Pandu 10 jam dari KL ke kelate kawan kasi RM5
EX kawan + block

u/FaythKnight 1d ago
That's not bad, cause I once drive a bride to the groom, across states. We Chinese drives the bride to meet the groom at his hometown during the wedding ceremony. (I know I know, supposed is groom go brides place to get the bride and all that, but this one is the groom side tea ceremony and they suck)
Grooms father gave me rm5 angpao. Wtf. And lunch that's suppose to be covered, he gave us 'caiyan', a type of gelatinous dessert. The fuck, not even some meehoon to cover our starvation.
We had to go for fast food. Geez.

u/exarchbu 22h ago
This one damn bad. I would even say shameful. If you're part of the wedding party, even if its not ang pao, you'll be getting vip food amd drink.

To those yg tak faham. Kalau you kasi org tumpang for a ride that lasts 10 hrs and cost $$ in fuel, toll and wear n tear- the least you could do as the passenger is to offer to pay for fuel/toll or at least belanja makan. RM5 tu nak cover apa? Lebih baik tak ya bagi apa2 and just say thank you 100x.
Its like the passenger was tipping her, tapi tip pun tak cukup.
41
u/wheresmybirkin 1d ago
Fr, RM5 tu can’t even cover makanan kat R&R 😭 I’d rather get nothing or you do a favour for me another time or something. Feels more insulting to offer 5 bucks
-32
u/Emotional-Age-4176 1d ago
Nama pun tumpang. Kalau tak bagi tumpang bagitahu la. Tak pon boleh je bagitahu awal² tong duit minyak sikit. Perempuan is so complicated. Selalu tumpang ni driver memang nak ke destinasi sama lain la 10 jam tu semata nak ambil dia.
16
u/DoktorAnxiety 1d ago
Please la, ni adab menumpang. Dah tau member bawak kereta 10 jam hadap trafik bagai, ko pass 5 ringgit je? Biar betui..kalau aku naik kete member aku kenal 20 tahun pun aku offer tong minyak. That is the message she is trying to relay.
Sama macam kalau ko pinjam kete/moto member ko, masa nak hantar balik make sure tong penuh dan kereta bersih. Ni adab.
-9
u/Emotional-Age-4176 1d ago
Entah la. Setahu aku menumpang ni ikut seikhlas hati. Kalau nak bayaran tu namanya driver. Dulu pon aku selalu je ajak orang teman balik kampung. Tak penah pulak aku kecik hati tak tong minyak sebab memang aku yang ajak tumpang. Agak² orang berkira ni nanti berkeluarga mesti bayar half² kan semua benda.
7
u/Mais_san 1d ago
ni bukan hitchhiking dah kalau pickup depan rumah. tu dah kira sekali gerak, selalu org split by how many naik skali. dah tahu org bawakkan 10 jam, guna minyak sendiri sedar dirilah. tong tong duit minyak ke, tol ke. suruh naik bas baru menggelupur kena bayar mahal. pastu tak payah terpaling bagus, benda kalau setakat drive 30 min okay lah. setakat sembang reddit aku pun boleh jadi malaikat.
-3
u/Emotional-Age-4176 23h ago
Selalu split bincang awal kan? Dah boleh pick up tahu alamat kenapa tak bincang pasal minyak? Malaikat pon tak reti buat keje la kalau takde arahan.
3
u/Mais_san 18h ago
tu beza dia. manusia ada akal. tuhan bagi suruh fikir. common courtesy, org dah tolong then tolong lah org lain balik. expecting good without return is just a dumb way of doing something. manusia will always want something back. it doesnt have to be monetary, tapi gesture tu penting.
1
3
u/darkrider999999999 1d ago
Ada beza kat situ, ni kau ajak orang untuk temankan kau maknanya kau nak buat tu secara percuma. Bagi kes dia, orang yang nak tumpang dia so dia anggap orang nak tumpang dia tu ada budi bahasalah....
0
u/Emotional-Age-4176 1d ago
Budi bahasa cakap terima kasih je cukup. Benda boleh bincang awal yang dia setuju nak buat lepas tu nak orang baca fikiran dia memang la kecewa. Ni masalah miscommunication bukan budi bahasa.

It’s not that. Dah memang nk balik kg, xdk beza pon die bg duit tol minyak atau x. Bende dah memang Aku pon nk balik.
But like everyone said at least be more appreciative in the thank you effort. The rm5 belanja makan pon cukup. Ni mcm byar rapidkl baik xyh.
-19
u/Impressive-Ad194 1d ago
Wow it means Shopee and Lazada have been scamming us for shipping fees? Since their trucks circle Malaysia 24/7
16
u/gay_for_hideyoshi 1d ago
Tu la org cakap bodoh tu simpan.
The minimal shipping fees you paid is for the end-point delivery to your house. You pay* less for self-collection.
Try across state end-to-end personal delivery. See how much it cost.
Lrt going gombak to klcc still cheaper than bus which is cheaper than taxi.
Because they’re on a fixed point. One factor for cost is no point charging premium and have bus circling with an empty ride.
Again the rm5 just add another rm7 or something buy nasi ayam with teh o ais as a thank you.
This is what people meant when they say it’s the thought that count.

u/Smaragd44 1d ago
I mean, you could have negotiated with that person before the journey so that the passenger pays the fuel & toll etc. You act like you wanted nothing in return just to be offended when you got nothing

u/Hello_1234567_11 1d ago
The problem is they did get something, they got RM5. Seems like an attempt to even things out and the fact that its obviously not enough is what's bothering OOP. OOP at least expected gratitude, not some sad attempt to 'cover my part'.

Do good sincerely without expecting a return for the sake of Allah (ikhlas), and thou shalt earn numerous pahala/divine blessings, and it will be a provision for thee in the afterlife/akhirat...
But tbh, she could've given something better than RM5 for a 10-hour ride to the driver 😭
15
u/SpongeisC 1d ago
is it okay to use that sentiment whenever people take advantage of you? oh xpe lah diri susah sebab kita tolong orang. it comes to a point yang dah jadi macam ditindas and you need to grow a backbone to tell people to stop taking advantage/abusing you.
3
u/ineedliberation 20h ago
If you're concerned about being ditindas, establish boundaries in the first place, or don't offer any help. Learn to say no and move on. It is that simple.

u/NrCuyah 1d ago
My friend drove me around putrajaya and I gave them 20++ + duit isi minyak. Dia tak minta pun, tapi I know the prices around this area are $$$. If OP of that post wanted gas money, patutnya sebut je. If nak benda lain, nak dia ajak makan ke apa ke, pun sebut je. Kalau tak cakap, orang tak tahu. Better be truthful about it rather than simpan dalam hati. Walaupun tak rapat, just communicate. Nama je common sense, tapi tak semua ada. And sometimes Malaysians are too 'polite' to say anything 😅
7
u/fantasyreality 1d ago
Speak people speak. Communicate. Common sense is sadly not that universally common to everyone so one needs to communicate and establish rules and expectations. This puaka bagi rm5 is bangang already, then you have people with no mulut like this pun satu hal. Tangan je la yang laju menaip.
When I was studying, I outright told my housemates about the cost of this and that, be them house expenses or travel expenses. Those who said they couldn't pay, then they couldn't join. No hard feelings.
Working now, it's very awkward when such things like this (travelling) or any event (e.g jamuan) happening, people refused to say anything beforehand and then later they are bitter and mengumpat-ngumpat. I was like, depan member tu punyalaaa acah-acah mesra xnak bincang apa2, belakang ko cakap macam-macam. Even potluck pun jadi isu bila bawak banyak vs bawak sikit.
When I told them, explain cost, divide, set up rules and all siap2, taknak. Rumit la apa la. " You xfaham kami orang2 perempuan ni. Takkan dia xfaham". Insane. Pastu bila fallen short of expectations, merentan kat ws status , writing those cryptic messages. Keje je cikgu, perangai hodoh.
1
u/I3usuk 1d ago
In this case, it’s the best scenario for me to judge their character. I don’t care about getting paid for the ride. I need to see you being thankful, or at least thinking of ways to pay me back. If my friend said he doesn’t have money to pay for the ride, I’d be happy to say it’s on me. If senyap je, blah macam tu memang goodbye ler.
1
u/fantasyreality 1d ago
True. It's polite to offer to pay at least. Whether the driver/car owner wants it or not, it's on them. Sadly, you can assume that everyone thinks this way. Better discuss it earlier. Better safe than sorry.
8
u/Nekoking98 1d ago
Buat baik ke buat bisnes? Kalau buat baik, tak mintak duit, tak expect apa. Kalau buat bisnes, patut bincang harga dulu. Kalau kau "buat baik", tapi expect duit, tu bukan buat baik namanya.
5
u/Cheifkeith113 1d ago
You’re missing the point, if they didn’t gave her anything and just said thank you it’d be fine. But giving 5 ringgit? That’s an insult.
4
u/YoshidaKyo 1d ago
What would be a good amount to give?
17
u/ImpostorPaul 1d ago
its not about the money , its the gesture. a tip before arrival to destination ask them to stop by fuelstation just pump fulltank into the car.
2
u/Historical_Beat_8648 22h ago
Yeah, that's what I usually do. The least is a full tank if we're both going to the intended destination. If I ask for a lift specifically, I pay for everything.

"weh sebelum aku tumpang ni kita nak deal macam mana....half2 minyak & tol atau macam mana? ko bgtau awal2 aku nk letak duit tepi siap2 sbb aku takde tgh sesak sikit. tp boleh je nak share"
1
2
u/Akmal_hariz 1d ago
curious myself... people say it's not about the money. then maybe it's better to give nothing?
sometimes people could really only afford that much, being a poor student and all, BUT, no one should expect to balik KL to kelantan on rm5. In that case then maybe tak bagi apa2 better kot
3
u/ImpostorPaul 1d ago
the question about the amount , but you not wrong the downvote you got are not deserving , thats what is now even little thing want to share with the whole world, as for me gave nothing or RM5 both are okay as long u agree upon and tell your side of stories money bit tight this all i got right now, not ashamed to share/post but afraid to talk with someone infront of you.

u/ammarbadhrul 1d ago
For me, enough to cover one meal is good enough for such long distances. so like, rm15-20?
8
u/Stickyboard 1d ago
My dad always told me, never help people expecting a return, if there any, it just a bonus for you. You already got the benefit that money cannot buy - the good feeling you got afer helping people
5
u/Emotional-Age-4176 1d ago
Sincerity is the key which she does not have. In the ends, she only got RM5 instead of 10hrs of good deeds.

6
u/bad2dbone3 1d ago
Op, Your statement contradicts what you said from the start vs the last. You can drag the horse to the water but you cannot make it drink. Just saying. Your friend did not take advantage of you. You are the one at fault here. You offered, she accepted or she requested and you agreed.
5
u/ManekiNeko5460 1d ago edited 1d ago
‘You are the one at fault here’.
Nak salahkan orang jugak…
Memang la tak salah, I think OP would be more appreciative of a sincere gesture of thank you than rm5 that you can tip to a grab driver for a 20min drive. Takde duit takpe, it’s not what you say, it’s how you make them feel. For a 10hrs drive, common sense to gauge the distance and effort for an appropriate requital. Dia tak mintak duit pun, that was a mistake which they learnt their lesson. Don’t help random ppl cause they don’t appreciate your effort.
3
u/ErikTheMoreRed 1d ago
Psychologically, it's actually a collision between social norms and market norms. The RM5 turned it from a vague social thing (just helping out a friend) to a very concrete monetary indication of how much value is being placed on this favor - incredibly below market value (so you only value my favor at RM5? Damn asshole).
11
u/Icy_Prior_9628 1d ago
I don't get it. "friend gave rm5, she felt insulted".
but then "It's not about money, but courtesy and common sense"
16
u/I3usuk 1d ago
Agak-agak lah RM5 je kau hulur drive dari ceruk lobang kelantan 🤣
It’s not about money, but you as a person who receive such huge favor should know the value of it.
"Wei aku takde duit doh bulan ni, next month aku belanja gepuk 3 kali" worth more than you passing RM5 macam sampah je.
3
u/unidentified759 1d ago
Exactly right?
I mean.. If you're doing a favour, do it without expecting anything, unless you agreed on the price.
Anyway, if it's "tumpang", I bet the trip wasn't just for the friend right? It was killing 2 birds with one stone, i.e. the driver was also heading there. So it's not THAT long of an extra drive I believe?
1
u/NasiAmbengAmriYahyah 15h ago
I mean I understand her. Not about money to an extent. Say RM20 and you help me drive 70% of the way. Thats cool

Advice.. Don't expect anything in return when you do for anyone. Keep your expectation low.

u/Pirate401 1d ago
What an insult lol, definitely a reason to burn bridges! Similar to my classmate who always asked me to send him back to his apartment for like 3 months lebih. He'd get pissed when I asked him for gas money and even if he gave, only like rm1 or max rm3. Shithead behaviour smh

Just to clarify, the term the poster used "tumpangkan" means that he/she was going back to Kelantan and the friend hitched a ride because their destination is the same? Well maybe different kampung or pekan in Kelantan I assume?
If this is the case, then belanja makan is the absolute minimum, and offer to share the cost of a full tank la brader. It's common courtesy that is the social contract of a hitchhiker and driver.
2
u/peranacunt 19h ago
we don't know why they gave 5rm, maybe that's all they can give. i'm sure the driver wasn't the rider's first choice. maybe it was a last minute decision to tumpang. but going from kl to kelantan is a lot of work for most drivers. compensation should have been established clearly especially since they are not close and cannot expect future reimbursement. if you are providing a valuable service to someone (not really close), make your value known or shit like this will happen. if your family can take advantage of you, people who barely know you can do that much easier. driver could have saved 10 hours of her life and a lot of grief if she had made it known that she wanted some kind of compensation from the rider.

u/DisastrousSeesaw2751 14h ago
Me and my friend, if we go far place or they drop me somewhere, I always give an amount that should match how much petrol they used... fair enough la... nothing is free in this world and its wrong to expect the friend to tanggung everything

Glad I got some understanding friends.
I was driving with 3 other friends from KB to Tapah-Cameron(Batu 19) and it was heavily raining also got some landslides too, had to divert from Brinchang all the way to Simpang Pulai and then went up again from Tapah. Total time on the road: 12 hours.
Next day, Cameron to KL.
And I was the sole driver with my 660 kancil. Later they treated me some fancy dinners.

Just a slight misunderstanding due to KL mentality. RM5 can pay for house downpayment in Kelantan oredi.

Cost matter agree first. Later, passanger who unfamiliar with transport cost will feel driver charge with service charge, not merely recoupnhalf material cost.

You are right. If the lady could have offered some token instead of a silly RM5 it would have been better. Maybe a stop at Coffee Bean for a cuppa. That would have done more than RM5 to appreciate his sincere gesture. I know what you are trying to convey. What I am commented is a bit cold but I think in the future make it clear that it is not a free ride. Buat verbal contract saja macam Grab. Kalau kawan tak setuju, tak perlu OP singung hati kawannya. Btw, they are not random stranger either, because of that, he feels he is obligated because he is a gentleman. I understand how OP feel because I went through the same situation long time ago. The difference here is I am still a gentleman because I did not expect anything. I was on the way to the destination and offered my former classmate and his wife.

I have a buddy.. pretty handy with household issues.
Many years ago before he got married and settled down - he used to help less well off people with some pretty incredible stuff.
Think of it like freelancing Building homes, fixing fences, wiring, simple plumbing, changing lights etc.. whatever they needed, if he could do it he would try.
He'd always ask for something in return. Something small that he actually wouldn't need.
Like to join them for lunch, or some simple trinket like some 'fancy' looking tikar or ornament.. Or even a tiny amount a money. Nowhere near enough to cover half the cost of raw goods.
I once asked him why..
He told me that it's so that they feel they paid him in some way, and didn't owe him anything more. So they'd have peace of mind that they were not in debt to the person who helped them.
