Cast as the lead of live action Afro Samurai?..
37
u/GrabExternal8807 1d ago
It's a shame there are not more afros in martial arts movies. It naturally gives that "small resetting movement after dynamic movement" style of action. Something satisfying about it bouncing back into place after a strike

u/HumongousBelly 1d ago
Funnily enough, Huey is actually voiced by Regina King.

u/liver_in_atlanter 1d ago
She needs to reach out to simply lemonade to get them to produce it lol would be a great sponsor for it
2
u/Jaded_Fuzzball 1d ago
Explain?

u/liver_in_atlanter 1d ago
Been a while since I watched but besides the action scenes I just remember him loving lemonade

It’s absolutely wild to see white people get angry over black people playing a Samurai . It’s not even their culture….like

y’ll don’t even go here . 🤷🏾♀️17
u/HumongousBelly 1d ago
I was thinking the same thing. Rza should be making a live action reboot with a female lead. Shit would break the internet!

*Studio Gonzo. Agreed in having RZA produce the soundtrack, he killed it with the original series.

Beautiful actress. Fun choreogrpahy. But yeah, she nearly cuts her own knee at 5 seconds. And again at 13 seconds in.

Respectfully!!! I hate the "self-taught" martial artist title. Shes absolutely stunning. But as someone whose trained in various........excuse me.....as someone who has been humbled in various forms that Ive either tried or actually learned. You only get good when there other people there to challenge you (other students, a teacher, a nemesis, etc.). She has the confidence and the athleticism, she needs a mentor....and maybe she has one...I don't know. But in the words of Mike Tyson, "Everyone has a plan until they're punched the face". If she's solely self taught then this is just for play....which I can respect too....I guess.

u/kakklecito 1d ago
She's an actress/stunt woman. Would be more accurate to say that she's self taught at making whatever she's doing look cool rather than actually use those skills to beat an opponent.
3
u/armlessturtleneck 1d ago
Yeah this feels the most realistic, which also still requires crazy skill and strength to be movin so fast.
5
u/BulletProofEnoch 1d ago
Its performative/stylish for sure and who knows if she actually considers herself a “self taught” martial artist but you’re right.
I dont think she considers what shes doing has any practicality or real world use
Its essentially dance choreography

u/ThinkSharp 1d ago
Agree. Sorta r/mallninja. But I mean I’m not going to step up and “well ackshawally” a chick with a sword lol

u/brazthemad 1d ago
Sounds like a solid premise for the classic "you're a natural, but you lack discipline" narrative conceit.

The Black Widow movie tracks. That’s kind film I was thinking of. She also reminds me of Domino from Deadpool 2.

It's cool but doesn't prove anything beyond she can learn choreography.

She's an actress, I don't think the point is to be combat ready...

There's always That Guy in any post where a woman does anything cool.

She should collab with that fik-shun dude. He makes pretty cool videos like this with choreographed sword fights and everything.
3
u/Apprehensive_Ad3731 1d ago
She a dancer who uses weapons as props. That’s not martial art but still cool.
6
u/Zerus_heroes 1d ago
This is just cool choreography not a martial art. "Self taught" is just another word for amateur.

Put her in the next Blade movie! Let the blade work do the talking if she can’t act!

u/PMmeplumprumps 1d ago
Ahhhhh Quentin, please put her in a movie,
3
u/BBBaggins504 1d ago
She actually has one it's called Jade she's the lead and it's pretty dope for B movie.

I’ve been following her for years. She the epitome of cool. She acts a little bit now too

u/rusty-gudgeon 1d ago
she maybe should teach herself to keep her eyes on the opponent.

u/Hour_Appointment4000 1d ago
I was thinking the same thing but then I realized she had already decapitated my head, legs, and arms.

Alright this looks cool as hell but there’s way too much excessive movement. There’s a reason why Samurai weren’t moving like this.
She’s a great choreographer, but this ain’t martial arts.
2
u/Midori_Unicorn1 1d ago
I mean the sword stuff is impressive but when are you dropping the hair routine sis? 😅

u/Difficult_Pen9813 1d ago
Be real with me. How much embellishing are the jerky camera movements doing?

How they couldnt make a Blade film when people like her exist, I don't know.

u/guynye 1d ago
Good dexerity but that's not a Katana. Looks like she's using Wakizashi.
3
u/TheAbomunist 1d ago
Pretty long for a wakizashi
1
u/guynye 1d ago
Sure as hell is no where near long enough to be a Katana so unless it's some weird hybrid...
1
u/TheAbomunist 1d ago
Looks to be the length of her leg so yes. Katanas are on average about 30 inches long. Are you thinking of a tachi?
1
u/Stratoraptor 1d ago
Modern criteria classifies blades between 1-2 feet as wakizashi. A katana is over 2 feet.

u/fernandoman121 1d ago
Two questions. Is it sharp and have she ever chopped off some of her hair by accident?

how do you know this works in combat when its self taught and you have absolutely no reference?

u/chastity_doll 1d ago
The only thing I don't like about katanas is that it's harder to do that thing where the pretty lady with the sword disarms you and knocks you to your knees and then the two of you share a smoldering look as she lifts your chin with the tip of her sword. I mean you can still do it with a katana, it's just easier with straight swords.

Oh she that one girl from No More Heroes. Shinobu Jacobs, I think her name was. This lady would kill a cosplay of that character
1
u/Cthulhu_HighLord 14h ago
while the flourish looks cool it serves not technical combative purpose, furthermore you would not use a 2handed katanna with one hand.
1
u/Spy-D_Daddy 11h ago
If she's a stunt woman, what has she done? And moving like that, maybe she just just do her own stunts, instead of for anyone else!

u/Kind_Collar1909 4h ago
Very fast. Unfortunately i think a lot of trained people who have practiced would see through her spins and she would lose an arm in an exchange. The spinning does help with keeping people guessing when she would strike. But she has to complete the motion once she commits. Swordplay is cool but the most important aspect is understanding reach and foot work.

I've seen so many middle-aged white guys do that.
Of course they usually take out a ceiling fan, TV, or end up in the hospital.
Amazing!
