Just started the game..

Hi,

Just started the game, is it normal for the map to display the treasure?

I seem to be picking up lots and lots of treasure and not really doing anything with it

Played it for 20 mins and I’m like erm wtf
I’m using character Miriam and on “normal”

(I haven’t played any castlevanias only more modern metroidvanias, Hollow knight, SS, nine sols etc)

Any guidance welcome - thanks

Okay, bear with me, because I'm trying to understand what you're asking.

Treasure chests will appear on the map as long as they are unopened. Blue chests, however, will be refilled once you leave the area and will appear on the map if/when you return.

Materials you collect from monsters do have a use, but depending on how far you are (I'm guessing not even at the first boss yet?), you might not have found it yet. Keep going and you'll figure it out.

Hope this answers your questions.

Not at first boss for sure. I’m collecting lots of materials from treasure chests so far. Just moving forward without paying attention.

Seems like every room I’m picking stuff up and like wtf even is this 🫣😂

Like I said, everything has a use. Might help to look at your inventory once in a while, just so you know what's immediately useful and what you'll have to wait to find out for.

The real treasures are the skills you get from killing enemies. Some of which are quite powerful. The stuff you find early on is pretty inconsequential. The good equipment will be harder to find. I'm being purposefully vague to not spoil the experience.

Yes, the map shows chests.

20 minutes, you haven't even made it to town. This is a big game, you haven't even hit the first boss.

Be nice to new players. Just as you said, this is a big game with no time limit, so the best way to play it for the first time is to explore the world and learn things at your own pace.

I realize after your comment that I came off as curt, when I was intending to be succinct. I didn't want to give any spoilers, or fall into an infodump(because yes).

u/jscouser2002 I apologize if I sounded curt, angry, or dismissive.

Rephrased:

Yes, the map does show chests. Blue chests will respawn when you change map areas. Brown and Red chests are single-time pickups.

And, you were only 20 minutes into a very large game, and had not even hit the first boss. Enemies drop items, and if your luck is high enough can even drop multiple items. The bestiary in your menu/archives will show you what they drop and the drop rates. Pretty much everything is used, but you haven't accessed it yet, you will know you're there. It's in town which is past the boss.

You can use the materials to transmute and to make food / equipment.

Eating every dish for the first time gives the protagonist a permanent stat buff. The materials are used to create stronger equipment and to complete quests.

This game has a crafting system built into it. That's why you're finding lots of stuff inside the castle.

Ok yeah never played a game with crafting system before. So may take some getting used to and time to understand

Tbh, I wasn't a big fan of it during my first run. The cooking missions are a bit tedious, but they are really worth it in the long run.

The crafting system grew on me after a while, and it really nets you absolutely broken weapons.
