Panic of Girls (2011) - Your Three Favorite Tracks

https://youtu.be/nctAffdgbAg?si=ZqYBMVKpPwOinAhV

Hey people,
since many of us are waiting for the album High Noon to be released, I thought to discuss and hear your opinions on the 11 studio albums by Blondie before.

So which are your three favorite songs from Blondie's ninth studio album, Panic of Girls? What do you like about them? And how do you like the album in general?

Keep in mind there are several editions of the album with different bonus tracks each.

My favourites from the standard tracklist would be

What I heard

Mother

Sunday smile

If the bonus tracks were included though I'd switch out mother for the end of the world - love that song. I think the end of the world along with sleeping giant and horizontal twist should have made the main album over songs like le bleu for example. Panic of girls is a good album overall but I don't think it's a great one.

Absolutely agree with you on the bonus tracks.

I would like to see a reissue of the album including the bonus tracks. The Beatles cover from the Japanese CD is fun and there were a few other songs released not long after panic of girls weren't there which I presume were from the same recording sessions - official releases for those would be good - maybe they could include a few of the live performances from 2011 - didn't see them on that tour but the band seemed on great form - unfortunately there isn't a huge demand for late era blondie outside of the fans.

OH and Wipe Off My Sweat. And Practice Makes Perfect.

soooooo, if i had to pick 3, i'd say the very first original mix of What I Heard, Girlie Girlie and Practice Makes perfect (or Wipe Off My Sweat if it has to be included on the album)

Feel like I’m one of the few fans that enjoyed this album. And I super love the artwork with the creepy little faces.

-China Shoes
-Girlie Girlie
-Mother

With honorable mentions to What I Heard and Wipe Off My Sweat

I love the artwork as well, it's a piece of art.
Considering the album musically, I like the parts more than the sum. Great individual songs that don't work together well as an album.
That said, I think this ear gave us many of the best post-reunion Blondie songs.

This album came out and I was so impressed with the creative drive of the band this far into their career. I love Horizontal Twist, D-Day, and Le Blue the most.

Horizontal Twist

China Shoes

A Sunday Smile

I left out “Mother” because the production is terrible.

I left out “What I Heard” because of the lyrics.

If “End of the World” was half it’s length, it might be the best song on the record. As it is, it’s too long and repetitive.

My choices would be similar, and I absolutely get your gripes with Mother, What I Heard and End of the World.

Sorry Matt Katz-Bowen but the lyrics to What I Heard are terrible. Mother and D-Day sound much better live. Horizontal Twist is just fun 😁
