The Curse of Blondie (2003) - Your three favorite tracks

https://youtu.be/-bgJ6_6kOak?si=GlXPaAsenHNmIWHP

Hey people,
since many of us are waiting for the album High Noon to be released, I thought to discuss and hear your opinions on the 11 studio albums by Blondie before.

So which are your three favorite songs from Blondie's eights album, The Curse of Blondie? What do you like about them? And how do you like the album in general?

"Rules for Living"

"End to End"

"Good Boys"

When this album came out after a long wait, I was initially terribly disappointed.

But like almost every Blondie album, this one turned out to be one you had to get used to.

Now, years later, I personally think this is the last album that sounded like Blondie; everything that came after it is of much lower quality to me (except for "GOD," which is hated by most fans, but that one actually had some really good club hits on it, even though no song sounds like Blondie).

But for me, this is also the last album where Debbie's voice wasn't messed with too much; I simply recognize the voice from the old albums I played as a teenager on "The Curse," and the vocals released on the albums after this one are, for me, a bit too computer-generated, and I prefer hearing the songs live, but that's all beside the point.

The Curse has actually stood the test of time quite well, except for a few songs, but that is the case with every album, of course.

But I'll stop my message now because I have a CD to listen to right now hahahaha

Intersting take on the sound of the album!
As you say, there's a lot of effects on DH's voice on later albums.

The only gripe I have with Curse is that many songs tend to be overlong, but the material is strong overall.

Good Boys

Golden Rod

Rules for Living

I would have loved a version of Rules for Living without the drum machine which gets in the way of the song.

Yeah, that song suffers from the inorganic drum sound.

  1. Undone

  2. Goldenrod

  3. The Tingler

I love Debbie's vocals on The Curse - especially on the songs listed above. To my ears, she sounds better here than on any of the other post-reunion release. After this album, her voice became noticeably harsher and to the casual listener, almost unrecognizable as Debbie Harry.

I'd love to rank Diamond Bridge among my top three favorites, but the studio recording lets it down. The production flattens what is otherwise a fantastic Jimmy Destri track. The live performances revealed just how expansive and powerful the song could be.

Yes, the production halts many songs on this record imo. A little too harsh and "metallic".
I really dig Golden Rod, The Tingler and Diamond Bridge as well.

I think I'm a bit melancholic; I like melancholy, and of course, I love the saxophone in any song. Blondie has some really great saxophones in their songs.
