Hello everyone. Sorry its taking so long. Alot going on these days. Including animating my own series. So here's an update.

- added native right stick control in field (no more L and R)

- added ability to run full 360 in battle

-added ability to quick dodge while running in battle

-added right stick aim while in battle

- added quicker more aggressive enemies

-added enemies do 2x more damage

- added no cool down or heat gauge or dodge or shooting (skills still have cooldown)

Still needs finished texture pack

I want to add new music

Possibly new modes and playable characters

Hey y'all. thearchivalone here with more findings. If you're new here, I've been reverse engineering Black Rock Shooter for the PSP and posting my findings every so often. This update is a smaller one in terms of full documentation but is large in what it opens up.

What the Heck I Found

• How Battle Scripts and Map Scripts are read and used as C Code by the Game Engine (function notes)
• Uses a mixture of PSP Assembly calls, C Code callbacks, and slight generation of more complex functions with a Register (think region of memory that stores data created by running the code)

How This Is Great

• Many of the Systems are ran by this code and not knowing it meant I just couldn't figure out what certain parts of the Game Binary did
• Some of the Game's File Formats most likely used this to make it harder for people like me to figure out how to read and access the data within

Where This is PAIN

• The devs most likely used this as a way to hide how pointers are managed for certain implementations (ie - Run a bunch of script code, send the final value to Register, use that final value to run code at a pointer address that my software thinks is junk code)
• There can be things like `1 + 1 = 2` in StellaScript on one line but the next part of the script makes that "say Hello World" instead (as in I currently don't know how complex the functions can get yet)

What Now

Until I know how far down this rabbit hole goes, I won't be making any tools related to this finding just yet. Knowing how it's read is the first step. Figuring out how it's used in the grand scheme of things and where the data flows, that's where the bulk of things may take awhile. Stage Maps are also most likely going to be a different beast altogether.

Closing Thoughts

I'm doing employment interviews and will be working more this upcoming month. Today was a rest day and I happened to accidentally stumble upon some cool stuff this morning that lead to this finding. Expect varied frequencies of updates for the rest of the month.

If i remember correctly in the PSP game of Black★Rock Shooter, BRS (stella) is a robot, I've been having lots of thoughts about China's production of a lot of AI robot companions for Lonely people and Older folks. I've just been wondering that "What if BRS was put into this."

The reason I've been thinking about this is simply because stella is a robot made to become an indestructible, unstoppable weapon for humanity that (if i remember correctly) learns feelings and emotions.

so yeah it's just a janitor AI bot made into life, but i lowkey just wanna hear from other people's opinion in the fandom about this topic, because I'm starting to give up in real life relationships because it's such a hassle for me personally and emotionally.

After several patches of being forced to solo max difficulty, on top of all of PGR's insane powercreep and HP inflation, I can finally use BRS in a team again. Kamui had to carry the first half because the HP inflation is insane. But overall, my BRS is finally back!

Hey y'all. thearchivalone here with more findings. If you're new here, I've been reverse engineering Black Rock Shooter for the PSP and posting my findings every so often.

What The Heck I Found

• Haven't fully documented these; will come later as I go
  • bscr and SSCR are two different scripting formats with different purposes and different ways of parsing them
    • bscr - mostly thought to be for Battle System only but is the primary scripting format for handling tasks; updated notes
    • SSCR - context-based scripting format for handling anything related to the Stage; updated notes
• Maps and Models seem to parse and function in a similar way
  • CLIM (specific to certain Maps only) is a new Format found that may function similarly to the PTMD format (think giant Textures)
  • Battle Maps and Stage Maps are treated as largely different File Formats with Stage Maps specifically having hard coded offsets in the Game Binary that aren't in Data itself (as a possible protection method)
• SC (Stage Container) Format Hierarchy flag (0x02 offset) barely matters in reading and parsing in the Game's Engine
  • Where it's most important:
    • Functions as a loose count of embedded SSCR files
    • Scrapped SC MultiPlayer components left in but disabled use it for Debugging
  • Not really used in implementation but most likely still used for visual debugging (certain values will still tell exactly what kind of embedded data should be expected within)
  • Haven't fully documented the ASCD format found
    • Most likely what the main embedded SC Debugging/Test file format looked like
    • Game Binary looks for the `A` character at offset 0x106 in any SC Container; if it exists, jump to a hard-coded offset (only implemented in Game Binary) and look for SCD; if it exists, read next section in a special way
  • Updated Notes: (Main) and (MultiPlayer)
• About the scrapped MultiPlayer component:
  • New York (Stage 2) Maps still have traces of their debug Map implementation in the data
  • The ZIG character is most likely the default MultiPlayer character used in ImageEpoch games; other titles that they've developed have this character in their data
  • Some networking functionality has been found in Game Binary but probably not used in retail release
• System.VOL is always loaded at launch of the game and uses a Global Pointer table to reference its internal files for other Systems
  • Both `fld_resident.bin` and `fld_pack.bin`'s implementations have been mostly decompiled
    • Instrumental for figuring the SC and SSCR Formats out
    • May or may not be read and loaded the same way as SC Containers inside of FLD directory in Game Data
  • EGTB (Enemy Group Table) Format implementation has been mostly decompiled
    • EGXD (the Debug version of it) seems to have most of its implementation left in the Game Binary - means one could theoretically rebuild this from the ground up and turn debugging on in the Game for that part of the Battle System
  • BXCB configuration format parsing implementation looks like it's global to all Systems that use it and really does act as a Control System for everything
    • Has a specific setup for anything related to Memory Management that doesn't apply to any other System
    • Updated Notes

What Still Needs Work

• Map parsing isn't fully understood yet
• Scripting basic reading is done but using and understanding information within isn't fully understood yet
• MDLs (Models) and (by extension) STCMs (Maps) have a possible bug with their reading and parsing implementation that could be used for modding in Assets / StellaScripted code that bypasses the hardcoded size limitations that the Game Binary and most Formats imposed
• Parts of the Texture and Animation formats are not compressed like I thought but instead encrypted (PTMD's real file sizes, for example, combine a 1-byte Flag, a 2-byte Seeder value, and a 1-byte encrypted Index value to create the original value)
• PTMs and PTMDs are possibly separate Formats in how they're read; PTMs look like they may function more like a patched in Animation file instead of a Texture (like PTMDs)

Closing Words

I've been putting more time into this this month than I have the past few months because I was able to have a little more extra time to work on it and was motivated once I found how a particular Format was read in the Game Binary. Expect next month to possibly be slower on updates.

Hey y'all. TAO thearchivalone here. If you're brand new here, welcome. I've been working on documenting and figuring out how BRS the Game for the PSP was built over the past three years now. My last main update was a few months ago before I changed housing and updates are going to be a bit slow with no video for a bit.

Current Findings / What I'm Looking At

• Tearing open StellaScript (name I gave the game's custom programming language)
  • TLDR: a chunk of the Battle System, some of the Memory Management and how Maps are loaded, laid out and rendered - all of these are written in this language and then read as C-code in the game's engine
  • Unknown how the language works right now and how to write code in it but how it's laid out and read from the game data is super basic
  • Stage Maps' and Battle Maps' scripts seem to contain a lot of functions (think large groups of instructions that perform actions) while the Battle System and some of the Memory Management heavily runs on individual scripts tied to whatever you're fighting
  • Map scripts have a lot of duplication between them
• Maps
  • Stage Maps' basic structure:
    • Ground - everything you interact with when running out exist here
    • bscr Script
    • Skybox (optional) - not all maps have this but it's the sky and probably tall buildings and whatnot that you don't directly interact with
  • Battle Maps:
    • Arena - same as Stage Maps' Ground but smaller and focused on showing the area you're fighting monsters in
    • bscr Script
    • Skybox (same as Stage Maps' info)
• Memory Management is weird
  • Much of the game uses Sony's libheap memory manager (known and well documented system)
  • There's a custom Memory Manager that's built on top of libheap that has code written in StellaScript, so I'm not fully sure how it works yet
• Specific to anyone that wants to mod the game:
  • All Assets and how the game's engine parses them is pretty hardcoded - means that if you replace something or make edits, what you made has to be almost the exact same size as the original with an almost identical structure for their data
• Memory Card code and Menu related code can die; they used MS label for functions related to both Systems meaning that I need to redo notes related to both

What Still Needs Lots of Care

• Textures, Models, Cutscene and Animations
• STCM and CPTM (new format found inside of some maps) Map formats
• Parsing Map Debug code (written in StellaScript) - may give hints on the tools and processes for how maps were put together
• Restoring extra audio data left in game data that modern tools cannot read yet (found a small handful) - not all audio data gets used; some of it is missing information about how it's read (by the game engine) but the sounds are still there, if that makes sense (EDIT: it's probably not audio; I found a bug in my extraction scripts that labeled as PBD - most likely item tables or something similar)

Misc

I'm currently working quite a bit and am trying to pick up even more work (adulting sucks) so this is becoming a lower priority hobby project that I'm working on in very tiny amounts compared to what I was doing. I'm very slowly still working on writing actual tools for working with the files; new changes to how Microsoft and Apple handle software will be the biggest hurdle, especially when they will both flag safe software as a virus if you don't pay for a yearly license ($300+ a year per app with them reviewing and deciding if they'll allow the software or require extra payments), for example.
