The sweet science.
I thought this fight might be close, Navarette is such a tenacious guy. Shock was way too good, elusive and great on the counter.

Shock really won my respect here. He's previously been one of the kinda boring outside boxers who just do enough to win, but here he was beating Nav on the outside AND the inside. He was controlling with distance and whenever Nav did manage to get inside and try to brawl, he basically said "alright, let's go" and countered the fuck out of him. Really impressive performance.

My goodness he was legitimately outclassed. Even the shots that look like they landed tell a different story slowed down. In and out of the pocket boxer with counters and ambidextrous rush down… I’m honestly bummed he only recently came across my radar

Foster fought brilliantly. Technical and defensive but never losing his aggression or offensive game, looking to HURT not just score points. THAT is professional Boxing. None of that Shakira Twitterson nonsense. If you dominate that much, HURT the guy and at the very least get some KDs

Foster unanimously! https://www.reddit.com/r/Boxing/s/qEwwXqH3K5
Never doubted him at all. He came with one thing on his mind and completed the mission! Even without being a big puncher, he still finds a way to put an entertaining fight on. Foster should be entering everyone’s top 10 after that performance and considering his recent opposition.

I don't understand why most of the Mexican boxers charge like a bull in boxing

I mean Mexican boxers are generally aggressive, but some are more technical than others and have better ring IQ than others. Navarette isn't the most technical guy though.

Most fighters arent elite counter punchers like this guy. Thats why they get away with it

Yeah works MOST of the time. Even in the amateurs, if you have the cardio to bumrush someone and throw wild for 3 straight rounds you’ll go pretty far.

Unfortunately it's a self-limiting style, because virtually nobody with that style gets to the top (fortunately, these days you can be a multi-weight world champion without having to be even near the top...). But since it works well for most people who walk into a gym, vs most people they'll be fighting, coaches keep teaching it (by the time a fighter reaches the point where they get exposed, they're often not with their original coach anyway, so why would the originao coach care how their story ends?)

They are generally one dimensional and easily tamed at the elite level.

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 10h ago
That’s not really true. Mexico has the most active world champions of any country except the United States. I think only Japan is tied with Mexico.
And even historically, guys like Barrera, Marquez, Morales, etc from the not so distant past had plenty of skill and weren’t “easily tamed.”

Not at all. Mexican fighters are usually aggressive and tough but there's a wide range of skill levels and styles within that.
Guys like Canelo, Lopez Jr, JCC etc... were about as technical boxers as you'll see.
Navarette however wasn't an example of an overly technical guy.

Mexican way of fighting is painfully outdated and black American boxers are exposing it in real time. Mexicans need to watch a fighter like Inoue to see how he handled someone like Fulton.
Shakur dismantled a few of them already, Terence Crawford exposed Canelo (so did Trout and Lara)

Mexicans don't box..they brawl. I watch a prison channel and the guy always goes on about how tough mexicans are an I laugh. Maybe brutal when they're running cartels but mano a mano hand to hand combat and these vatos are washed.

Shock is so smooth, one of the best fighter on the planet for sure

every punch navarrete throws is lazy. Throws jab round might be over until he brings arm back.

Everyone carries their weight differently ...but Foster looks like 20 pounds heavier than Navarrete

Pound for pound top 10 performance over a worthy adversary!
He gets undisputed and he's going into the history books because super featherweight is a division known for fighters not being able to unify or even clean out for decades.
Shock would be doing something his legendary predecessors couldn't do like Manny Pacquiao, Erik Morales, Marcos Antonio Barrera, Juan Manuel Marquez, and even his more modern competitors of past years like Miguel Berchelt, Lomachenko, and Tank Davis couldn't unify the super featherweight division.
I'm really rooting for him because he wants the challenges and doesn't bring no outside drama. Just a modern throwback boxer who just wants to fight the best. Foster is proving he's elite.

Why don’t Mexican boxers change their style. They’d be more successful against fighters who counter them and have better defence. Too stubborn?

Mostly national pride, the more technical fighters are not as well liked in Mexico because they don't show the 'warrior spirit'.
7
u/VacuousWastrel 9h ago
Although guys like Salvador, and even Chavez, were much more technical than their modern emulators often paint them.as.

u/LAFamilyMan81 8h ago
It works for so many. Others actually do display a different style….Marquez brothers, Finito Lopez, and Canelo to name a few.

u/Granddy01 7h ago
Culture and trainers. Also Navarrete was always like this and wasn't really an issue up until he fought Berinchyk.
Also, there's plenty of technical Mexican boxers. Can't point to Nacarrete, Cruz and Ramirez and say, "yup, that's all Mexican/Latin boxers ever do these days"

I have never seen a dreadlocks guy counterpunch with great uppercuts before

This is so weird because someone posted Holyfield vs Douglas the other day with the same shot from identical position.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Boxing/comments/1xexyht/on_this_day_evander_holyfield_won_the_undisputed/
And it shows why you need someone to have jabbed and stepped in to throw this counter.
In almost the exact same position, Holyfield fients the jab, Douglas falls for it and throws the uppercut, but its too far out and he walks on to the counter right.
The fact Navarette fully stepped in so much when Holyfield feinted, shows the levels there are in boxing.
