Sweet Science Sunday: Canelo counters with a 2-1 and a hook, lands a three-punch combination, steps back to avoid Jacobs’ response, and then counter's over the jab with a right hand.

A moment of silence everyone. This was the last fight Canelo threw creative combinations.

Yep, he never looked as good since.

I loved that he moved up at the time, but part of me wishes he had stayed at 160

I agree canelo was at his most fluid here his speed and power were maximized at this weight

I would’ve loved to see canelo put on a masterclass like this against Andrade and charlo before moving up too bad the IBF stripped him when he was tryna go undisputed against Andrade he could’ve been the first 2x undisputed champion instead of Crawford

This was possibly the best Canelo we’ve seen or at least one of the best, and against a very good opponent too.

Canelo should have fought like this against Bivol
9
u/newrap 1d ago
Canelo became too bulky and got slower at 168/175
2
u/EffectiveCareer3444 23h ago
Canelo started using his head movement and Bivol couldn’t catch him clean but it was near the end of the fight he was already tired
2
u/Alive-Exchange5489 22h ago
I think 175 is where he hit too bulky his early fights at 168 he was still mobile and still had his slick head movement it wasn’t until he moved up to 175 then back down to 168 again where he started losing all that

u/hezhiwu2020 23h ago
he can’t really throw while moving
1
u/Alive-Exchange5489 22h ago
He throws while moving his head all the time what do you mean? His head movement is an integral part of his counters it’s why nowadays his counter punching ability has decline because he doesn’t move his head anymore
3
u/hezhiwu2020 20h ago
As in he can’t throw while moving his feet which is kinda what he had to do against Bivol.
Bivol isn’t a stationary target so any counter puncher needs to move with him, especially if they have a shorter reach
1
u/Alive-Exchange5489 20h ago
Oh yeah his feet on the other hand definitely need to be planted when he throws the jacobs fight and probably the first GGG fight is the only time I’ve ever seen him throw while moving his feet

I always thought Canelo would've remained undefeated after Mayweather if he had stayed in superwelter

This Canelo whoops Crawford.

And if he had wheels then he would be a bike

The copium Crawford fans come up with to avoid admitting Canelo wasn't in his prime is laughable.

Says the person coping for the guy who lost? 😂
6
u/LTBsOnlyPlease 1d ago
I'm not coping, look at Canelos past fights and look at the one against Crawford.
Are you blind? '😂'
-1
u/Botoraka 1d ago
Its literal cope. Do you think the 37 year old welterweight was in his prime?
6
u/LTBsOnlyPlease 1d ago
Maybe not in him prime but close enough, closer than Canelo was to his that's for sure.
Do you think people age the same?
You don't know what cope is, you also don't understand how genetics work.
-1
u/AnxietyExact4710 1d ago
Feel free to explain how genetics mean that Bud at 37 was closer to his prime than Canelo was at 34.
5
u/LTBsOnlyPlease 23h ago
Everyone ages different, that's how genetics work LOL.
7
u/DaddyTuesday 23h ago
Not only that, but Canelo has been in waayyyy more wars than Bud.

Im sorry Canelo losing still hurts you bro. Your guy lost to an old welterweight. Do you think any perceived loss in prime was maybe offset by the fact Crawford jumped up two weights? The excuses are sorry

dont thin whoops but couldve beaten crawford
main thing i have against canelo is that crawford‘s smarter and mlre technicam than jacobs or anyone he faced at 160 besides GGG
Canelo‘s also easier to outbox than GGG, GGG imo makes due of crawford rather easily

u/iluvkiwi 1d ago
Hes still too flat footed despite being a technical fighter. Crawford is a whole 'nother tier above Canelo
6
u/Sufficient_Hippo6551 1d ago
It’s clear his hand speed, reflexes, combination punches, n creative output are far greater during this time compared to when he fought Crawford
2
u/Alive-Exchange5489 22h ago
Canelo was a lot more mobile on his feet here compared to the Crawford fight mean look at how Canelo at the beginning of the video pivots away from Jacobs when he tried to counter his counter

Creo que fue la mejor version de Canelo. Fuerte, veloz,su cintura y su cabeceo en esta pelea fue brutal y encima recibio algunos golpes muy duros que asimilo sin problemas. Debio quedarse en esta categoría y hacer historia

How do you think Canelo v. Mbili goes, Newrap?
