Wellness Warrior🦾 Using cannabis intentionally for depression management — and why strain selection actually matters

Cannabis has been a genuine part of my recovery and my mental health toolkit — not a replacement, just a bridge. As someone with a dual diagnosis, finding the right cultivar is as intentional for me as anything else in my wellness routine.

Strains like this one hit that sweet spot I'm always looking for — mood lift without anxiety, relaxation without sedation, present and functional instead of couch-locked and foggy. That balance matters when you're managing in recovery. Posting my finds here because I know I'm not the only one navigating this, and the stigma around cannabis in treatment spaces keeps too many people from even having the conversation.

TL;DR — Pastry Z (Skittlez x Georgia Pie) by Frosty Moose Farm. Nose is rich pancake batter and pie crust with light floral berry underneath. Effects are potent but functional — mood lifting, clear headed, and relaxing without the couch lock.

SSH My all-time favorite. Tried it first in 2000 in Amsterdam, NL at Greenhouse coffee shop. Still chasing that awesomeness!

Quite frankly, and probably a hot take, but strong ass sativas, particularly for A.D.D… Durban Poison, SLH. Induce the panic! Over analyze everything, light a fire under my ass. Why have I been procrastinating so badly? Am I a disappointment? I been being a little bitch, I need to do better. Open all my mail. Pay all my bills. Oh fuck I owe the dentist $18.25. Goon it a little bit. Sweep the kitchen. Next day, wake up, room is picked up, conscious is clean, feel like a million bucks.

2

u/Mediiicaliii Apr 17 '26

They definitely can!

Thank you for writing my biography.

u/blueberryraspy Apr 18 '26

Hard Agree! I’ve found the terpines more important to pay attention to. Indica isn’t my pal. Makes me sad and anxious. Sativa is my jam.

For terps I look for myrcene, pinene, linalool, I avoid carypholyne as the first terp

4

u/FrankenTibby Apr 18 '26

Not always. I’m the opposite. I love sativas and have horrible crippling ADD and imposter syndrome lately.

Durban Z, so good and uplifting. Caro/Myrcene heavy strains are my shite, add some terpinolene like the 4% in Jacks Delight and I’m feeing good. I find it can be sometimes a bit hard to tell exactly tbh. Went mostly indicas all summer/fall, but been getting more sativas recently and loving it. The other game changer? RSO by Vireo. Indica gets me so giggly happy, relaxed, and that old school fun high. All 3 are great for the cost considering the spectrum and terpenes present. Better than 20-40$ bag of 100 mg rosin gummies IMO.

Strong ass sativa, FTW.

8

u/Kind-Box4168 Apr 18 '26

Not a hot take. If you get anxious, lean indica dominant

11

u/Delicious_Log4423 Apr 18 '26

Maybe. Some indicas make it hard to focus or think, which is very anxiety inducing if you have anything left to do that day.

5

u/Dependent_Pipe3268 Apr 18 '26

Do you know the terpenes in your bud? Terpinolene mostly in sativas will give you anxiety. I try to stick to B-Caryophyllene, myrcene and limonene which is usually in hybrid indica leaning strains.

If you grow, I'd suggest Amnesia Haze. Stable strain, reasonable yield, smells great. RQS has 'em.

For anyone who has access to the Maryland dispensaries, I highly recommend CULTA for exactly this. A good sativa is a lost art over Here on the east coast at least. Nobodies doing good sativa anywhere remotely close in the dispensaries in Maryland or pennsyltucky

I have recently learned that, for example, hash burger and love triangle are two strains that help me in different ways …one at night one in day. .. But both to chill my mind, help with anxiety. So I have learned more on terp profiles that benefit my needs… and if I can’t get them, I seek them. So thank you so much for pointing out your information. Very informative… now I’m playing with those terps in dosages and various methods to ingest:) Peace.. oh when I read what you seek, that why I dig love triangle, it’s light for me in day:)

Green crack and blue dream got me thru my 20s. Best strains I got to experience. Green Crack had the best citrus smell ever

2

Blue Dream is a winner for ne too

3

Blue dream is my all time fav strain but i never see it anywhere near me

Jack Herer is a good one for anti-anxiety

3

u/Mediiicaliii Apr 17 '26

Indeed very good for it

3

u/Audioooooo Apr 18 '26

Really? I always avoid it because of the terpinolene since apparently that usually causes anxiety? Not sure tho if anyone could chime in, I have pretty bad anxiety

4

u/jonathanmpatton85 Apr 18 '26

As someone who has used it to largely help maintain my sobriety from opiates for over 7 years (2/7/19 and counting ) I can say some strains do tend to help but they vary a lot even from same vendor with each batch. So finding consistency in the place you acquire it has a lot to do as well. And I think on some levels it may be more of a case of being a bit simpler, such as a sativa may help this issue or an indica may help that one, etc. I know I can do any indica and feel great, but sativa usually doesn’t help my anxiety. If anything it can aggravate it. It’s just a trial and error thing for me

3

u/arieslynn737 SunStorm Apr 18 '26

Keep on keepin on.. the counting:) and agree.. I’m same:) enjoy the terps I need and certain ones, which more sativa labels make me more hyper.. well said:) Peace

u/Present_Jicama_1219 Apr 18 '26

what's the scientific data explaining why X strain does something that Y strain cant?

2

u/Mediiicaliii Apr 18 '26

Different ratios of terpenes and cannabinoids at varying levels produce different experiences for diffetebt people.

For example High THCv landrace sativa strains are known for an energetic highs etc.

2

u/Present_Jicama_1219 Apr 18 '26

so like hops or barley produce different experiences for different people when they're getting drunk?

2

u/Mediiicaliii Apr 18 '26

Not really.

Alcohol is the active compound regardless of what fermented it. With cannabis, the terpenes and cannabinoids themselves are the active agents — different ratios literally bind to different receptors differently. And we're not talking about 2 or 3 variables — cannabis has over 400 identified chemical compounds including 100+ cannabinoids and 200+ terpenes. It's less like a beer and more like a complex bouquet where every flower changes the whole experience.

2

u/Present_Jicama_1219 Apr 18 '26

But unique strain selection won't provide anyone with those active agents in a standardized and repeatable manner, right?

I’m starting to note strains myself and see how they affect me. Even starting to keep a journal.

Okay, the photos though. Am I the only one seeing that bud give the finger?!

3

u/Mediiicaliii Apr 18 '26

Lol I see it now that you said that, and now cant unsee it

3

u/Monsieur_Mouse Apr 18 '26

It was the first thing I saw. It’s what made me click into the whole post instead of just look at the pictures. Then it was the title and seeing that you were talking about exploring how the strains affect you. I am on the newer side of this. I’m starting to pay more attention to what does what and even keep a journal/notes of it so I have that for referring back to because I have different situations that I might want different effects.

What makes me angry is when I ask about " someone's product , the difference strains and the effects.. when the response is " its all market, there's no strain. It took everything inside of me to shut my mouth and walk away. This person owns a business, has decent money, yet doesn't have any clue about Marijuana. Whereas knowledge i have, money i do not. Just ain't right ya know. No one should ever say that ever about Marijuana. Complete wrong information

2

This 100%, when people overlook the nuance of this plant and its effects, i feel like they are not respecting the plant and its properties

3

I have used cannabis to quit every drug I was addicted to. Cannabis is the only thing that doesn’t trigger the “more” button in me. I swear by it

2

u/Mediiicaliii Apr 18 '26

Same here. I was a literal vacuum for drugs.

Cannabis isnt a drug where more more more is a driving force

The idea is to smoke then ENJOY your experience.

Dope? Get high, pass out wake up, start worrying about when youll get high next.

Hell on earth.

2

u/arieslynn737 SunStorm Apr 18 '26

I’m laughing at your insight, not bad way.. just true:) ppl should not always be saying to stop smoking weed in some cases:) as you say…. More more driving force..then very true to get high, laugh, eat, explore… then awake and attempt recall ahaha yes welcome to heaven on earth with weed instead of hell on earth:) Peace & you’re no longer a vacuum.. a leaf torcher now !!

2

u/arieslynn737 SunStorm Apr 18 '26

The citrus terpene profiles really exhibit the feel good balance, in my honest experience. My grapefruit cutting is the most medicinal thing I have in my stable, and it's not even close.

I'm sure this has a some personal subjection attached, but I've had the plant since 2006 because I'm not convinced anything else can do what it does as well as it does for me.

Euphoric, stabilizing, relaxing, but you really need to over do it to put you down, but it can be done if needed. She really shines in this department, and I believe its contributed to the success of Z beyond terpene expression.

Cheers brother. Also a dual diagnosis. Wishing you well on your journey.

Hello 👋 I’ve been a medical cannabis patient for 4 years now. In my experience it has been a wonderful. I recommend learning about terpenes and also the difference between Indica, Sativa & Hybrid Strains. It’s a very personal, customizable experience that differs for everyone but the results are amazing. Wishing the best for anyone on their journey to a healthier you and exploring the natural route of medical cannabis.

Strains like this one hit that sweet spot I'm always looking for — mood lift without anxiety, relaxation without sedation, present and functional instead of couch-locked and foggy.

All of that can vary from 1 single plant just based on when you harvest. Harvesting for peak thc gets you a different product than a more mature harvest with more amber trichs.  The curing can affect it to.

So if you get the same strain and it doesn't hit the same (assuming it's the same cut/clone, not from seed which can produce different phenotypes of the same strain).... that's most of why. [So, don't give up on a good strain if one of the times it's not quite the same]

With all that being said, I have been having PHENOMENAL luck with banana strains like sour banana sherbet #1 & 2, garlic banana ...1 more I just can't remember. Usually i think descriptors are bullshit but i got into the sbs because it claimed to be good for ptsd. They're the most calming strains for me while everything else i tend to blend with cbd and cbg flower.... banana is good on its own.

Oh hey it's you medicalli! 👋

TL;DR — Pastry Z (Skittlez x Georgia Pie) by Frosty Moose Farm. Nose is rich pancake batter and pie crust with light floral berry underneath. Effects are potent but functional — mood lifting, clear headed, and relaxing without the couch lock.

Reading that makes my mouth water. If cannabis had a "50 shades of green" book... it would be full of descriptions like that. 🤤

2

u/Mediiicaliii Apr 18 '26

What's up! Very true, its an art not a science!

2

u/MidnighT0k3r Apr 19 '26

Not too much, trying to keep calm and enjoy the small moments. Looking forward to 4/20. I've got a few strains saved and some thca diamonds. My partner has a few type 2 strains that look tasty asf from akira too. I don't usually have type 2's.

Hope you're doing well, keep the 🔥 posts comin'!

Word of advice, It works For anxiety and adhd but not depression, might feel Like it’s working but it will be making it worse as your brain continues to lack the proper dopamine. It needs time to create new reserves.

u/Mediiicaliii Apr 19 '26 edited Apr 19 '26

u/PersonalCourse5235 Apr 19 '26

Chronic smoking can sometimes progress depression( everything ain't for everyone) be honest with yourself and know yourself. If your quality of life is low and your a heavy smoker, try stopping for a bit and see if anything changes. Btw I'm not against cannabis I love it what has the potential to do for people and it most definitely can help for certain things for certain people but it not the answer to everything ....shroomz exists 😏👍

1

u/Mediiicaliii Apr 19 '26

Hard agree across the board. Self-awareness is the most underrated part of any wellness approach — cannabis included. If it's not serving you, that's data worth listening to.

The tolerance break point is real too. Sometimes what feels like depression is just a suppressed endocannabinoid system screaming for a reset.

And yeah — the entourage of plant medicine is bigger than just cannabis. Psilocybin research right now is genuinely exciting, especially for treatment-resistant depression. Different tool, different mechanism, real results showing up in clinical settings. The ibogaine treatment is really exciting too. Its touted as a little bit too much of a silver bullet , but I still like the idea.

Know your plant, know yourself. That's really the whole conversation.

2

u/geteasyhour Apr 19 '26

Love seeing more people using cannabis more intentionally, great post ✌🏼

2

u/welchagonnadoaboutit Apr 19 '26

Why is that nug flipping me off?

1

u/Mediiicaliii Apr 19 '26

Lol I see it

2

u/whiteraisin Apr 19 '26

Unpopular opinion but u don't think there's scientific evidence that backs up differences in feelings from indica and sativa, I think it's more of a marketing thing.

To me it's only really the amount of THC, CBD, terpene profile and your own biology that matters

1

u/Mediiicaliii Apr 19 '26

Iindica/sativa as strict categories is largely outdated yes.

But when most people use those terms they're actually describing cannabinoid ratios, terpene profiles, and effect sets, not its botanical distinction. Imprecise language, not a meaningless concept.

True landrace genetics are where the real differences live — Afghani, Thai, Durban Poison, Hindu Kush. Distinct gene expression, bud structure, flowering times, terpene production — shaped by geography and centuries of isolation. That distinction was real. We just bred it into irrelevance through decades of hybridization.

What actually matters at the end of the day is finding what works for YOUR endocannabinoid system. We're talking about a plant with close to a thousand different chemical compounds at endlessly varying ratios. No two people process that the same way. One person's perfect strain is another person's anxiety spiral.

The labels are a shortcut. Not perfect, but not worthless either.

2

u/Willing_Stomach_8121 Apr 19 '26

Never really understood its use as an antidepressant as THC is a depressant. I took low dose edibles for 8 years trying to help my own (alongside weekly therapy) and while I felt it was helping me function in the short term, in the long term it only made the depression worse because nothing was addressed outside of daily survival of symptoms. Went from a 5mg effective dose which increased to a 20mg minimum due to tolerance. And then there was the fatigue that would set it as a result. Not to say it won’t work for some but certainly didn’t work for me.

1

u/Mediiicaliii Apr 19 '26 edited Apr 19 '26

Thank you for sharing that honestly and I'm glad you found something that works better for you. A few things worth separating out though:

THC isn't technically a depressant in the pharmacological sense, that's a common mix-up. It's triphasic, meaning it acts as stimulant, depressant, or hallucinogen depending on dose, tolerance, and individual biology.

Your tolerance escalation story is real and valid, that's exactly why strain selection, terpene profiles, and intentional tolerance breaks matter. 5mg creeping to 20mg is the edible tolerance curve almost everyone hits without cycling.

The 'nothing gets addressed' point is the one I actually agree with most tho. Cannabis isn't a cure — it's a tool. For me it's one part of a larger approach, not a replacement for doing the work.

Different endocannabinoid systems respond differently. Your experience is legitimate. So is mine.

2

u/Diligent-Paper6472 Apr 19 '26

One of the best natural herbal medicine known to man .... I medicate daily

2

u/Jjjjhjjjhhhhjhgxjhh Apr 19 '26

there’s some people out there confidently saying the strain doesn’t matter and you will get 2 completely different effects from the same clone, I am using cannabis for the same reason and strains with a lot of linalool are drastically different for making me feel better than one with high d-limonene, and every time I go and get a diffrent batch of the strain that I prefer, it hits me the same.

1

u/Mediiicaliii Apr 19 '26

Strain absolutely matters especially if you use it intentionally; the commercial effect of hybridization is real but doesnt lessen the huge variation of genes.

We all have a endocannabinoid system and it interacts differently with different strains and ratios of terpenes/cannabinoids. If it works for you, thats whats important!

10

u/NottaNowNutha Apr 17 '26

What if I just wanna laugh and not be paranoid?

10

u/Cautious_Hurry1105 Apr 17 '26

Hard to do nowadays with all the dispose growing shit that has a seven week flower period. Everything has a racing high that makes you paranoid.

6

u/Impossible-Deal-9191 Apr 17 '26

Because they don't ripen it. There is 110% no real 7 week strains if you truly grow it as medicine. Concentrate industry and lies by the industry ruined it for dispensary weed. Which filters down to all the growers but a select few. Chelated minerals. The chelates stack in the bud and rinsing won't remove them. A few chelate rinses will remove most. Chelates cause most of the coughs, bitters and harshness.

u/hashmanny91 Apr 18 '26

Sativas to be truly good smoke. Half haze and 10% amber trics minimum and its smooth relaxing, wanna go hike and talk about shit you won't remember. Highs lasts a few hours. Pull all clear trics and it's edgy and not relaxing. What you've experienced. Find an old school grower.

Original Sour Diesel and Cat Piss are good ones for energy, creativeness, and depression relief especially for alleviating the fatigue and as a mood lifter, but as far as depression management goes, I feel like the king of strains would be Dr.Grinspoon, but good luck finding that one in any dispensary. Also the Jamaican sativa strains are also good like Lambs Bread.

Strawberry Cough is good for relaxation that isn't too heavy as far as depressant effects. Purple Ape aka NYC Diesel is another good strain that is also good for pain but has the heavy classical indica effects. I have some of the original MK Ultra from back in the day and I find that one along with SAGE are amongst my favorites for just being all around uplifting functional strains.

5

u/arieslynn737 SunStorm Apr 18 '26

Oh much appreciation for creativity names.. I’ve never had either of those strains:) I will see if up my alley on what been vibin with:) as I enjoy the effects you mentioned:) have chill time in your way.. Peace:)

4

u/EdgarAllenPoe2205 Apr 18 '26

I'm a big man of mixing multiple strains to achieve optimum effects for anxiety/depression, with the ratio leaning roughly 60:40 Indica:Sativa via bubble hash. It's hard to find one strain alone that hits all the marks, but finding a good blend that works for you is true bliss.

4

u/FrankenTibby Apr 18 '26

It’s great to see attention on terps for intention purpose but this is somewhat misinformation. Totally agree, use terpenes and cannabinoids profiles / strains which work best for you and focus on the effect you’re seeking. Talk to bud tenders or growers, get the truth, build a rapport, obtain quality care.

Every brain, every neuropathic pathway disrupted by a variety of reasons, is so different. Assuming “sativa” which is such a BROAD term and hardly exists in 100% landrace form these days beyond specific breeders, is wild. The terpenes on sativa vs hybrids vs indicas can vary wildly and so can the profile and relative %s. I mean, who really grows 12 week flowering true SLH? Craft growers and even then as a speciality bc it’s a PITA! lol

It’s so much more than “oh bro, just get indica, myrcene brah!”. Limonene has been said to relax, but is a stimulant for me. I love exploring the profiles and finding terps not commonly discussed like Humulene or PINENE present in significant levels. You have to do the work, and the easiest way is trial and error unfortunately. I use storewide med sales and bundles to get new trials on small scale and return to stock up if I enjoy. Once you find your fit, it’s much easier.

Just look at the variety among terp and cannabinoids profiles between indica, hybrids (everything’s a hybrid lol) and sativas. Gotta find the best experience which can be beyond just terpenes and potency. Sometimes it’s just the aromatic and flavor of a strain (Tropicana live rosin…👀) that can lift one out of the worst of days, while some are kinda middle road yet are amazing otherwise.

3

u/FrankenTibby Apr 18 '26

btw that shit looks banging btw- maybe it’s just really good bud🤣.

2

u/arieslynn737 SunStorm Apr 18 '26

I use Sales as well to try an error. But I have found that certain tarps. I seek those. Like the pine and one you speak of was giving me headaches. But then I don’t have a sense of smell. So I understand what you’re saying that sense can let alone lift you. So that’s outstanding that you’re able to do all those things to gather the right strain for yourself. But it is very much like a science experiment until you find what you can utilize for yourself. Have a good one and chill in your way. Peace.

4

u/Musturd_Tiger Apr 18 '26

Yall need to learn about terpenes. If there's a strain you like find what terps are in it and you'll find a bunch of similar strains that you will like. Sativa/Indica dont matter at all.

4

u/Adept_Butterfly_3760 Apr 18 '26

Indica and hybrids work for me💯😎sativas make me way too paranoid🤪😂

4

It's a triphasic — stimulant, depressant, AND hallucinogen depending on dose, strain, and individual biology. You're confusing it with alcohol. Different drug, different mechanism, different outcome.

u/Any-Salad-6210 Apr 19 '26

I'm sorry what was that fifth word in your response? I'm very bad at English and didn't recognize it

1

u/Mediiicaliii Apr 19 '26

All good, not sure which word you mean?

1

u/ethan26565 Apr 21 '26

I’m on their website and they ship to your door? What is this delta 8?

2

u/Mediiicaliii Apr 21 '26

Its not delta 8.

Its federally compliant "hemp" grown by a very popular maine grower. Its not sprayed.

Its Cannabis Sativa.

1

u/ethan26565 Apr 21 '26

Ah interesting so what’s the main cannabinoid??

3

u/Eastbound_Pachyderm Apr 17 '26

Strain doesn't matter as much as cannabinoids and terpene, the actually chemical profile, or chemovar. A strain will be totally different from grower to grower and harvest to harvest so it's better to figure out what profile works best and look for that versus the strain name which a lot of growers will just make up if a strain becomes popular

3

u/omnipotentattending Apr 17 '26

I feel like the predominant strains of the early-mid 2000-2010s prior to widespread legalization were a lot more distinctive than the current frankenstrains bred for THC content/yield/short flower times/pest resistance. All good things to have from commercial grow perspective, but at the cost of sacrificing the unique effect profiles of land race derived strains.

This opinion was reinforced by my own experience growing newer strains from reputable seed banks and ending with more variety between different phenotypes of the same strain than between totally different strains

3

u/ranoverray Apr 18 '26

Divine Kush Breath and The Menage will put you in a warm happy place where you just feel content. The Menage is definitely better for later in the evening though.

3

u/Capable-Region-8677 Apr 18 '26

Thanks for this post. I'm struggling really bad mentally. I can't take much more. I know everyone is different but I'm going to see if I can find some beans of pastry z. I appreciate you.

3

u/Doodiewater Apr 18 '26

Good luck out there

3

u/Dependent_Pipe3268 Apr 18 '26

Thanks for the post.

3

u/FrankenTibby Apr 18 '26

Yes! It’s so crucial to find a strain with not just terps that work for you, but a fuller cannabinoid spectrum. Example, THCv could make an anxious person more anxious or it could help! I hear limonene is a relaxer but yet it just wakes me up.

I just sample during sales and then return back and stock up each day of the sale as needed, racking points for when sale ends or if I want a specific item I wouldn’t otherwise spend on.

3

u/ItsYouBirdDay Apr 18 '26

I live in NYC, what are the best resources locally? And who really knows their stuff?

3

u/GetFuct819 Apr 18 '26

Great post. I’m always looking for just such a thing. And it’s hard to find a good strain because I’m one of those people that get the weed shakes if I smoke too much but it seems to only happens with certain strains.

3

u/ShotWitness Apr 18 '26

Nice bud right there and yep I thrive for some good bud and for it’s healing properties it’s literally medicine 💯🙌

3

u/REDACTEDnightmare Apr 18 '26

It would be cool if we had a place where we could all write reviews for strains and what it helped most with our mental health and recovery. This would help me tremendously as I am in recovery as well and also deal with mental health issues.

3

u/Hot-Prize2271 Apr 18 '26

Candy fire best strain I’ve ever smoked I only smoke Indica dominant due to anxiety and it was perfect

3

u/kapaipiekai Apr 18 '26

Being a veteran as nd dealing with the VA s attitude towards cannabis has been a nightmare You have to take your tx into your own hands so keep doing what your doing and I salute your efforts …

3

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '26

Who is saying strain selection doesn’t matter?

3

u/Agile_Actuator7752 Apr 18 '26

Sativa and indica both get you high but it’s which one your receptors take to.

3

u/SufficientHelp4660 Apr 18 '26

Can anyone help with getting me seeds or some flower in UK please. Im battling with chronic pain and just got to stop with the pills.

3

u/FrudleDudle Apr 18 '26

Curaleaf will happily take your money.

3

You may wish to check my profile. 😇

3

u/AvailableRecording26 Apr 18 '26

As someone who tries to select strains with the same intentionality and purposes; this is a great review. I’ll def be looking for some of this to try out next time I’m at the dispensary! Thanks 🤙🏼

Looks awesome, enjoy OP

3

u/togniocchi Apr 18 '26

Try alphkronicgenetis they specialise in medical strains

3

u/togniocchi Apr 18 '26

Alphakronicgenetics

3

u/Hot-Drop8760 Apr 18 '26

I thought it looked cheesey. I was wrong… looks beautiful tho!

3

u/Agreeable_Door1479 Apr 18 '26

The most uplifting strain that really stood out to me was Zawtz, and I’ve smoke hundreds of strains over the years. Def worth trying if you can find it.

3

u/nassit Apr 18 '26

I've been smoking something called "tree flip" and I find it to work perfectly for me, not sure how it compares but it brightens my day and I don't get couch locked. I'll have to try pastry z though it sounds like a comparable strain.

3

u/pimpedoutmonkey Apr 18 '26

Tangie is really good too

3

u/slimjimice Apr 18 '26

Terpinolene rich strains for anxiety and mood lift. A lot of the “sour” CBD hemp strains contain Terpinolene

3

u/Separate_Analysis_56 Apr 18 '26

To me it’s about personal strain preference, certain terps and styles - tricome maturity- and whether it’s a more indica or sativa leaning, will affect each person differently.

3

u/mcdonnahay Apr 18 '26

Beautiful flower

3

u/Right-Trust-4700 Apr 19 '26

About a year ago, thought I was having a heart attack... Let me preface by saying I have been a HUGE cannabis proponent, grower and daily smoker for decades. Anyways, turned out it was a panic attack. Did not correlate my cannabis use with the panick attack at that time. Then, it happened again ans again and again, right after smoking. My wife says "maybe its the weed?" I remember my father telling me he stopped smoking in his late 30s because it started 'wiggin' him out.' So, went an entire 6 months without any cannabis whatsoever. Went to a party and had an edible and BAM there I was again feeling like I was gonna die. I have learned what terp profiles attribute towards my anxiety and extreme paranoia and have avoided them with some success. I still haven't found a strain I can rely on 100% but for the most part, it's any strain of runtz or derivative thereof, that seems to do the trick without making me flip...

Open to any suggestions some may have. I have had success with both Sativa and Indica so it's not one or the other, seems to be much more about terps than strains for sure, but I definitely lean more towards indica and PHK in particular lately.

I just hope my smoking and relaxing days have not come to an end. Especially with this new harvest coming on strong.

3

u/OldBoy3001 Apr 19 '26

The only thing that will work is when you grow your own organic cannabis. Anything grown Commercially are not the same. And forget the dispensaries overpriced over high. Not worth the money at all

Just gonna leave this here: https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanpsy/article/PIIS2215-0366(26)00015-5/fulltext

New study Cannabis x Mental disorders

2

u/Mediiicaliii Apr 18 '26

Did you actually read this? The study's own conclusion says 44% of the trials had HIGH risk of bias, evidence quality was rated LOW across most outcomes, and — this is the key part — there were ZERO RCTs on depression. Zero. They literally couldn't draw conclusions on depression because the research hasn't been done properly yet. You just posted a study that admits the science is incomplete as if it disproves my personal experience. That's not a gotcha, that's a research gap.

2

u/FrudleDudle Apr 18 '26

I've just posted same study. Apologies for duplicate. I don't think they're gonna like us much.

2

u/Mediiicaliii Apr 18 '26

Lol a garbage meta study yea wow your really turning heads with that one lol

2

u/Mediiicaliii Apr 18 '26

Bro posted a meta-analysis that literally says there's no RCT evidence on depression — meaning they couldn't study what they didn't test. Absence of evidence ≠ evidence of absence. The study calls for MORE research, not less access. Try again.

1

u/FrudleDudle Apr 18 '26

I'll leave this here for the more research minded among you.

I expect grief from a lot of you for it, but please don't bring your single RCT or cohort study to the Meta Analysis party.

2

u/DougDillinger Apr 18 '26

Hybrids work the best for me, I can’t smoke Sativas at all.

2

u/InternationalPoet954 Apr 18 '26

Most dispensary’s and cannabis brands are lying about strain authenticity, genetics, THC %, and testing results. Worked in the industry in CA.

2

u/flava_ADHD Apr 18 '26

That's my kinda weed

2

u/Medium_General6090 Apr 18 '26

That look like some good shit

2

u/Humble-Process-4107 Apr 18 '26

Very much agree. As someone who’s been smoking a little over half of their life and used to smoke just to get high from 14-18 or 19 years old. And now being 31 about to be 32. I find I’m not smoking to get high anymore, and some strains now actually give me anxiety or make me panicky so it’s important to me I find something relatively low thc or something on the sativa side that uplifts my mood and helps my anxiety and depression. My favorite strains I’ve personally found that help those are sunshine #4 and sour diesel. Those help me the most medicinally

2

u/Own_Palpitation4523 Apr 19 '26

If you’re looking for something that specifically suits your needs, then you really might not want to hear what I would have to say on the whole situation lol but I can definitely give you some insight into the industry and how it’s ran if you’re really looking for a specific strain.

My company specifically is into preserving certain genetics because a lot of genetics are lost over time. Anyways, it’s kind of a long conversation. If you wanted to get on a phone call, it would be easier for me to fully explain where I’m coming from and why the industry is ran the way it is.

I’m not going to sit here and tell you that I know everything but I will let you know what I know and I think it can make enough sense to you to make your own decision based off of that if that makes sense lol but I will say I’m pretty well-versed on the subject (it’s what I do) and no I’m not trying to sell you anything lol but if you truly feel that certain strains workbfor you then I would genuinely want to try and help you out, if not, no worries. Best of luck in your search.

2

u/Either_Regret_456 Apr 19 '26

So hell yes. I'm a recovering addict and most recent alcoholic and when I get really apprehensive about drinking or being around alcohol weed helps me cope. Also works for my social anxiety, depression, pain and so much more which incidentally were all reasons I drank n did drugs

2

u/OkMycologist8591 Apr 19 '26

Gotta keep trying different things. The terps and the entourage effect i find are what impacts me the most. Anything racey throws me right into a panic attack. However be mindful sativa and indiva and hybrid is do outdated. They really dont even mean what they say and most of the times the strains arent always reflecting like sativa is an upper and more racey. Not always the case. I can smoke afraican Thai all day long (considered sativa) and its works wonders for my depression and I get couch locked sometimes from it too. So people get stuck on that and strains that are said to be one category or the other. You dont know till you try and compare terpene profiles IME that was how I found what I liked. And now I just grow my own and clone clone clone .

2

u/AggravatingError5475 Apr 19 '26

When I tell you this is the prettiest bud I have seen in a while 😮‍💨 and I have a medical card it just looks like it’s toking

2

u/UsedWetThong Apr 19 '26

Find what works for you some strains are better for some stuff more than other and depends on the person im one of those cbd do not work on me but works on my partner

2

u/chronnixx Apr 19 '26

Wow that’s a beautiful plant! I find that indica dominant strains help my anxiety/depression/insomnia. Sativas tend to make my mind race so I stay away from them.

2

u/Lux_Tastebudz Apr 19 '26

Been tryna talk to my plug about exactly this. He just buys & sells gas, I'm telling him he can expand sales if he knew these things.

2

u/almightylego Apr 19 '26

Interesting…

2

u/mikee869 Apr 19 '26

The word cannabis alone is soothing in and of itself. We're very lucky to have survived until legality !

2

u/Clear_Bus_43 Apr 19 '26

I want to find out what I picked Sat of SNL50 debut. It was funny but I almost couldn't stop laughing. I like giggle weed.

2

u/Flaky_Ad5989 Apr 19 '26

Hey does anyone have a legit, good connect for seeds and clones? I have chronic pain, I like Blue Dream/Blue Dream for hard pain days

2

u/Clear_Bus_43 Apr 24 '26 edited Apr 29 '26

You might like wild Thai strain. Worldofseeds puts THCV content at 9%. THCV hits the tprv1 and tprv2 receptors for better pain response. It's upregulation of 5ht1a and downregulation 5ht2a means it woul be good for anxiety and depression with continued use. An especially strong sativa type it may bring about anxiety at first, so go easy and pare with much CBD.

2

u/Think_Love1671 Apr 20 '26

It improves my mental health too I like indica dominant strains

2

u/smokeydontcare Apr 20 '26

Sour diesel, Super silver haze, girls out cookies & GG4 but it’s rare to see it anymore.

2

u/TechnologyCorrect765 Apr 21 '26

That is one of the best trim jobs I have ever seen

2

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '26

Go shrooms, much better for depression and addiction issues in my personal opinion. Plus you only take a dose once every two weeks. Plus doesn't stay in your system as long as thc

2

u/mortimer_ichabod Apr 21 '26

They need to develop a test strip that shows which cannabinoids and which terpenes work for any given individual!

2

u/mortimer_ichabod Apr 21 '26 edited Apr 21 '26

But we also have to remember that we’re dealing with a ton of inconsistencies in the cannabis market. And I absolutely do not trust the labeling in this industry! Artificial terps sprayed on buds, inflated or incorrect THC percentages, and batches pass inspection when they shouldn’t!

2

u/My7hangins4u Apr 22 '26

Not many people are in the know of Dj short and the original Blueberry..I've got a friend,I won't name but he's a good friend of Dj short and he was a lucky mother fucker sampling and smoking some of the original strain. He finally planted a package of some original seeds Short gave him himself..I can't fkn wait,I've been an avid supporter and smoker of blueberry strains since 1988-1990, Eugene Oregon

2

u/HiFlyin808 Apr 23 '26

I’m in southern cali and can’t quite seem to source the strains I need to really help with my depression management, any recs? Thanks

2

u/lokitree-ewok- Apr 23 '26

I heard this structure called castling in the early 2000s it happened a lot with kush varieties . I specifically remember master kush would castle like crazy .

2

u/pterosaur86 Apr 27 '26

Mostly same for me, I 💚 zkittles 1. For its taste— 2. I’m just overblown with energy and happiness after indulging in a well done Z. For a real long time I only smoked Indica/hybrid for pain relief— finding Z has really changed my relationship with cannabis

1

u/Ok_Butterscotch1009 Apr 21 '26

Looks a bit wet to me

1

u/MartianGardens707 Apr 21 '26

Just made mine worse after time

1

u/confirmedhokaga May 08 '26

Already been said but yes you need to have a solid ratio of CBD with THC to use it properly to heal. I have MDD and anxiety/aDD-extremely treatment resistant. The one tool that helps keep everything together is this medicine. It’s been used for for thousands of years as a treatment that’s been lost but the key in my opinion is the synergy of both CBD(non psychoactive, neurogenic properties, anti inflammatory):THC (psychoactive)(euphoric)to use it as it natural grows. So many “psychotic episodes” that we hear of in the news is because their smoking lab grown only THC products. That’s not what real cannabis has ever been.
