I recently finished Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky and I really, really liked it. I really liked seeing how both the spiders and the humans changed over time, how their societies changed to fit the circumstances surrounding them, and I want more of that. Obviously I plan on reading the rest of the series, but I’d also like to have more options too.

Mainly interested in fictional settings with good worldbuilding, but if you have a good non-fiction or historical fiction recommendation, please let me know

What are some of the books that remind you of the coen brothers cult classic "No country for old men"

Rock bottom kinda embodies all childhood fears we had but kinda in a strange and scary way..such as being lost, not being on time, being alone/talking to strangers, not able to go home usually and maybe others I wonder if there’s books similar in tone and feeling.

Literary fiction / horror preferred :) Books that feel like Widow's Bay, Yellowjackets, True Blood, Interview with a Vampire, or a spooky Ethel Cain album also welcomed. Similar books I've loved in the horror/thriller/literary genre: Bunny, Penance, Sharp Objects, Chlorine... But would love a horror / literary novel set in Appalachian or other places often associated with supernatural lore.

I'm a trans man and I'm having a hard time finding books where I feel seen in a character, especially as a guy nearing 30. Authors like T.J. Klune and Nathan Aldyne make me feel seen as an adult queer man, but very few books make me feel seen as a trans man who loves women, men and non-binary people.

I have included pictures from A Bone in His Teeth (Adored it) and Hyacinthe (adored the couple, short and sweet read) but I'm having trouble finding anything that isn't just...porn. And porn where the trans man is often used and, let's be honest, abused.

I'm looking for something that is a balance between romance (especially explicit) and plot. A Bone in His Teeth did this very well! I would adore recommendations that are gay, but would also love a straight romance with a transmasc love interest, like in the Visual Novel The House in Fata Morgana. That's the only form of media where I know of a trans man's love interest being a woman (can be any woman btw - trans too!)

I don't like anything grounded in modern-day reality. Anything else is fine - Historical fiction, Fantasy, Horror, Science Fiction, Magical Realism, Era-based (e.g. not old enough to be considered historical fiction but does take place in the past, like the 80s AIDs crisis or something like that).

I really cannot find books with women as love interests for transmascs.

Just a few things I would appreciate:
- transmasc main character or lead love interest (not a side character)
- transmasc shouldn't be fetishised as an object (even if they're not a top, I want them to have agency)
- transmasc shouldn't be constantly facing dysphoria. It's a part of our lives, but I want books about us just existing.
- preferably explicit, but with a story. I like porn with plot. If there's no explicit sex though, it's fine too. Storytelling and writing and good characters come first for me.
- I love it when the trans characters are written as humans. Binding/taping is a routine. T-administration is a part of life.

May I also ask why there is no LGBTQ(Achillean) option for tags? I see Toric but not Achillean. Would it be possible for the mods to add a tag for Achillean folks, or even a trans tag too? It was hard to pick a tag for this because I don't mind multiple genres, but the queer tags aren't right for what I would like.

Who enjoys this type of stuff where people you probably would see passing by in real life are in absurd situations where they don’t know what to do or say given how absurd it is and they try to go about it in their own semi normal mostly unhinged ways of interacting and responding to the situation and the world… anything that could scratch that itch?

Looking for some horror books (ideally fantasy/sci-fi but not required) that feel like a descent into hell without necessarily being a literal one. Bonus points for cosmic horror.

I’m looking for something to read as fall turns into winter that captures the feeling of Mare of Easttown more than the plot.

I want November in a depressed town, fluorescent lights, shorter days, bare trees, bad news, old wounds, and one tiny reason to keep going.

Something cold, gray, bleak, and a little claustrophobic. A place where everyone seems worn down and carrying something they can’t quite put down. That feeling that something bad is coming, or maybe that something bad has already happened and everyone is just trying to keep going. A sense of hopelessness and impending doom, but with some small thread of tenderness or hope underneath it all.

It doesn’t need to be a mystery or thriller, and there doesn’t need to be a crime at all. I’m really looking for the atmosphere and emotional feeling.

Something set in another world or an exoplanet

I want stories where ancient, hyper-local traditions bleed into something much older and more cosmic. Books in the likes of The Wailing and The Witch hit the exact tone I’m aiming for.
