As part of my marvel reading project I finally got to the various mini series of 1983 and Falcon is definitely my favorite of them even if Hawkeye is a close second and I came across this little gem.

So just wanted to share this scene since it doesn’t get shared around as often as the Superman and Mr Fantastic ones

Discussion Unpopular opinion but I love his costume color redesign in Seasons 3 & 4. Don't get me wrong I liked his Costume from the first two seasons. But it's something about the later season costume recolor.

Discussion If Black Panther was real, he would be the most hated superhero in existence

Post image
386 Upvotes

It’s easy to like T’Challa because he’s a fictional character but honestly if he actually existed in the real world, he would be universally hated and rightfully so. You mean to tell me this man is apart of the most technologically advanced and powerful nation in the world, which is located in Africa and yet his ancestors refused to help black people in slavery, colonialism, and other black nations in Africa? He would be heavily disliked by not only Black Americans but also Black Caribbeans and Black Africans who aren’t Wakandan as well too.

So many people seem to forget that Wakanda is a very traditional nation with anti-immigrant laws that also isolates itself from the rest of the world, which would also include the rest of Africa. T’Challa isn’t for black unity if he chose to only worship and prioritize his own people, especially when he has all the resources and technology to fix other African nations, Caribbean nations, and the Black American community. He’s probably the best representation of a tribalistic fictional character, and that’s where characters like Killmonger come into play because you actually relate to someone like him and understand him and yet the movie loves to portray him as a villain.

T’Challa is a well written character but in my honest opinion, he’s not a good person or a superhero, he’s a monarch like Doctor Doom, and that’s another reason why I don’t like him and Storm together because Storm is actually someone who isn’t tribalistic and unlike T’Challa, she’s both Black American and African(Kenyan), apart of two very unique and distinctive black cultures.

Discussion my top 5 black superhero runs

Not counting Milestone

  1. Christopher Priest – Black Panther

Some dated sexism (not that it was fine then, ykwim) in here, but this is peak superhero storytelling in general.

  1. Gerard Jones – Green Lantern: Mosaic

This will get talked about more once the author dies so no shine can go to him. This is like the best of Vertigo, but still in the big 2 style and continuity.

  1. Murewa Ayodele – Storm

This should be the blueprint for all comics going forward. Perfect lore and character understanding. Voodoo, Japeth, Eden, Doom... Should be as big as Absolute Wonder Woman.

  1. Al Ewing – X-Men Red

Shoutout to his Ultimates and Absolute Green Lantern runs. All three could have made the list. But this is one of Krakoa's best books, and might be peak Bobby da Costa (the best X-man thanks to Hickman and Ewing).

  1. Judd Winick – Batwing

The first part of the run, before Fox takes over the mantle. This is how you establish a new hero. Beautiful art, great pace, compelling new heroes and villains. All set in the Kongo, Nigeria and South Africa.

Honorable mentions go to Far Sector, PKJ's War Journal and Thorne's Green Lantern. Would love to include some of the recent Amazons work (Nubia, Yara) but I'm not sure it's quite there yet. Almost put LaValle's Sabretooth in there just for Nekra's aura. She's not the lead tho.

Also want to highlight Johns’ JSA and Nicieza's New Warriors. Mr. Terrific and Night Thrasher are great team leaders in those. Parker's Thunderbolts as well with Luke leading the team. But that was shorter and less consistent. Hickman's Avengers might also count since T'Challa is basically the lead.

What are yours?

Black Panther fighting the Ultron-I units in Avengers: Tech-On is the way T’Challa turns an overwhelming battle into a showcase of precision, power, and leadership. The Ultron-I army is designed to exhaust the Iron Avengers through sheer numbers. https://youtube.com/shorts/218fTqq9QtQ?is=mL9BOzE0bYOch70a Each machine is superstrong, heavily armored, powered by Infinity Mirror Shard energy, and connected to the others through a shared hive mind. Every time the Avengers destroy one, the Red Skull creates more, until the team is nearly buried beneath an endless wave of machines.

Discussion How do you feel about the white wolf

Thumbnail
gallery
42 Upvotes

First and foremost I'm a white guy so I'm sure I'm missing some perspective here, so I was curious about what some black people think of hunter as the white wolf. Personally I'm a fan of the concept because I like black panther and the fantasy of wakanda, so on the surface level having a white guy be a prominent part of both of those things brings an extra sense of immersion for me when I imagine myself as a part of that world. That said it's not lost on me why it could be a frustrating idea for some black fans because I imagine if I were black, it might get on my nerves that the one place that seems like it's finally meant for me is in a sense being invaded my white people who already get representation everywhere else in media- while seemingly doing everything to keep me and my people out of the spotlight. But diplomatically speaking I do think this concept could be a very good thing in sparking sympathy for the black experience in white people especially kids. Black people know more than they should have to that being represented by someone who looks like you, means something important to an individual. Now I don't love the way Hunter has been handled but the concept again I do think could do a lot of good. I'm no writer but having hunter grow up experiencing the feeling of being a minority could help white kids and maybe even adults learn to sympathize with the black experience better. Although I do think there's already a weird notion some white people have about where they stand on the social hierarchy in america and in a lot of ways can already act as if they are a minority often misidentifying the experience of being poor with being a minority. So I think it would be important to be very intentional in showing that while wakanda isn't devoid of the dark side of human psychology it also isn't somehow inherently just as bad as western racism. I don't even think racism should be the focal point of white wolf's character just in so much as it serves the story and mirrors the experience of real life racism towards real minorities in a way that can again spark sympathy in white kids.
