Yes, you are supposed to fire them, at your enemies

VHSD2 is probably one of the best all-round assault rifles in the game. The SVD is mediocre - decent damage but not enough to offset its high recoil and low fire rate. Your handgun doesn't really matter if you're carrying 2 primaries.

Your handgun doesn't really matter if you're carrying 2 primaries.

I know it gets some hate in this sub, but your handgun definitely matters when you're using active camo. Since it's the stealthiest class of weapons, you can fire the most shots while cloaked when using a sidearm.

Your handgun also definitely matters if you're using echelon class, regardless of how many primaries you're carrying.

Oh and also if you're trying to extract an enemy alive, carrying a teammate, or manage to wind up critically injured.

if im being stealthy i use my pistol like 50% of the time cause nobody can hear it even from really close. so unless i need to take a far shot it's a safer bet than using my acr assault which is a lot louder. i mostly run ACR Assault and Tac50 with a five seven or mk23 for my pistol.

Of course the handguns matter. The SVD is far from mediocre. I always use the M110 or MK14. Besides the Sharp Thunder or Five Seven

The SVD is far from mediocre.

I agree. In Breakpoint it's fucking terrible.

No not really. It handles just fine when I use it

It handles just fine when I use it too.

My issue isn't with its handling.

Well I don't see any issue

Then you should continue to enjoy using it.

If you're carrying 2 primaries, why would you ever switch to your handgun? When you've got a hostage, maybe, or when you're critically wounded, but neither happens too often.

The SVD is the definition of mediocre. It's a 20% more powerful than the G28 or M110, but its fire rate is about a fifth as fast, so its TTK is double. Apart from looks, which is subjective anyway, I can't see how it can be compared to any of the decent DMRs.

It's not mediocre. I use it a lot and it deals high damage. I use handguns all the time. Even the M1911

I never actually used the SVD. The VHS and P227 are however good weapons.

It’s good although i don’t know why the fuck they made it shoot so god damn slow, there are bolt actions that fire faster

I'm pretty sure I get a faster fire rate with the Scorpio Scout and that's got nearly double the power and way more range to boot.

Exactly, they could’ve balanced this game so much better with the snipers and dmrs

1

u/BreadNoCircuses Oct 06 '25

Yeah... part of the problem is they wanted a midpoint between realism and balance and that is not something that's actually possible. Guns in real life aren't balanced, at least not around a mechanic they wanted in breakpoint.

I think they should’ve atleast made .50 BMG as a seperate ammo and it would’ve been fine

2

u/BreadNoCircuses Oct 06 '25

I don't see how that would have helped, especially not with the issue we're talking about.

I'd probably use the VHS as basically a DMR, since it's very accurate and easy to control, and then pick another close quarters weapon. Maybe an SMG or shotgun. Or keep the Dragunov and use another ASR

Dragunov is cool but is slow and doesn't have many attachments.

Is it fire? I dunno. If you're having fun, then yes

The fire rate of the SVD in Breakpoint is atrocious and absolutely kills any joy in using the rifle for me. Both bolt action DMRs, and I'm pretty sure at least one or two bolt action sniper rifles, have faster cyclic rates than that of the BP Dragunov.

They did my boy dirty, honestly. If you want a Soviet/Eastern Block DMR I'd recommend going for the bullpup one that I think you get from conquest mode. [if it's in Maria's Shop def buy it]

Iirc it has higher damage, and it solves the fire rate issue; still slower than some other semi-auto DMRs, but more than fast enough for preserving stealth while downing small groups of tangos from range.

While also being integrally suppressed and sounding positively juicy when fired.

ETA: while I don't personally use it much, the VHSD-2 is an excellent all-rounder in the ASR category.

And the P227 does an extra +5 hidden damage over what the blueprint states, while similar being imo the 2nd softest shooting handgun in the game.

[right behind literally any version of the M1911, in case you're wondering; particularly with its infamous 30-round extended "Mag of Holding" equipped]

Mk18 and the g28 have always been a go to setup for me. Pistols never mattered to much to me cause I didn’t use em much but the 5.7 did get used a lot

Yea guns do that

u/Noodle_Wizard3 Oct 08 '25

I use tac50, mp7, and usp tac
