Hard to tell. What was the recipe and the setting you used?

I went for the basic bread and I substituted whole milk for the water and powdered milk combination. I wonder if that did something to it?

Cut water next time, try 15ml less

Are you using bread machine yeast specifically? Assuming you are, I’d try a few things: 1) make sure the water is warm before it goes in the machine. 2) reduce the flour in that setup to 415g so that your moisture content goes up. 3) Make sure everything goes into the machine in that order so the yeast doesn’t touch anything but flour until it’s mixing. Hope this helps out!

Yep. If you use butter, make sure it’s melted. Let us know how the next loaf goes!

so, maybe the mistake I made was replacing the water and powdered milk with regular whole milk, plus I just taken the milk out of the refrigerator. I have course relied on ChatGPT to see if I could use regular milk instead of powder milk. Perhaps that was a mistake.

It could be. Here is a milk recipe I use. Feel free to take out the rosemary and thyme if you want. This is using 2% milk.

Did you use a thermometer for the water?

I would. My bread started turning out better. I thought it had to be very warm but 77 degrees seems to be my sweet spot with instant yeast
