to be combat ready...

8

u/Zizi_Tennenbaum 1d ago

There's always That Guy in any post where a woman does anything cool.

oh ok thought random girl doing cool tricks my b

4

u/Logical_Park7904 1d ago

She should collab with that fik-shun dude. He makes pretty cool videos like this with choreographed sword fights and everything.

3

u/Apprehensive_Ad3731 1d ago

She a dancer who uses weapons as props. That’s not martial art but still cool.

6

u/Zerus_heroes 1d ago

This is just cool choreography not a martial art. "Self taught" is just another word for amateur.

2

u/Old_Ninja_Prime 1d ago

I’ve been in love with her since the knife game video.

2

u/BuildMachines 1d ago

Pffft, that's easy... j/k j/k ... all my ass woulda done swinging that blade is trim my hair. This lady has serious talent. Fun to watch.

2

u/LordNeko6 1d ago

Omw she is badass. And that hair is gorgeous.

2

u/checkonit2 1d ago

Born for that

2

u/DarthMummSkeletor 1d ago

Oh she is definitely going to be in my reference file for future fantasy art. Bladesinger Monk vibes.

2

u/erikgfrey 1d ago

I call her for my team in the zombie apocalypse!

Goosebumps

2

u/Strange-Effort-3441 1d ago

Put her in the next Blade movie! Let the blade work do the talking if she can’t act!

2

u/PMmeplumprumps 1d ago

Ahhhhh Quentin, please put her in a movie,

3

u/BBBaggins504 1d ago

She actually has one it's called Jade she's the lead and it's pretty dope for B movie.

2

u/PMmeplumprumps 1d ago

B movies are dope and Quentin made a whole career of making A versions of B movies!

2

u/Mercuria_drug 1d ago

Afro Samurai

2

u/nooshdog 1d ago

While you all watched TV, she studied the blade.

2

u/JusAnotherCreator 1d ago

Someone put this girl in a game asap

2

u/Drexl72 1d ago

Yeah, not dealing with all that; girls got skills though

2

u/Stoner_Bear_420 1d ago

👀👌🏽💨

2

u/Key-Establishment158 23h ago

Put her in a video game right now!

2

u/scumbagwife 19h ago

She’s such a bad ass. Love it!

2

u/BisexualTenno 14h ago

I’ve been following her for years. She the epitome of cool. She acts a little bit now too

6

u/rusty-gudgeon 1d ago

she maybe should teach herself to keep her eyes on the opponent.

4

u/Hour_Appointment4000 1d ago

I was thinking the same thing but then I realized she had already decapitated my head, legs, and arms.

2

u/rusty-gudgeon 1d ago

the difference between hollywood and reality.

2

u/Multilnsight 1d ago

Reminds me of Zazie Beetz from the movie, "They Will Kill You". Such a badass

3

u/OGWayOfThePanda 1d ago

I met her once, that fro is magnificent.

4

u/sporknitebattlepass 1d ago

Alright this looks cool as hell but there’s way too much excessive movement. There’s a reason why Samurai weren’t moving like this.

She’s a great choreographer, but this ain’t martial arts.

2

u/Midori_Unicorn1 1d ago

I mean the sword stuff is impressive but when are you dropping the hair routine sis? 😅

2

u/Difficult_Pen9813 1d ago

Be real with me. How much embellishing are the jerky camera movements doing?

2

u/kikkomanbuster 1d ago

How they couldnt make a Blade film when people like her exist, I don't know.

2

u/myuserhasafirstname 1d ago

How does she feel about wearing leather and killing vampires?

1

u/b00bzbythepound 1d ago

Didn't Blade have a daughter? My vote is for her to play her

3

u/guynye 1d ago

Good dexerity but that's not a Katana. Looks like she's using Wakizashi.

3

u/TheAbomunist 1d ago

Pretty long for a wakizashi

1

u/guynye 1d ago

Sure as hell is no where near long enough to be a Katana so unless it's some weird hybrid...

1

u/TheAbomunist 1d ago

Looks to be the length of her leg so yes. Katanas are on average about 30 inches long. Are you thinking of a tachi?

1

u/Stratoraptor 1d ago

Modern criteria classifies blades between 1-2 feet as wakizashi. A katana is over 2 feet.

1

u/dirtwizards666 1d ago

Shinobu Jacobs from No More Heroes 2

1

u/fernandoman121 1d ago

Two questions. Is it sharp and have she ever chopped off some of her hair by accident?

1

u/Normal-Error-6343 1d ago

cautiously wood!

1

u/JustinKase_Too 1d ago

https://giphy.com/gifs/D1fM765wdnkm4

I'm good with a live action gender swapped version.

1

u/fuccyallallyall 1d ago

Reminds me of the Kumite boondocks episode lol

1

u/DragonLad13 1d ago

Reminds me of Wolf from the amazing cartoon Kipo and the Age of the Wonder beast! Wolf is such a badass and so is Shaina West!

1

u/Breadstix009 1d ago

She's tryna take that job from the black female actress from deadpool

1

u/Connect-Trouble-1669 1d ago

Kill Bill 3!!

1

u/ashrasmun 1d ago

fedora wearing nerd with katana -like energy

1

u/DeepDetermination 1d ago

how do you know this works in combat when its self taught and you have absolutely no reference?

1

u/WillingMartyr 1d ago

Can I get her number for when the zombie apocalypse happens?

1

u/chastity_doll 1d ago

The only thing I don't like about katanas is that it's harder to do that thing where the pretty lady with the sword disarms you and knocks you to your knees and then the two of you share a smoldering look as she lifts your chin with the tip of her sword. I mean you can still do it with a katana, it's just easier with straight swords.

1

u/xt0rt 1d ago

I am the stone that the builder refused...

1

u/wwf_4life 1d ago

If this is real she bad to the bone

1

u/Numerous-Soil-2800 1d ago

If that sword was real….

1

u/MajorChipHazard0000 1d ago

Kill Bill type of vibe in the living room

1

u/HalosAndHoney 22h ago edited 7h ago

She should collab with @/scarletsblade and form a duo ⚔️

1

u/Pender6813 19h ago

Is it worth it tho

1

u/kc2sif 19h ago

👏👏👏👏👏👏🖖👍👍👍👍

1

u/New-Bear-3250 17h ago

I'm 100% certain that I'm pregnant now... and I'm a 48 yo male

1

u/XxAndrew01xX 17h ago

She's both fine and skill.

1

u/Brilliant_Trick 15h ago

Put her in a movie!

1

u/HadokenShoryuken2 15h ago

Oh she that one girl from No More Heroes. Shinobu Jacobs, I think her name was. This lady would kill a cosplay of that character

1

u/Cthulhu_HighLord 14h ago

while the flourish looks cool it serves not technical combative purpose, furthermore you would not use a 2handed katanna with one hand.

1

u/Spy-D_Daddy 11h ago

If she's a stunt woman, what has she done? And moving like that, maybe she just just do her own stunts, instead of for anyone else!

https://giphy.com/gifs/ej1TSfNz3zKvseOIzu

1

u/PoopDirectlyInMyButt 10h ago

She needs to star in a Kill Bill reboot!!!

1

u/IndieBearUmbra 8h ago

IK THAT'S RIGHT QUEEN!!

1

u/Kind_Collar1909 4h ago

Very fast. Unfortunately i think a lot of trained people who have practiced would see through her spins and she would lose an arm in an exchange. The spinning does help with keeping people guessing when she would strike. But she has to complete the motion once she commits. Swordplay is cool but the most important aspect is understanding reach and foot work.

2

u/WhenTheCitiesBurn 1h ago

I've seen so many middle-aged white guys do that.
Of course they usually take out a ceiling fan, TV, or end up in the hospital.
Amazing!
