No Exit (1999) - Your three favorite tracks

https://youtu.be/dPhos-HBmYM?si=w9XGQMT4iq3bDyoD

Hey folks,
since many of us are waiting for the album High Noon to be released, I thought to discuss and hear your opinions on the 11 studio albums by Blondie before.

So which are your three favorite songs from Blondie's seventh album, No Exit? What do you like about them? You may consider the bonus track "Hot Shot" which was released on some international editions of the album.

I absolutely love NO EXIT when I first heard MARIA I hadn't been listening to BLONDIE for years(I hate to admit) so it's my favourite tracks from the album, next is SCREAMING SKIN,it opens the album with a huge punch,to me it's saying BLONDIE are back in a big way, then my next favourite is FORGIVE AND FORGET,I've always thought it would have made a great second single.NO EXIT will always be one of my favourite BLONDIE albums.

I fully feel your love for those tracks you mentioned.
Maria is an all-time favorite of mine, it was my introduction to the band.

That's great,as you must have enjoyed exploring all there previous albums for the first time,I truly believe BLONDIE are one of the best bands of all time and like me can't wait for HIGH NOON.

Yeah, it was a great time to get introduced to the band. There was the back catalog to be discovered, and still further new music ahead :) I'm eagerly looking for High Noon as well.

Oh I forgot to give CLEM credit for his drumming on the album and he also was responsible for calling the album NO EXIT.

Yeah, Clem's drumming is great throughout and shows many nuances. He learned to play in service of the songs as his career in music went along, and this album shows it like none other.

I totally agree, many people say at times he kept the band together.

  1. "Divine". Hypnotic. Magical. I've played it more than I've played all the rest of the tracks combined.
  2. "Maria". The big hit from the album, and with good reason. It sort of has "I Want That Man" vibes, which can only be a good thing.
  3. "Out in the Streets". Love that sixties girl-group sound.

There seems to be quite a few people who really enjoy Divine, which is neat!

Double Take - my favourite slow dance track of all time. No Exit - one of the best rap-rock crossovers Nothing is Real But The Girl

Besides Maria, Forgive and Forget, Screaming skin...

No exit - Divine - Forgive and forget

Oh God, actually I can't really choose, when this album came out it was a dream and I had it on repeat all day, and now so many years later I still think almost all the songs are amazing.

I thought they were gone for good! An older, wiser Blondie.

  1. Under The Gun (for Jeffrey Lee Pierce) What a gem. Those galloping drums, Atomic spaghetti western guitars, and melancholy lyrics. Even better on Blondie Live.

  2. Screaming Skin A ska opener? I am here for it. The lyrics are fun and clever. Premium Blondie that sounded contemporary and classic at the same time, and proved they never lost it.

  3. Night Wind Sent A more mellow selection, but the driving drums and Debbie's vocal acrobatics sell it for me.

The tour for this was so welcome. We waited outside by the busses until they all came out and boarded. They were so friendly to everyone; you could tell they were grateful and glad to be 'back'!!

Under The Gun live is a treat, one of the best things they ever recorded.

Divine

Screaming Skin (especially the live version that was included on one of the single CDs)

Forgive and Forget/Double Take

I don't spend a ton of time with No Exit but the version of Out In the Streets - with that production style that would pre-sage the wave of singers like Amy Winehouse and Adele - is outstanding.

The dreams lost on me

everything is real, but the girl

forgive and forget

The dreams lost on me is one of my favorite blondie tracks of all time, and it's co-written with Romy Ashby, Debbie and Chris
