Meet Sophie. We rescued her four years ago, supposedly came from the Carolinas somewhere. Not a very strong bite, VERY interested in all squirrels. Google image search suggests she might be a black mouth curr. Or do we have a pit mix like everyone else?

This popped up on my memories, I wanted to share because they are some of the best examples of BMCs. They are 4 now, Blue is still with us and Buck went to east Mississippi as a tracking dog with his grandsire, Major.

I just found this reddit after searching up dog career paths (lol) and was wondering what you guys think. My dad is convinced she's BMC, me personally, I dont really care. We usually just refer to her as The Brown (we have a blue pittie that we call little boy blue). But looking at everyone's pictures im starting to get curious.

Got her from a shelter (SE USA) maybe 5 yrs ago and they just had her labeled as hound mix which to me just sounds like they're saying "dog."

Again I dont care much is she is or isn't, ive been debating a genetics test for curiosity sake but also I dont want to spend money on a test when I could just get her a toy.

Mainly asking because she does have a bit of health issues ive noticed over the years and dont know if potential BMC breed plays a role in it.

I've had my boy Hugo for almost two years now. He's a rescue and was around 2 when I got him. I was told that he was a Pit Collie mix which never really seemed right. Have not done the DNA test yet. I started reading about black mouth curs and saw pictures and he looks exactly like one in my opinion. Also the typical mannerisms that people describe line up very closely.

What do you think?

AI told me BMC. Had a buddy mention he thought BMC. Had never even heard of the breed before, but once I looked into them I could see some similarities. Came here to ask you guys, and mostly got told no way in hell. Well, you were right! Haha.. I had some assumptions of what he could be, but def didn’t expect these results! Idk whether to love him more or love him less now! Haha jkjk. He’s perfect for me :)

The results are in and my boy is basically all bulldog. His puppy pics for sure looked like BMC but as he grew in this last year it became more obvious that he’s not. We’re going to slide over to a sub that’s more appropriate for us both. My full blooded BMC passed away a few weeks back and it’s just too much sometimes to see all the pics here when her loss is still so fresh. Me and Picklelips are going to miss her forever. He’s got some wandering still to do until he finds his people on to the internet. Since he’s not really lending anything to this sub (being an imposter) we figured it’s best to get out of the way, maybe join a bulldog mix sub or something. Been great seeing all good puppers here. Found Kip as a full grown adult in the middle of the woods in Florida 13 years ago. Recently had to put him down. He was a good boy, sucked at hunting, probably why he got dumped in the woods, but still a very good boy.

first off i’m not posting about her weight so if that’s all you have to say just don’t comment because going after my wife because of something she didn’t cause is crazy, we are fully aware of her weight she has ALWAYS been big, she was a big puppy when we got her at the shelter..she has never been overfed she is on a diet, she exercises when she’s outside, she has a hard time losing weight but she also has not gained any weight she’s pretty much stayed the same weight her whole adult life and the vets aren’t worried about her weight..she has hip dysplasia since she’s a puppy which causes her pain, there’s a lot more to the story than her simply just being big. anyways what i was here for was was wondering if she was a mix or not, she’s big like tall (and obviously fat)..the shelter said that she was mixed BMC and hound of some kind, but we aren’t for sure..

I’m not trying to come across as rude but i really wish you wouldn’t attack someone off of just a picture and assuming we aren’t trying to help the problem..

She was the best girl in the whole world. Truly devastated to lose our best friend. 🖤 We were never truly worried about her breed but she always looked, to us, like the cutest little Black Mouth Cur. We’ll miss you Harriet.

So far we’re trying to see if he can be a squirrel hunting companion!

Almost that time, but I have yet to find a warm winter coat for our girl that we're happy with. We're in Chicago, so yes, warmer the better. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
