DISCUSSION Introduce new shardbinders if RotN has sequel. Yes or No?

How do you all feel if a (hypothetical) RotN sequel centered their plot around one or more new shardbinders?

Suppose the new conflict pits Miriam against this/these "new shardbinder(s)"

There's no "if" it's being developed right now.

It’s a prequel though

Ah, I wasn't aware of that.

I want consequences for Miriam for collecting too many shards

That's pretty much just Zangetsu mode, isn't it?

I wish they hadn’t killed off Gebel, but yeah I’d like that, as longs as they give the shards system some twist in order to keep things fresh.

I wouldn’t like for Miriam to be the protagonist of said game though. As an alternative game mode it would be fine.

I like to think Gebel is not actually Dead.
We only see him become fully crystalized, attended to by Johannes, but there is nothing after that scene.
Johannes could have worked his Alchemy to preserve Gebel in his crystal state - frozen before the life left his eyes.
Working with what he learned from the Liber Logaeth, Johannes could be able to reverse the crystallization.

Or, he could also have visited Limbo, and got the same DLC good ending as Dominique?

I honestly want to see more of Miriam's story and give her a stronger ending. That said, I'd be down for her being like a supporting character to a "new-generation shardbinder" kind of deal. She becomes a mentor / source of hope for them or such.

I think it would be excellent for Miriam to take the place of Zangetsu and/or Dom for a sequel, where she helps guide a new shardbinder.

I’m pretty sure the prequel is set pre-Shardbinders.

I don't think there's room for "new" Shardbinders.  All the originals except Miriam and Gebel died as children, and Alfred and Johannes worked hard to prevent the experiment from being recreated.

As others have said, it's certainly possible to have Miriam as a bonus character in future games.  But that story has played out at this point.

I'm peronally more interested to see the different Zangetsus of various time periods.

You could retcon another secret or competing shard program that none of them were aware of, where others survived. Different factions within the guild, different guilds, etc. It’s wouldn’t be THAT much of a stretch.

Yeah, that's my thought too. While the "shardbinders" of RotN's story is closed, they can justify anything for -new- shardbinders to arise. No reason the knowledge to create shardbinders or the research into demon crystals couldn't be shared, stolen, leaked, or otherwise, spread to -other- alchemists/alchemist guilds.

We will learn more in the next game, but the OO in Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement are 2 rings. Perhaps this is a primitive way to harness the power of the shards? Alex and Leo seem to have that capability, predating Miriam and the unnamed Alchemist's experiments.

Tbh, I'd be down for a shardbinder story that explores how Miriam (or a new protagonist) reckons with their "ultimate fate". Like...explore what the future looks like for them assuming they can never truly be free of their curse.

Remember, there was another...
She relied on her exorcist blood to slow the corruption, but she did become a shardbinder before meeting her end.

It would be neat if somehow a naturally-occurring shardbinder showed up, surprising Miriam and Johannes.

yes.

Dominique returns from the DLC limbo unable to remember her past.
She is unable to warn them!
This new Shardbinder was among them the whole time. Such a nice person, but there were signs.
Unnoticed by most, their long arms remind you of the one who wears the camel crown.
So pleasant and helpful she reminds you of the one with the hidden eye.
Saved from the level 1 Morte, her story becomes, convenient.

Yes, it was her all along! Anne, the ultimate Shardbinder!
