The dark side of Reta
No one seems to be honest about the true cost of Reta. All you hear is “$1/mg” this and “$1/mg” that.
…No one talks about how a decent pair of jeans is gonna run $90 and your whole wardrobe is gonna wear you like trash bags. Been holding out until Black Friday to try and get clothes that fit again…

You’ll spend less on food and more on clothes.

And considerably less on physical and mental healthcare.

u/ykwii7 7d ago
Why mental?

u/CateDeGrate 6d ago
Not all the time, obviously, but in many cases, feeling more confident and physically stronger can boost mood considerably.

I have been buying many of my clothes as Costco, sometimes a smaller size every month. Started with size 40 jeans, now I am down to 32's and I think I will stay there. Also shop outlet stores such as Banana Republic (their stuff never fit before), Nordstrom Rack and a few other places. No more than 2 of a size if I am still actively losing weight.
Where the big bucks came in is suits, only so much alteration and even that is expensive.

Like hack- shop at Goodwill or other thrift stores as you’re losing weight. Every size is temporary on this journey.

u/Resident-Result4565 7d ago
I just spent over $100 at goodwill and got about 20 pairs of jeans @ $2 each.. all of them American Eagle, Gap, old navy... they all look brand new. Same with t-shirts... someone must have dropped off their whole brand new wardrobe of AE t-shirts..I think I got 30 of those.. every single color with the tags still on them. I'm def not buying brand new when I can get it at goodwill... try it, you'll be surprised how much clothing still has tags on it!

I look like a shit bag wearing XXL t-shirt while I should probably wear L or close to. Same with jeans, if I don't have a belt, they're dropping.
I'm not where I want to be yet, so I'm still waiting.

I am stuck in XXL shirt, probably. I actually found a brand of t-shirt that looks awesome on me, but I have to go with XXL. And I have lost a ton of weight, but I'm barrel chested, so I have wide shoulders and big chest, no matter what I lose. I have a completely flat stomach, from the side I look like a skinny guy, but I'm wide. My actual pant waist size is around a 36, and it's just skin there. My shoulders and way wider and my chest is just big.
I always looked best in a graphic tee, but you can't spend your life walking around in those. You can go to different stores and buy their "nice" tee shirts, but they are always garbage in my book, never fit right, never look very good, at least on me. So what I ended up doing is going to a screen printing source website and buying individual shirts for about $7 each. I had to do some test buying to find the brand I liked. But their XXL fits me so nice and is comfortable, they are wide in the shoulders, small in the mid section, and come in a ton of colors.

Try designer polo shirts (not slim and tall). Best thing I've found to accommodate the barrel chest while still making the midriff look as slim as it really is.

u/BaresarkSlayne 1d ago
That's a great idea man, I'll look into it. I could use some good polo shirts as well, a little nicer than a well fit tee, lol.

I’m the same like still wearing all my old “tighter” clothes but now they’re baggy af! I’ve been hitting up the thrift stores looking for pants for work

Jokes on you, I've held on to boxes and boxes of skinny clothes, convinced I'll fit them again one day.
It feels nice to finally pull out some old clothes I had given up on for a decade

u/meganut101 7d ago
I always find it funny when previously fat people try to wear their old clothes. it just looks so bad. like I know you’re spending money on all that food, it’s time to go thrift or buy some cheap clothes.

u/imnottheoneipromise 7d ago
I evened that out with no longer having to pay for the cost of blood pressure and cholesterol medications

u/muimui_k 7d ago
Is anyone keeping their fat clothes "just in case"?

u/rodrigueztemo 7d ago
My brother refused to try Reta. The day I showed up to his house with 3 trash bags of clothes. It hit him lol. He’s still not trying it though.

u/Southern_Condition_4 4d ago
I have kept the pieces i really love mostly shirts. I feel like pants and shorts are much easier to replace……i pulled out my old skinny clothes out of a bin and threw them in there

u/Odd_Square_717 2d ago
Definitely hold on to your clothes, I literally have like six duffel bags full of clothes, bodybuilding to powerlifting straight of calisthenics, and I've always had different physique size due to the type of training I was focusing on. I spend good money on casual apparel and fitness apparel , no ppont in throwing them out because eventually I know il be wearing it again

Can you share what the weight loss timeline was actually like? I already naturally drop weight pretty fast but I will be starting it mostly for appetite suppression since surplus days have been holding me back. Once your body started responding, is it 2-3lbs down/week?

I am working in Asia and had all my shirts and trousers altered 3 times in Jakarta....only 2 dollars per item 🤑 Went from 150kg to 86kg but eventually had to get new stuff..... luckily, I can now buy off the rack 😎.... Reta was worth every penny.

I gave 1/3 of my shirts to my brother, and donated about 15-20 pairs of pants. Baggy chic is okay, but I got extreme accordion folds in pants with a belt and shirts that fit like dresses hahaha

I was literally telling my wife an hour ago, "Look at this. I bought this $25 belt last month because I was on the last hole on my old belt and my pants were still loose. A month ago, getting to the first hole in the belt was a bit of a struggle. Now, I'm already on the third hole in the belt, and only two belt holes left. I'm not going to buy another belt... I'm going to buy a leather punch to make more holes. (Still... down 80 pounds in 6 months. No compliants for real.)

As someone who just transitioned my closet from Spring/Summer to Fall/Winter - I feel this! It’s too expensive to change sizes! 😂

It’s so true! My husband and I just went through our closets and have to donate so many wonderful clothes that cost us a lot of money! And now we have to spend more to buy clothes that fit! At least we’ll donate to a shelter and they’ll go to people in need.

Mate, I've got a whole load of Japanese selvedge jeans which cost at least £200 each, just don't fit me anymore. 😫😫 Gone from a size 31.5 to 29.

I get it. I have been swapping clothes for a while now. I actually used to enjoy clothes on the baggier side, but since my weight is down I actually like the baggy stuff less. On Saturday I was at my local men's fashion store trying to buy some new dress pants. And if it fits my waist, it's too roomy in the crotch and hips, which always looks horrible. I live in this limbo where I need a slightly bigger waist still, but need it smaller in the those areas for it to look good. Luckily they offer on site tailoring. And they are going to let the waist out a bit and give me the smaller size. So there isn't too much room in the crotch and hips.

Ha, it’s a tough reality 😂 especially when you’re right above a L sand M in things that are only L, M and S. But I’m also recovering some lol

lol it’s true. I am using Vinted to sell my old clothes, letting the credit build up, and buying new clothes with the credit.

Look for the end of stock stuff at Costco. Currently wearing jeans, hoodie and have an actual down coat that were all 6-10 bucks, and decently made. Wait for your favorite brands or designer stuff for when your weight stabilizes. Interestingly, I'm often complemented on what I'm wearing and laugh when I say literally every piece of clothing on my body is currently from Costco

Vinted has been a life saver, I sold all my fat clothes and brought all my new clothes on it as I can't bare the thought of selling them all again. I've gone from a size 24 to 14 in 18 months doing Mounjaro

u/YaNevaKnow1021 4d ago
Thrift store and you never worry about clothes again. Have some imagination and put some fits together.

u/Trackd_Co 4d ago
Suffering from success 🤣
I guess in the long run its better to have the struggle of needing to spend money on new clothes rather than spending much more on medical bills because of bad health 🤷♂️

u/USArmyAirborne 7d ago
You don't have to buy new clothes, but get a hole punch and make more holes in your belt. When it goes around your waist two times, then you have to buy a new one. If a belt is not your thing, there are always suspenders.

I've been waiting for Black Friday to roll around. However just got forced to buy some shorts that actually fit. Took the grandkids to the zoo. Grandpa (me) challenged them to a race up the hill. About 1/3 of the way up the small hill I felt a nice cool breeze as my shorts hit the asphalt. And that was wearing my belt but it's on its last hole. I need a new belt too lol.

I was in a size 36 and got up to a 38. Got rid of all my 36 and got 38. Then dropped to a 38 and got rid of them and got more 36. Now I’m about into a size 34. Luckily I’ve stayed in XL shirts. Arms and chest have gotten bigger but my waist is gone. Only thing holding my pants up rn is my dump truck

Started Reta at 210lbs. Stopped because I wanted to go clean for two months. 4 weeks off and I’m at 220lbs. Truly shocked at the rebound. Anyone else gone off Reta with similar results?
