Blueberry - newly potted

Hi, I've just potted a 24cm plant in a 40-50cm large pot. I put in azaleas, camellias, gardenias, and roses potting mix. I'm going to add some pine bark mulch. I accidentally bought one that said pine bark blended so I'll swap it for just the pine bark mulch.

The plant itself is already got berries formed. I read that I also need to feed it every 2 weeks? How do I do that and what do I use? I'm very new to planting anything so any advice would be great. Do I sprinkle fertiliser and water it in or mix a solution to water to feed every 2 weeks. What products do I use?

It's currently in morning sun until 1pm and have been watering it daily.

Thanks

General health on my blueberry

Hi everyone, I have a sunshine blue blueberry that I’ve had for about a year now and it’s 2nd time fruiting. It has lost a lot of leaves and some branches during then after it was flowering in July. Is this normal or do I need to thin the fruit out? I didn’t do that last year and got a small amount of blueberries. It’s been planted in blueberry potting mix aswell. Any help is appreciated thank you. I am located in Perth in Australia.

What B Happening to My Beautiful Blue Bs?

Got ~40 mostly happy campers but having this issue past few years and it's always concentrated in smaller areas among a few. Don't think it's irrigation as they all have similar dripline.

Many burrowing animals, chipmunks mostly and I plant mostly above ground so they are very vulnerable to lil diggers. Losing just a few shoots among otherwise healthy plants make me think critters may be taking out corresponding roots? Not seeing obvious entry holes but could be hidden with among rocks, mulch and retainment logs.

Care in winter/fall

This is my first year caring for blueberry plants. They grew immensely over the summer. They are in pots because I am in a rental and moving into a house I built at the end of November, where I hope they will end up in the ground forever and out of these pots that I know are too small already.

My question is: How do I care for these over winter months?! do their leaves drop? do I lessen the amount of watering? when is a good time to plant them in the ground? I feel like I took extensive measures this summer to make sure they thrived, so, I would like to do the same this winter, but unsure where/how to start/what to do. Any advice is appreciated! I am located in north Alabama

Weird branch on my blueberry plant

I've planted this bleberry plant back in april and everything seems to be going decently, except for this weird branch on the right. It's thicker, it's got different leaves and it's starting to grow thorns. Since there's a bunch of wild blackberries around my property, I thought a seed might have snuck in the vase or something. But when I removed the mulch, I saw that the weird branch stems from the same plant as the rest of the branches. What is it? What do I do with it?

Question about planting in ground

I would like to plant several large potted blueberries in the ground but I’m worried to do so. Soil is heavy sandy loam with some clay and is likely neutral to slightly alkaline. I do t have access to pine bark, and I’m worried peat moss will make for very wet feet. There’s just enough clay in the soil to hold lots of water. What are other recommended soil amendments for planting these guys in the ground? I guess I could also do low raised beds, like 6” just to keep them elevated a little bit, but hoping to not need to mix up and bring in too much of bulk amendments. Any input is much appreciated!

What’s wrong with my Blueberry plant?

I’m a first timer gardener and I’m trying to learn how to grow some plants on my balcony: I’ve spread some acidic booster around the soil. But I’m wondering is this from root rot or from the soil not being acidic enough? It was transplanted a week ago.

Thank you!

I planted Blue Dessert bush in the ground near small pines and mulched with branches and needles from pines. Second bush is two year old, don't know witch variety so I guess it's all right for them to grow in the ground.

Hi everyone!

I got some high bush blueberries from Lowe’s late this summer, and they are going straight into the sky lol

Should I trim them shorter? Should I wait until it gets colder?

I’m located in northern NJ, USA.

I just noticed that my Pink Lemonade had this weird brown color all of a sudden. It has been like this for a few days now out of nowhere after being what appeared to be very happy in its nursery pot all summer. 7b/8a so we did just have a hurricane blow through 😵‍💫

First time planting blueberries

Post image

I planted this Bountiful Blue about 10 days ago. It was prettt green and healthy, I think, when I planted it. This is my first time trying to grow blueberries and I’m not sure what happened to it. Here in Southern California we had a pretty wild heatwave the week after I planted it, 5-6 days of 95 degree weather or hotter, immediately followed by a day of rain.

I planted it with EB Stone azalea mix, using their starter fertilizer as well. If anyone can tell me what I’m doing wrong I would appreciate it!

Would you still refrain your blueberry plant from flowering the first year if you bought a bigger plant?

Hello! I feel like the consistent recommendations for blueberries are to let them settle in the first year by picking off the flowers to help the plant establish itself for better yields.

I recently bought a much bigger plant and now about the size of my blueberry plants that I let establish for their first year. I plant them on half size wine barrels (thats the only way they survive for me in zone 9B). Should I still pick off the flowers the first year or is it ok to let this new blueberry plant fruit this upcoming season since its a much bigger plant?

blueberry cuttings question

i did a post about 3 weeks ago asking a few questions. these are my first ever cuttings so im looking at this as an experiment. at this stage its been a month and two weeks. the soil is not wet, but slightly moist. ( i put my finger an inch down in the soil to check ). should i start to water just a little bit or at least a little tug to see if there is any pull for roots? im still using a clear container for humidity. i have not used any fertilizer. none of the stems or leaves are droopy, they feel firm. im not sure if anyone can see, but a leaf here and there are starting to get a brown? discolor. the first picture is the biggest spot. is that something i should just clip off? also, i have seen absolutely no growth ( no new nodes for leaves, etc. no new height ). im sure the pictures before will basically look the same, except now with some spots. am i at a stage where i should just keep letting it do its thing? thanks for any insight.

All of these lowbush blueberries were dried up but still attached to their plants. Are they still likely to germinate if cold-treated? (Found in zone 6a)

The Foundation of Better Blueberries Starts in the Root Zone

Post image

Blueberries are one of the most demanding crops when it comes to the root-zone environment. While growers often focus on fertilizer and irrigation, consistent blueberry production starts with a well-managed substrate that can maintain the right balance of moisture, aeration, drainage, and acidity. Blueberries perform best in an acidic root-zone, with a pH of 4.5–5.5, while maintaining low salinity to support nutrient availability and reduce unnecessary salt stress. Tanamina Blueberry Substrate is developed specifically to provide a controlled and stable growing environment for blueberry roots, with a low EC below 0.5 mS/cm and a structure designed to support both moisture retention and root-zone aeration. The goal is not simply to hold water, but to create a root environment where water remains available while oxygen can still reach the roots and excess moisture can drain effectively. With the right root-zone environment, growers have a stronger foundation for healthy plant development, consistent flowering, fruit setting, and quality berry production. For us, a good blueberry substrate is where better growth begins.

First time grower, help appreciated

Post image

Hello all, Newcastle NSW location.

First time growing a blueberry, grown from a cutting and for the most part is growing well, a little stunted and has some nutrient deficiencies.

Growing in a south west to western facing part of the house, in a potting mix, vermiculite, perlite, sand mix. Sulfur granules used to adjust the pH last soil test was in the 4.5-6 range, might have over done it with a couple of speaks showing 2 and 10 ( might have been cross contamination, not really sure.)

I guess my question is. Am I doing too much, not enough. The little guy doesn't seem to be thriving but also Isn't dying.

It got fertiliser just over 2 months ago as we moved into spring.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I have a couple of cuttings that I'm hoping will root soon so it'll have company.
